Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

It's just a tunnel themed to the types of tunnels you see in the L.A. area. You go through it, turn a bend, and then you're in GE.

Correct, you're gonna have to add your own teleporting effects...

People seem just SO confused about Toy Story Land, Grand Avenue, surrounding SW Land. I don't see the big deal here.

I know.

"What's the transition from the jungles of earth to the jungles of Pandora?"

You cross a bridge.

"What's the transition from Main Street of the past to Tomorrowland?"

You turn right.

"What's the transition from Future World to World Showcase"

A giant concrete plaza.

Compared to the above, a tunnel in a giant wall is a huge step up in theming the transition and way more than what one would expect based on what's been done in the past.

*sigh

Well here comes this discussion again...

"They're not :)"

"But that's thematically inconsistent!!!!! :bookworm:"

"No, it's not because SW:GE represents a specific place in time in the SW universe and Star Tours is all over the universe's timeline."

"But it still doesn't make sense to have a Star Wars ride outside of Star Wars Land!!!!!!!!! :arghh:"

"Again see above post and Star Tours will be re-themed eventually and the gondolas will not have AC."

"But can't they use the speeders as the entrance to SW:GE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :arghh::arghh:"

"Not only would that be wildly impractical from the number of guest wanting to get into the land but also that would be forcing people who don't want to ride a thrill ride to, you know, ride a thrill ride."

"Well that just doesn't make sense and this shows that the Disney company is finished and the parks will be bankrupt before the end of the year... The gondolas need AC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh:":arghh:

:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Too good :) and too true :arghh:

Not complaining about what we’re getting, but it’s just astonishing how much work is going on there and how much the park is changing. The more of these pics I see, the more it seems like it would have been so much easier to build an entire 5th gate vs. what they are doing to DHS.

DHS was/is utterly lacking compared to the other 3 parks. They could have built a 5th gate for Star Wars but that wouldn't have fixed DHS's problems. Two birds, one stone.

I think they are partially fixing the problem, even though it's mostly replacement. What was there before was not getting anywhere close to its theoretical hourly capacity (looking at you Backlot Tour and GMR) and/or was not consistently running (LMA). 5 new rides will add used capacity even though they may not have increased nominal hourly capacity.

Disclaimer: I would still have preferred updated GMR and Mickey ride elsewhere but I can't deny they will have increased real capacity even with what they are doing.

To some extent they're still not fixing the problem. It's a process of replacement, not addition.

True, but from a business standpoint, it only makes sense to first upgrade before adding whenever you can. Otherwise you're continuing maintenance and operation expense on attractions that aren't very attractive anymore or have become too costly to maintain, especially if the cost of maintenance is practically re-doing the whole thing. Of course, if they only upgrade and never add... that's sad. At DHS, it's painful because they're doing both at once, but in the end, they'll be going from 6 rides to 9... by way of going down to 4 first.
