Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

No. Tiny capacity is tiny. Also, as pictured, a free-standing swaying AA weighing as much as a car would probably never be approved for safety issues, especially in California.

8 people per vehicle seemed to be the capacity. Not sure how many they wanted to employ.

If you watch the videos, and take in the schematics, you’d realize pretty quickly the creature wouldn’t actually be swaying. It’s an illusion of movement. More of a simulator.

Also there’s no ways of knowing it would have been free standing. Could have been grounded.

What else is there to do in Pandora? Yet everyone considers that land a success. Lands typically start small and grow. Once RotR opens it will be more fleshed out, and the addition of streetmosphere would help immensely.

Two rides- one of which is very impressive, soaring score, the robot show, etc.

Yup, that's the general consensus for the Disneyland version too, from those of us who have been.

That's a very valid question!

What I wanted from this land is all the things that Disney themselves said publicly for the last four years it was going to have, releasing artwork and details at major fan conventions and on national network TV specials several years ago. I don't think that's too much to ask after Disney themselves spent years telling us it would all happen.

Things like;

-Roaming Droids. I didn't see a single droid zipping around. One robot guy in Ronto's Roasters was turning the bbq spit, and that was so notable because it was one of the only moving props in the entire land. They were even testing these at Disneyland's Tomorrowland several years ago, so we know it was supposed to be a thing.

-Roaming Alien Creatures. Except for the Hondo animatronic in the Falcon queue and Dok Andar (sp?) animatronic behind a fence in a gift shop, I only saw other humans in this land. Chewbacca had the night off when I was there, he was nowhere to be seen. For being on the edge of a distant galaxy, Batuu had nothing but Earthlings who all spoke perfect English with a California accent.

-Bounty Hunters and Interactive Characters. In 2017 at D23 Expo Imagineer Scott Trowbridge said if we didn't earn enough "Galactic Credits" piloting the Falcon a scary bounter hunter would be after us. The Bounty Hunter is the lizard looking guy in the yellow armor. He got cut, never mind the Jawa and small furry alcoholic next to him, much less proprietess Oga herself who is nowhere to be found.

I should also note that I took my iPhoneX with me into the land fully charged, running both the Disneyland App and Play Disney Parks App. I rode the Millennium Falcon three times that evening with varying degrees of success, and not a single CM said a word to me about it. The land had light crowds and there were tons of bored CM's just talking to themselves about scheduling, Katie's party, etc. but not a single CM said anything to me about my Falcon performance or anything Star Wars Land related. And I'm a nice guy who smiles!

-Music, Bands, Musicians, Entertainment, Stunt Shows. None of that exists in the land, except for some tinkling music in the entry tunnels. I listen to KUSC Classical radio constantly, and the Star Wars music is some of modern classical's finest achievements. But apparently it all got cut when Mr. Chapek cut the stunt shows that were obviously planned for the land's massive balconies and upper levels that now sit abandoned.

-Never Mind All The Other Stuff Mr. Chapek Cut. Stuff like the supper club restaurant with live entertainment and swanky alien food. Plus the rumored stuff like drone spaceships hovering overhead that insiders have said were being worked on at one time, before Mr. Chapek's sharp pencil found them hiding in a corner cubicle. But a lot of the official artwork Disney themselves released publicly had these concepts as part of the sales pitch to us customers. They all went missing in the last few years, after Mr. Chapek got settled in to his new job. Why?

Again, this was all stuff released publicly through official Disney channels and talked up widely by senior Disney executives from Burbank and Glendale at public events. Talk about a bait and switch! What happened to all this stuff? So to answer your valid question, that's "what I truly wanted from this land". I can't be the only one, can I?

Fantastic snynopis of a accurate rundown of everything promised yet sorely missing from the much hyped 'Galaxy's ( W) Edge'...... and with pictures of the proof!

Yes, friends, THIS post is a good reality check.
Read it again, and look at the pictures.
Bait and switch, indeed.

Thanks, Bob.
You totally BLEW THIS and you know it.....but won't do a **** thing to correct the matter.
This is a multi-billion dollar media conglomerate....money is not the issue.
Short sightedness and lack of showmanship is what this is all about.
Laziness, and greed as well.

I do sympathize with the Imagineers who were tasked with working on this project.
They did a great job creating a certain type of setting, and it looks terrific visually.
Sadly however, that is all it seems to be with all the entertainment / streetmosphere / interactive element activity cut - just a beautifully designed static set, with no 'outer worldly residents' to bring the story to life.
They wanted and planned for something far bigger in scope, but once again the purse holders spoil the fun with their cost saving maneveurs.

Again.

For those who have been to the cast previews here in Orlando: how have they been been operating the Falcon?

Do they let you ride it as many times as you want (like Disneyland's reservation period)? Or do they limit everyone to one ride (like Pandora's preview period)?

A friend and I are going to a preview next week, and I'm curious about what to expect.

We went today - our "window" was 9a-1p, but there was no way of them enforcing that once inside the land. We could have stayed all day if we wanted to, so maybe it's just to control arrivals?

Regardless, we could ride the Falcon as many times as we wanted to. I never saw Standby get above 35 minutes, and even then, we were constantly moving. Single Rider was open, too, and was very underutilized - my son and I rode a couple more times with absolutely zero wait.

Have fun! The Land is amazing :)

Have we seen pictures of the (currently gated/"walled" up) transition to Toy Story Land. I remember when there was going to be an overpass separating them, so curious to see how this works now.

I'm sorry if this has been posted (I tried searching the thread), but has anyone posted a summary of how things will function opening day? I got a last minute opportunity to go to Florida for Labor Day weekend and may attempt to do this opening day. Specifically:

1. Are they (/what time are they) allowing people to line up at DHS?
2. Will the lightsaber workshop and cantina have sign-ups with return times? (more so asking for the cantina since I'd assume the workshop would have to work that way)
3. Are they doing any sort of time limit for the land/limiting the number of people in the land at all? (or will it be like herding cattle)

I messaged WDWToday on Twitter about a few of these. Answers here.

1. Not sure, but when I asked about the parking lot the response was "Security will be monitoring this space around the clock."
2. Apparently not, which is a grave mistake, IMO. We'll probably have to line up to get reservations just like the early days at DL.
3. I'm assuming a virtual queue, but have no confirmation.

I completely agree. And without the live entertainment, the land’s premise as an economically ravaged but spiritually thriving place is lost on guests. Now it just comes off as depressing.

My criticism here is that the imagineers know Disney has a history of cutting live entertainment, so even if the land debuted with fantastic energy, in a few months or years it’d likely end up with same issues you describe. In my opinion, Imagineering shouldn’t have relied so heavily on operations to sell the premise of the land, especially considering the ample funds they were provided. That may have required going a somewhat different direction, especially aesthetically and acoustically.

Great point! That is a really important part in this discussion, and it's not just exclusive to Star Wars Land.

We know for a fact that WDI had plenty of cool stuff and uniquely interactive entertainment planned for the land, they've been telling us about it all for years before they went suddenly silent a year or so ago.

And Imagineering should know that modestly paid AGVA performers and musicians can be easily cut by the sharp pencil boys, and the quality of talent from the low-paid pool of kids at Cal State Fullerton or CFU who get part-time jobs at Disneyland or WDW can vary wildly. Not to mention the willingness of the average Cal State Fullerton student to keep saying "Bright Suns!" for beer money will almost always fade after the first 30 days of operation.

What I think is funny is how Mr. Chapek glommed onto that concept and used it in all his pre-opening talking points during the Disneyland media events back in May. "It's all about the Cast!" Mr. Chapek said, over and over. Because he knew he had already cut all the extras Imagineering wanted to add.

Imagineering should have been smarter about this. There will always be a Mr. Chapek somewhere who doesn't get it yet controls the purse strings. So design the product better to withstand the inevitable attack from a Mr. Chapek type person. You can't solely rely on a Cal State Fullerton kid yelling Bright Suns! for the next 30 years of operation. That's just bad design.
