That's confusing. Are you saying they are going to try and open it for partial day operation before it officially opens? Seems like a nightmare to try and keep a new land open partial days before it officially opens on.... Thanksgiving weekend, November 29th/30th?

Partial day as in extra ticket, previews, etc, yes.

It might be completely open by then. But 'worst case' is supposed to be Dec 6.

You have to remember that SW:GE will need a lot more test and adjust than the other lands they've done because of the immersion and other things around the land.

Of course, if TDO cuts a ton of the immersion, then it isn't needed.

So there's a Slash Film article stemming off a Jim Hill podcast about the Millennium Falcon ride. I believe the capacity numbers to be wildly incorrect. Jim references a 3.5 minute "ride cycle time" with 7 capsules operating at once.

My understanding is 4 "centrifuges" each with 7 capsules that can seat 6 guests each. I suspect the 3.5 minute "ride cycle time" is the ride time, not the cycle time.

Dead or retired.

My previous guestimate was based on a cycle time of five minutes per capsule including load/unload, but not accounting for wheelchair loading. That gave me 2000 per hour as a theoretical and more likely in the 1500 range on a good day. I had more refined estimates, but I would have to look them up.

Its what I always comment on anything JH related. Here or elsewhere.

He's not worth any more time than that.
OK, you are right it isn't worth anymore time as long as you want to say random things and not be understood. Far be it for me be concerned. Curious maybe, but, not really concerned! In the big picture it isn't really worth much of anything, but, it is a discussion board, not a guess the meaning of a comment board.

on Episode 176 of Disney Dish, Jim Hill and Len Testa reveal that initial tests of the Millennium Falcon attraction have resulted in more frustration than joy from test audiences who cite the high-stakes of the cooperation-based attraction which will allegedly ends if guests "crash" the ship.

Well, that's one way to increase re-rideability.

So, if one crashes the ship half-way through your pod's rotation, are you supposed to sit there for three minutes until you get to the exit door?

A question like that demonstrates the ridiculousness of the claim that it's possible to crash the ship and end your 'journey' early. If crashing your ship early is a possibility, then that's a mistake that these pre-tests and QA and beta testing is supposed to deal with.

It's basically a computer race and shooter game. In beta testing. It will have issues.

Anyone who thinks that at this point they have a finished product doesn't know anything about computer game development. (I've been a long time beta tester for a MMORPG, now defuct, though).

Right, what I took from their reporting is that the product presented during the initial test-plays still requires calibration to skew the experience towards the "fun" side as opposed to the "challenging" side.

Per the podcast, the primary frustrations are stemming from the [lack of] skills of other passengers in cooperation-based activities, rather than the attraction's software/programming/etc. They predict that these issues would become even more problematic if riders don't speak the same language.

All part of the fun of developing the attraction.

Would someone knowledgeable be kind enough to label what everything is on this map? I've been staring at it trying to figure out the locations of the Cantina, merchants alley, ride queues, entrances etc... Everything is coming along so nicely!

Since the vehicles are on a constantly rotating turntable I can't see how one person's ride could be shorter then another. I do feel that having a truly cooperative ride would be a problem, especially since there are six people per car so you would likely be riding with strangers.

The way this is setup would make for some real awkwardness if you can crash the ship early. An attraction like this needs to have a fixed ride time and having this effectively be a video game rendered in real time makes this increasingly difficult. I wonder if the solution would be to have the simulation start over again if you crash?
