Star Wars Launch Bay coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios later this year

I liked the Blue Sky Cellar and the little exhibits they have in the opera house at Disneyland. I wish the Blue Sky Cellar still was still operating as a preview center. Launch Bay is completely unappealing to me and that's the nicest way I can put it.

The Cantina at Star Wars Celebration, (4 day event) was 10 times better than this one that will be around for years.

MiceChat's article this week referencing the Disneyland version mentioned that many at WDI are embarrassed by Launch Bay, so it's not just a select group of fans that dislike it.

Exactly, DW was at the SW Celebration and the Cantina was FAR better executed for a 4 DAY SHOW than this steaming pile of crap which will be around for 3-5 YEARS. Disney was more than capable of creating a better experience DISNEY - CHOSE - NOT - TO. For crying out loud the exhibit in NYC and the full scale X-wing in the Singapore airport both are temporary and are far higher quality attractions than the one which costs $100/day to access.

If those in WDI are embarrased then they must have not gotten the memo that this was supposed to nothing more than a placeholder exhibit to hype the upcoming films...
It will surely be updated once the next film needs to be hyped. Expecting anything more is a fruitless endeavor...

So anyone got video of it yet?

Well that was a lucasfilm thing.... This really isn't.

Alternatively they got the memo that this is all TWDC will authorize and it's gonna be there for years which is why they are embarassed because don't think for a minute that they are not aware of how poorly the launch bay is executed.

You think complaining about Launch Bay makes you a curmudgeon? I'm still complaining that they took Robin Williams and Walter Cronkite out of that space. Beat that :p

I loved that attraction... :bawling:

That's a new one. Criticizing WDI for acknowledging they should have done better.

Can I see a show of hands as to who has actually been to the Launch Bay? Just wondering how many of you are complaining based solely on photos.

This is not on WDI, They did the best they could with the budget allocated this is all on Iger and company as the directive came down from On High in Burbank. However I don't think any of them thinks it was 'career enhancing' to deliver this level of product rightfully thinking that this hurts their future job prospects.

Disney has about as much control over Star Wars/Lucasfilm as they do over Marvel. They keep their distance.

I was there on Tuesday and was disappointed. I expected it to be more immersive than it was. It felt more like a museum mixed with the current version of Innovations West (a Visa meet and greet and some video games). There was a wait time posted outside. This was the wait time to get into the building. Once in, there were wait times posted to meet the characters. I thought it would be helpful to have those wait times posted outside as well to give you an idea about how long it would take overall.

I was there for about 10 minutes (didn't have time to wait an hour to meet Darth Vader) and couldn't get out of there fast enough. I didn't see any wandering Jawas, but there were tons of Cast Members standing around; typical opening day procedure I assume.

I was thinking about going over there tonight, but I think I'll skip it. I was afraid it would be a gift shop, a few exhibits, and anna and elsa 2.0. Maybe I'll make time for it after the fireworks show starts.

It might not hurt to swing by tonight. Over the past few day it's been incredibly slow and empty for large periods of time. Regardless of what people think of the quality, I don't think it will ever be that empty again once the film comes out.

Hmm, that's an incredibly good point.
