I'll take two hamburgers and two cokes, please.

So, you want two ghoranburgers and two skopas.

No, I want two hamburgers and two cokes.

Yes, that's what we have ghoranburgers and skopas.

Listen, my child only eats and drinks hamburgers and cokes, and he's about to have a meltdown if he doesn't get it.

Sure, thing! We'll make sure he gets his ghoranburger and skopa! <wink, wink>.

Ugh, is that what you're calling hamburgers and coke?

<nodding> Yes, that's what we call them: ghoranburger and skopa.

Fine. Do you take Visa?

Yes, we take Ah'sivakan.

I want to talk to a manager.
No Coke, Pepsi...

They will. Alcatraz has three main pre shows plus the queue - a queue much like FoP in execution. There’s only two floors mind. Bird has two but again also a very elaborate, themed queue environment.

I’m not a fan of all these pre shows. I think they are fine the first couple of times but eventually it becomes like Clare Huxtable at Dinosaur. “Ok, seen it, stand by the door and get me out of here.” I would be fine with them if the FastPass experience would bypass them but like FoP at Pandora, you gotta sit through all of ‘em!

The FOP pre-show is a bit painful, but having had to stand in the room for a long time and watch it twice didn't help. I've dreaded it since. LOL. (NOT a reflection on the ride; I love Flights of Passage). I agree they're relying a bit on numerous pre-show rooms that now stand in as "ride scenes". I get they sort of break up the waiting in a 2 or 3 hour line, and set up the ride (sometimes you don't need THAT much set up ...) but still ...

Imagine a pre-show room in the Haunted Mansion that told you everything about the ride and what to do when you load the doombuggy. I mean .. it's a bit tedious. Safety video is one thing and different.

If the pre-shows are well-done and really part of the show (e.g., the Haunted Mansion stretching room, the DisneySea Tower of Terror “disappearing statue” room), they can add a lot to the experience.

I really like the idea of positioning (high-quality, enjoyable, detailed) pre-shows as part of the “attraction show scenes” (provided, of course, that they’re not used as excuses to shorten ride-time or ride-quality). Done properly, that can not only lengthen the “attraction time,” but also greatly increase the sense of immersion, believability, and emotional stakes. I dare say they could be groundbreaking, with Alcatraz potentially offering our first look at this new pre-show - ride integration.

The purpose of the pre-shows is not just to entertain, it is an intricate part of the timing of the ride and the ability to clear the area so others (yourself included) can experience the ride. Can you image the cluster if everyone were able to just bypass the pre-show and go directly to the ride. It breaks up the wait, explains what is about to happen (or at least hints to it) and manages the flow to the ride itself. They cannot design the ride just for those that are going to go over and over and over again. So, unless you want the whole queue to become unthemed, then you will have to put up with it.

I like pre-shows that break up waiting in line.

FoP's standby line is long and I think they broke up the sections of the queue nicely (Outside, caves, glow room, lab, holding, pre-show 1, pre-show 2). This way you are always moving to a new section every 15-20 minutes.
The FoP decontamination scene is fun if all goes right. It is when the show pauses for riders loading issues. I hate the one where he just leaves. "Um, I'll be right back" ... ... ... ... ... ... -Thanks for leaving us trapped in the room all alone!

From what I have heard and from what has been posted here, I think everyone will be fine with the Alcatraz "pre-show". I don't know much about the Big Bird pre-show, but I'll bet it will be well done.

For me, while FoP's pre show execution could have been better, the information it provides greatly enhances the theme, enjoyment and immersiveness of the attraction.

Not a fan of the disheveled "um...uhh...." guy in the pre-show video, but the whole thing is darn exciting. I really enjoyed the build up. It was almost a little intimidating on my first go-round. It definitely added to my love of the attraction.

The best part of the 1st pre show room is when they ask you to move around. I liked being in the back and doing silly dances (like raise the roof or YMCA), so the people in the front (who happened to be first time riders) who don't really know what to expect, get a laugh out of it. Plus it's just fun overall. The long pause delay part though is a bit awkward.

My favorite part of the preshow is telling the people who entered first and facing the exit door to turn around. :)

Westcoaster.net has an excellent update of the construction over in Anaheim that is well worth a look. They have the best zoom lens of anyone tracking these projects.

Steel is going up over the Battle Escape pre-show buildings and I think we can take this as confirmation that the area behind those buildings will in fact be more outdoor queue space. If you look at this photo:

you can see that there are "toothpicks" on the backside. These indicate to me that this will in fact be a double-sided rockwork structure as it has become clear that they are only sculpting the areas visible to in-park guests.

Here's the area on the model:

There’s still a very visible, finished blank show building wall adjacent to this structure. At the moment I’m not convinced this is going to be anything more than a backstage area.
