I did the mathematical calculations and concluded SWL will open in 2019. Which is before the 2020's as some predicted.

Even if what he said is true (I personally have no reason to trust his information), all it tells you is that the land won't open for at the very least two years in DL which is likely to open first.

So admittedly I havent kept up with this thread since the announcement, but do we now when they will actually be breaking ground so to speak on SW land at DHS? Havent they already started in CA? We just came back from WDW on Friday and I couldnt tell that any construction has started on ToyStory or SW. We are approaching 2017 I dont even see how 2019 would be possible for both lands. Isnt TSland suppsed to open first? It seemed to take forever for New Fantasyland to be built and I am assuming SW land is supposed to be unprecedented and more immersive. And we are expecting 2 lands to be built within the next 2 1/2 years?

According to the parks blog ground broke months ago. Toy Story won't be that immersive so I can see that being done in 2018 no problem. Star Wars is the question mark but demo has really picked up lately at DHS so I am cautiously optimistic.

Permits have been filed for actual construction work (as opposed to demolition) for both lands, and the recent aerial phots show some work going on in the TSL area. For all intents and purposes both project are currently under way.

Thanks for the update. I couldnt tell by just walking around last week that there was any work being done. We even went to the dead ends to take pics by the concept art posters. My husband asked when it would be completed and I said eventually lol.

Oh great. You mentioned aerial photos. Is there a dedicated thread to the costruction photos or is it mixed in with this thread?

I've posted the following on a couple of threads, so bear with me lol...
A lot of people have been asking about the fate of Star Tours and it's future (if any) with Star Wars Land. I personally love Star Tours, and considering it's popular, light-hearted fun aspect, I think it could fit thematically well within the new planet if Imagineering decides to keep it. However, it's current location is what plagues such discussions. So I came up with this wishful thinking design layout (attached image) for the south side of the park, that keeps Star Tours to a new location within the SWL site. In my plan, Star Tours would relocate to the former location of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, with the size of the current ride building fitting snugly there (exempting gift shop space), and still leaving more than enough room for the new attractions Disney has planned for SWL in the demo prep site. This would leave Muppets Courtyard untouched and not sticking out awkwardly between Star Tours and SWL. Toy Story Land stays the same. With Star Tours moved, this would allow the original Star Tours, Backlot Express, and Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular buildings (and maybe some backstage) to be yesteryear, allowing room for an Echo Lake expansion (or other mini-land, preferably with a new/semi-new Indiana Jones themed attraction). If I were the powers that be with no concerns in spending (ha!), this is what I would pursue for this part of the park (I have expansion ideas cooked up for the other half of the park too). This is just fan-dreaming, of course. :);)

And if that building were actually sitting there at this moment it would be a great idea, however, it isn't so it won't. They are not going to rebuild an entire show building just to keep something that they don't really care if they keep or not, I'm thinking.

Harry Potter works because of the IP first then it is IP that lends itself to be a land and that people want to be a part of and explore and spend time in. It is a world that was able to be brought to life and people from the books and the movies wanted to experience it. It is way way more then the two rides it is walking the area enjoying butter beer going into the stories tou read about and experienced over many many years. That is why this land is so special and not many IP can accomplish this type of experience.

Disney has one such IP that can work and that is Star Wars. But the issue with this is that as great as this Ip is and how crazy this fan base is and I am one of the die hard fans it still lacks some of the appeal of potter.

Nothing in Star Wars world lends itself to a drink everyone has imagined trying or stores we all want to see and experience. It is ip that takes place in vast planets that can get confusing and hard to remember. For this land to be successful Disney has got to make the people walking around the secondary experiences out of this world to get people to explore and see things that bring them into the movies and books. That is why it scares me a little that they are going to a new planet one not experienced before.

Mind you I will be giddy seeing aliens and droids walking around and performing street acts. I would love to eat at the cantina but I need to be lost in the world using the force to explore little crannies of it and becoming one with the story.

Potter was able to do this for me and many others. I am a bigger Star Wars fan and I hope they are able to do the same.

I can guarantee you Blue Milk will be one of the main non-alcoholic drinks that they try to sell in a Butterbeer type way.

I actually think making a new planet is a smart move for a setting as vast as Star Wars. The fresh but familiar setting was what made the original Star Tours so strong versus how 2.0 is overly indulgent in copying the movies and making dumb in-jokes.

I don't think it was by coincidence that Rey was shown making and eating instead bread in Ep VII; it wouldn't shock me if other SW movies feature scenes of people eating or mentioning food/drink for that reason.

OKay but star wars has Blue Milk, the Cantina or any of the various scrap shops filled with strange alien owners, everyone wants to own a lightsaber, everyone would do a force walk through attraction similar to the wands in hogsmeade. In short Star Wars has as much appeal if not more due to it's longer generational pull than Harry Potter. Setting this land in a planet that hasn't been in the films is a smart way to incorporate many of the elements from the films that occur in different settings in one location.
