"Well, Disney's Legal department just finished paying off Coca-Cola to the tune of tens of millions of dollars because Coke products won't be sold in Star Wars Land, since Coke isn't available in that Galaxy, Far, Far Away. (I always assumed it was RC Cola with maybe some Faygo and Snapple thrown in ... whiny brat Kylo loves his Snapple!) I get and appreciate that Disney wants to copy UNI and the WWoHP. But that worked because all of those drinks and treats and even candies were things that J.K. Rowling had created. They existed.

First Order burgers with black buns are just plain lame (and they sound and look disgusting, so I will not go near that stuff). This is just dumb. Because there isn't a galaxy of SW treats that people know, love and associate with the films. I am guessing Iger has called in the cast of The Chew to create items. Of course, this also sets a bad precedent because it makes people think that the SWE is different or more special than plain old DL.

Anyway, now Legal is working on Visa because WDI doesn't want the Visa logo visible on any SWE cash register or restaurant bill folder, despite Disney's sponsorship contract that says Visa gets that branding privilege. WDI is really taking the story and theme that seriously, no matter the cost. Some might say they are taking things way too seriously."

I think the question is the difference between brand presentation and availability. At Potterland you can ask if cola is available and purchase it--there's just no name or logo on the signage. I wonder if there will be an ATM in SWL or perhaps in an alcove by the restrooms (like the ATM in the stockade in DL Frontierland entrance). And the Cantina can always list a beverage specialty in the table menu featuring "an exotic combination of extract of the cola berry and coca leaf imported from across the galaxy" or "combination of yellow and green citrus flavors". It will be interesting to see.

I pointedly asked the question of an Imagineer at the D23 Expo and she pointedly acknowledged existing contracts still have to be honored.

I’m fine with these being screen rides. Within probably 3 years from now, we will be moving onto new Star Wars stories, Kylo, Rey, etc will Be old hat and there’s will be new characters and stories. They can easily update the rides to remain relevant.

The concept art from the falcon ride where there’s a huge Kracken type creature matches the same creature that’s shown in the trailer for Solo, a Star Wars Story.

What makes the Stormtroopers in the hanger bay so easy is that most of them are standing at attention. So if only a few of the "extras" move or fidget, it just adds realism. Meanwhile you have a couple of "hero" troopers giving orders motioning guests through the queue from the shuttle to the load area for the ride (if our assumptions are correct about the whole shuttle transition scenario). Plus you have the view out into space through the giant portal with ships and activity. I think it will be quite the set piece.

Technically both will move and both will have screens. Alcatraz will be movement through physical sets. I’d liken the experience to Transformers. In more ways than one.
So more Transformers than Spiderman? I only have ridden Transformers a few times, but I don't remember a lot of physical sets, just moving from one screen to another.

Transformers has physical sets in between each screen. Vehicles "park" in front of screens before moving on. It also has two pairs of elevators (pairs to increase capacity).

Alcatraz RVs will differ from a) not being on a physical track and b) not roaming the building in isolation.

Hey there,

I thought there might be some, but you are moving fast, turning in all directions, and they are just transitions so I think they are less noticeable. It is a fun but disorienting ride for me. I like the balance in Spidey much better, I hope Alcatraz is more like that.
Except with years of new tech.

So the RV will drive in packs like Disney's other LPS's? Makes sense. Can you say if they might be slightly different experiences per RV?

Thanks! I realize that there won't be completely different RV experiences, but a place where 2 RV's go one way and 2 RV's go the other. Nothing major, but like the ending of RSR, before the race. Or they could do it by having 2 different "front-of-screen" experiences depending on what side your car goes to.

I keep getting more and more excited about this ride!

I'm a little nervous about the use of screens on Alcatraz compared to Transformers. Transformers has the Scoop vehicle situated so that your eyes aren't drawn to the long edges of the screen. Alcatraz being LPS-based, the closest simulator dark ride we have to it is Ratatouille. I'm hoping that they've learned from the shortcomings of Rat, which suffers compared to Transformers because (a) the vehicles, as Martin said about Alcatraz, do not roam in isolation, so the illusion of forward motion on a screen is ruined because you can see the other stationary "rats" next to you, (b) the vehicles are closer to the ground so you can see the edges of the screen, and (c) the lack of enhanced motion on the RV (which itself isn't a dealbreaker I guess).

I am concerned about @marni1971 ‘s comparison of Alcatraz and Transformers as well, mainly because IMHO Transformers puts WAY too much emphasis on screens, to the point that it seems as though the screen segments are the only true show scenes and the physical sets merely serve as transitions between those screen-based show scenes. This concern is probably unfounded, though, because it’s hard to imagine such a huge show building and high budget for an attraction with that screen-to-set ratio. I suspect it will be more like Shanghai’s PotC in that regard, which has ample physical sets and very well done integration of the screens.

I am not really concerned with it repeating the problems that Ratatouille has, as I think that’s unlikely for the following reason: Ratatouille tries to make it appear via screens as though you are moving forward through physical space, and thus that you are moving to a different physical location, even though the floor, the ceiling and walls, and the other vehicles make it clear that you are stationary. But Disney has never attempted to do this with a 2-D LPS ride, which makes sense, because the problem I described would be even more obvious in 2-D. Instead, they have only integrated the screens into physical sets that you are moving through (Mystic Manor), and thus avoid this problem entirely. Since, Alcatraz is 2-D (right?), I think we can be fairly confident that the screen integration method will follow Mystic Manor instead of Ratatouille.

However, I am concerned about the effectiveness of the “squinching” when there are multiple ride vehicles that might be fairly spaced out from each other...

Right. I admit I totally forgot Alcatraz won't be 3D. I love Transformers but I'm hoping they both have elevators and screens and the similarities end there.

such a huge show building
For reference, this is the approximate ride space:

Do we know this? I asked this like a year ago and I thought 3D glasses were confirmed.

You’d think that since they are making a big deal about Runaway Railway being glasses-free that they’d do the same for Alcatraz. Instead there is no mention of either, just like Ratatouille.

Not that it really means anything, but the folks at 8:58 aren't wearing any:
