Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opening reports and using Boarding Groups at Disneyland

Unclear if they've closed boarding groups for Disneyland yet, but it's been a really good day for the ride. 111 thus far this evening, which I think at least matches the 18th in terms of number of boarding groups processed through.

What's interesting to note though is that even with DHS' version opening so awfully late, it more or less caught up with its DL counterpart.

I wonder if the data was compromised by such a late opening at DHS. Is it possible that many gave up and thus DHS was able to get through a lot of BGs simply because there were so few guests in those groups?
It appeared as if the queue backed up quite a bit more than normal as they called groups well above their typical pace. Estimates were that it was about a 2 hour wait once called. After 7 hours of downtime, they needed to make up for lost time and at least give people a chance.

Completely defeats the point of the virtual queue. Can't understand why they would do that, except for the optics. They know people are watching and didn't want to lose the day to DLR.

It was better than calling only 50 groups after yesterday's disaster start. There's a lot of tourists that really only have one day to try and ride.

The same number of people will get to ride either way, it's just a matter of whether they can be free to ride other attractions, get a snack or just people watch under a tree, versus being locked up in a cave for two hours.

Implementing the whole boarding pass system, so people don't have to wait in extended queues, and then just calling them all at once and creating an extended queue is ... Dumb.

Well to be fair, a lot of the higher groups were called with less than 2 hours before park closing, so they were trying to call as many as they could before park close. Really their only option after 7pm was to watch the projection show on the Chinese theater, watch fantasmic, go back to the hotel, or ride ROTR.

Tourists aren't riding it. By the time they get their phones ready, the BGs are gone.
The poor tourists from Oregon are showing up to the park at 9:30 after having breakfast in the hotel with little Billy in his Star Wars t-shirt ready to ride the exciting new ride and being told it has “sold out” hours ago. Sorry, Billy! Maybe in a few years on the next trip!

Maybe I'm just a grumpy bar-steward, but I have little sympathy for people who don't do even cursory research about their destination and how it operates, and then complain when things don't magically happen for little Billy. Back in my day, we exercised a little thing called personal responsibility!

Back in my day when we went on family vacations to amusement parks it didn’t (and shouldn’t) require months of research and planning.

Don’t blame the tourists, blame Disney for creating this ridiculous situation.

DHS catching up makes sense if the reports that DL's version of the ride is only getting half of the RPH numbers of Florida are even remotely true.

Months? It's looking on the Disneyland webpage to find out when the park opens/closes and what is being offered when you go. Disney's instructions on how get RotR access was all of a paragraph long. It's hardly solving the Fibonacci Sequence.

The paragraph doesn’t mention getting to the park with plenty of time to cross security and the turnstiles, using a speed test to ensure you have good signal, then pressing the correct sequence of buttons within half seconds at a perfect 8am.

5th gate? Just build a new resort Bob.

DL had a better day in terms of BG/hr (which presumably corresponds to riders/hour?) within the uptime that they had, but was still significantly behind WDW’s typical day, and especially yesterday, where they called about 100 groups in just 5 hours

Funny, when I saw the TV ad it failed to mention that if I wasn’t in the park before the posted opening time you won’t be able to ride that day. That’s kind of an important tidbit of info. I guess tourists should infer that from “Now Open!”
