Well, this does address the confusion of the "ride transfer" rumor. You're in a pre-show vehicle which really isn't a vehicle, it's a virtual one (though, if the article be correct, it does turn around) that makes you think you're launching into space and then 'captured'. Then you leave this pre-show virtual vehicle and everyone breaks up into the 8-seater LSP RVs at which point, the ride starts and there's no transfer during the ride.

If it be correct. Arrr...

That sounds incredible. If it's accurate, the amount of queue worked into the story is fantastic. I can't wait to see the Kylo animatronic and how they create his lightsaber effects in person.

Also, that's what I've always taken the Resistance Troop Transport to be - a really fancy queue element.

I'm wondering how they will keep people in the proper line between the pre-show ship and the boarding of the actual ride. Is it safe to assume that there will be live (in character/costume?) CMs in the area making sure guests don't get out of line and rush the scenery?

Here are possibly spoilers (breakdown of each of the ride's scenes) for Rise of the Resistance...

@marni1971 Was this scene cut or otherwise not in the ride?

I believe some insiders explained earlier that the “preride” preshow was the likely basis for the erroneous “you exit the ride vehicle and board another” reports. That was my understanding, anyway.

What I’m curious about is just how much of a “ride” that segment will actually be. Originally, I assumed they were true motion simulators (meaning with actual hydrolics) on the turntable, but maybe the movement is more akin to Flight to the Moon, with rumbling and such. I could see it being done the latter way and working well thematically, if the ship is said to be of a type that takes off while remaining horizontal, etc. This would also prevent issues associated with
making everyone sit down and buckle a seatbelt, wheelchair transfers, etc. And it also comports with Martin’s description of this segment being equivalent to the HM stretching room (presumably meaning that we experience it while standing together in a big group). Of course, the success of this segment will depend on how well the effects are done, but our insiders seem optimistic about it...

In the concept art of the hangar you can see stanchions of some sort. They’ll likely be in-theme set elements like that helping keep people in line. I wouldn’t rule out live performers, but that would be much more costly.

Seems like a plausible description and sounds very cool. The one thing I question is the ATAT heads moving. You can see in the pictures that the head is affixed to the framework. They may be saying this because we see the heads move in the preview video, but that might just be embellishment like the live actors we see in the video.

Just spitballing, but it might just be a temporary attachment that would be removed and replaced once the building is closed in.

That sounds pretty amazing.
It does sound pretty amazing, and it sounds like it's going to leave riders off with that laughing thrill that Disney excels in.
That chaotic mess at the end of A Bugs Life.
That feeling you get when ToT ends.
We won't have a Star Wars cast clapping and congratulating us because we "made it back" as Universal would have done.

Even if the ATAT heads don't lower, depending on how long the reveal is - and in conjunction with the movement of the ride vehicle, we might not notice that they don't move - or we might think that they do move.

Yeah, like all those girders they cut off the spires once they got the mesh and concrete work done.

Add an articulating joint, then cut through the girders.

Maybe.
I would honestly expect them to yank off and replace the entire head. The steel they used looks to be way oversized if it was intended to only be a static frame. There is also a lack of any X bracing that I would expect to see in a permanent structural frame.

Again, just spitballing, but if the heads will move I would expect them to either be made out of a much smaller size steel or aluminium to keep the weight down as the real critical structural point is not the head itself, but where the head would connect back into the main body. Every pound you can take off of the head would result in significant savings in the loads that this joint would experience.
