Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

I don't see why anyone would be surprised if they did paid previews of SWL. Just because there isn't a major precedent for it doesn't mean it won't happen. I'm very interested in how they roll the opening of this land out.

If the opening of either SWL coincides with the dates and location of Star Wars Celebration there is a nearly 100% chance of ticketed previews.

As I have said before I have a few friends who work within this very area and have all gaurenteed paid events for the land are coming. Barring anything that would delay previews paid previews are but one option for an upcharge.

Forgive me for asking the same question again, but I've been unplugged from this thread for a few weeks and I saw a reference to a "theater entrance" and a "tunnel entrance" to SWL. Does this refer to the Grand Ave. entrance being a theater?

Grand Avenue entrance is a tunnel. There is no theater.

The “tunnel” and theater entrances are supposedly going to give the WDW version better sightlines than DL’s. That’s the only difference I’ve heard, and it must refer to outside the SWL berm, not within the otherwise identical lands. But of course nobody can prove that yet.
What does the "theater entrance" refer to?

You guys won't like the idea but..
What if you isolated SWL for the first month or so and did paid previews. Many of the die hard fans would pay and have little interest in the rest of the park. So you get the true fans in early with shorter line because it is paid only. You don't affect the rest of park operations. Then you open it to the general public seeing slightly lower attendance because the true fans have already seen it.

I imagine they've been thinking out all scenarios. I've kind of accepted we'll get some upcharge of some sort so it kind of is what it is. If we don't I'll be pleasantly surprised. But I do think they should try and find ways to cut down on the crush of the land. DL's opening earlier could help but I doubt it. Most hardcore fans will go to both if they can afford it. And the vast majority already who prefer WDW vacations will descend upon it ... so it's going to be a nightmare, IMHO.

I think they should have designed a convention space within Galaxy's Edge just for the purpose of hosting Celebration and other fan events.

There is no where near enough room for that to work. The last Star Wars Celebration in Orlando took up the entire west half of the Orange County Convention center.

Very good point.

However, if they planned it in from the start, I'm sure they could have used some adjacent land off of DHS park property to get it done.

Are you aware of the size of West Concourse of the Orange County convention center? It is several million square feet. Are you suggesting that Disney needs to build what would be one of the larger convention centers in the country to host a Star Wars Con that happens only every few years?

Call me crazy, but that seems a bit wasteful.

Have you ever attended Star Wars Celebration? The short answer is yes, the long answer is Disney doesn't need to build a new convention space, they just need to rent the entire Orange County Convention Center. But over 75,000 people will make any place seem small.
