Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

If both of these rides aren't in the top 5 best attractions in the world, it's going to be hard to consider this land a success.
That is a pretty high bar. I think one Super E (top 5 in the world) and a solid E for 1 land is pretty good these days. This doesn't even include the atmosphere, shops, restaurant and cast members in character.
They just built a park in Shanghai with 4 E-tickets and one of those rides isn't even currently running.

I've high hopes for Alcatraz. The competition is tough though. WDW ToT. Indiana Jones Adventure. Forbidden Journey. Mystic Manor. Disneyland Pirates. Spider-Man. Etc, etc. etc.
Safe to assume that you just listed your top 6 of things you've experienced? I haven't done Mystic Manor, but would add in Kilimanjaro Safaris on any list I created as well as WDW's Splash Mountain. Journey to the Center of the Earth would fall just outside for me, even though it might be the best themed ride I've ever experienced.

Roaring Rapids is running again, fwiw.

Yes, the bar is high, but so is the budget and so are the stakes. Perhaps two top 5 attractions in the world is a tough bar, but if one isn't in the top 5 and the other isn't in the conversation for top 10 then it's not going to look good. The entirety of the land has to be better than Diagon, Africa, Mysterious Island, American Waterfront and Cars Land and two major E tickets along with incredible theming should clinch that.

Good to hear RR is running again!

Do any of the lands you listed have 2 Super-E tickets? I am not sure about the American Waterfront, but the other's don't seem to.

Personally, from what I know, I am happy with the 2 rides we are getting, but I think they should have also included the transport attraction that was to provide kinetic energy. I think there should be a 3 ride minimum when it comes to new land, but Disney seems to think 2 are enough (Avatar, TSL & SWL).

None of them do, and it's why I make the argument for Africa being the best themed land I've experienced because it does have a lot of other substance now.

American Waterfront has the most attractions of any of the ones I listed: has Tower of Terror (E-ticket), Toy Story Mania (D-ticket), Big Band Beat (fantastic show, Aladdin at DCA level quality), Turtle Talk with Crush, the train, a couple of smaller shows and several restaurants. It's almost like putting Future World in the conversation, but not quite.

Mysterious Island has Journey to the Center of the Earth (E-ticket) and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (Solid D-ticket).

I'm optimistic, very optimistic... but at a certain point your expectations should be kept in reasonable check. It's all going to be terribly subjective, but saying top 5 actually doesn't properly highlight that the Top 10 list has become extremely crowded. A list of all stellar attractions. Even the top 15 will be crowded if these attractions qualify.

I totally understand what you are saying though, expectations should be very high, it's a big project with a lot of money. The "hope" is that it is better than all those lands, but if someone says it's their runner up compared to land x, that doesn't make it a total failure. Instead, the hope is that it should definitely be in the conversation and that someone might consider it the best at the end of the day, not that there is 100% group consensus (which there will never be). It should not, however, be New Fantasyland....

I highlighted two attractions @marni1971 mentioned that are amazing and actually miss my personal top ten. I'd hope Alcatraz compares very favourably to the new PoTC (whether or not that is enough to make everyone's top five list is subjective - but it sounds like a similar wheelhouse and scope) and I'd hope Big Bird compares favourably to Spiderman... which is in itself an amazing attraction and actually missed my top ten!

New Orleans Square gets left out of the conversation, but that's actually the model. My expectations are that the attractions compare relatively favourably and the land itself rolls out Diagon Alley's bag of tricks in terms of immersion. For me that would be a measure of success.

For the record, my personal (and often very fluid) list of what these attractions are competing against to even break 15:

1. Mystic Manor
2. Pirates of the Caribbean Shanghai
3. JTTCOE
4. Forbidden Journey
5. Splash Mountain (Functional Florida version or Tokyo)
6. Radiator Springs Racers
7. Haunted Mansion
8. Indiana Jones Adventure
9. Pirates of the Caribbean (Paris)
10. Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage
11. Spiderman
12. Kilimanjaro Safari
13. Tower of Terror (DHS/Tokyo theme)

*Not experienced Rat or Kong - but I don't think those would make the cut for what I value.

No 14 or 15?

No 14 or 15?

The presumption was that for these attractions to occupy the list they need to bump out 14/15.

My list starts getting into the partially flawed E-tickets: Everest/Tron.
Amazing attractions for their categories, that aren't E-tickets: Hunny Hunt, Hogwarts Express or Tokyo's 20k leagues.
Strong second tier E-tickets: Star Tours, Monster's Inc Ride and Go Seek, the coasters (Space Mountain/Big Thunder/Grizzly Gulch).
Dated E-tickets: ET, Jurassic Park, various Small Worlds, Epcot offerings.
Overlays: Phantom Manor, Dinosaur, Transformers.
Simple Fantasyland dark rides...

Gringott's somewhere in there depending on my current level of hatred for it.

So yes, if the two Star Wars attractions come in above all that I'll be satisfied.

If it's not on par with Battle for the Sunken Treasure, I'd be inclined to remove Trowbridge from the Star Wars portfolio. I'd say that's probably the best Disney attraction right now.

What budget are we looking at for Alcatraz? 400 Million? This is a chance for the domestic parks to finally get a true 21st Century E Ticket (Radiator Springs is middle of the road). They better not blow it.

Are there issues regarding the design of the two attractions? Trowbridge has a nice portfolio and a proven track record. Any insider information??

Nah, just the way he was talking. I like Trowbridge and I'm excited about the attraction, but it had be better be one of the best attractions (if not the best) in the world. Alcatraz has the budget and creative team behind it to be jaw dropping. There's no room for mediocrity. This can only be the best.
