Interesting. I can’t even imagine what the crowds would look like Christmas week if it’s the second week open. It may actually make more sense to let it slip to after New Years. It could be the busiest Jan at WDW ever.

I saw someone post (somewhere) that you could buy 10 day tickets starting Dec 21st though. So I’m not sure about that info. Even if you can only select 16th as your start date, that still takes you until Christmas.

I’d check it out, but I can’t access the US ticket site - it automatically defaults to the U.K. site!

I'm pretty sure the ticket availability ends at 10/16/19 (+10 days) because that's the same advance, online sales of rooms limit. We'll see if tomorrow it's extended to 12/17/19.

As of 8am on 10/17/18 I'm still seeing 12/16/19 as the last date available to purchase a ticket. Like yourself and @Rteetz, I'm not going to read into that too much.
