Here's the latest from our lady blogger. And this is perhaps our last video look at the construction before we see the big model and WDI Pavilion on the D23 showfloor this Friday.

4 more sleeps until the show floor model! :joyfull:

Crazy we've been through a full D23 cycle with this project, well over half way there by that metric!

The Star Wars model and WDI Pavilion dedicated to Star Wars, called "Galaxy of Stories", will premiere to the media and select bloggers tonight, before the show officially opens tomorrow. It seems like there's going to be a gazillion photos and videos and comments about this new model and big exhibit.

Do you all think we should start a new thread dedicated to the D23 Expo WDI "Galaxy of Stories" Pavilion?

Do you know what time it is today, and are phones and cameras allowed? I hope to see pictures tonight :D

Six o'clock this evening. Cameras will be allowed. We should see the first photos just as the cocktail hour is ending.
Great, thanks, I'm going to be looking at Twitter around that time and I don't think I will EVER take my eyes off Twitter when I see the model (of course, until SWL comes out and I step foot in it).

Looks like new Rockwork formations are being made for Star Wars Land at Disneyland.

The Millennium Falcon concept art was literally exactly as I imagined it, with Mission:SPACE-esque buttons to push. Navigator! Activate the inertial dampers! *beep*

Bobby Chapek changed the name. It's now called the Melania Falcon, in honor of our new First Lady.

He announces this exciting name change at 1:30 here...

But according to Imagineer Scott Trowbridge, if you don't push the buttons correctly the CM kid working the snack bar across from the exit will know and he will make fun of you in front of others. That's what Bobby Chapek calls "immersive".

I don't know that I'm sold on this new level of interaction/immersion they are promoting and I know they've said it is optional, but I want to be able to just walk around the area, ride the two rides and just go along my way without being bothered.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but some of the stuff they have talked about just doesn't interest me. I'm sure my kids would like it though.

"Immersion" on these attractions usually amounts to people telling you how important you supposedly are (even when you don't have to press the button) and screens showing you on the ride. Never mind that they definitively did "immersion" in the late 60s when they came up with that Haunted Mansion mirror gag. They must have thought it was cute and "immersive" to have a fake computer tell you to wave your arms in the GOTG ride, but can I tell you, no one was doing it. Or card games with screens in windows. So immersive!

Falcon will be more immersive/interactive than you are giving it credit for. Just remember that she's not always the most cooperative lady to keep running. Everyone on board should be kept busy enough.

Of course at the end of the day, it's not like you can just completely go off the rails on your own adventure.

Here are my observations about the model. It looks like the entries into the land will expose details in layers. The center and east entrances on BTT open into courtyards with more reveals of the village around the corners. The west approach around Hungry Bear and under the trestle leads to a winding path through the forest revealing many details including resistance presence, ships, waterfalls, and lots of trees.

I see a lot of DAK in both the lushness and the theming, along with EPCOT's Morocco on steroids. It's really hard to take in all the detail piled on in every direction. I was gratified that the Fan!! storage building was so clearly delineated, even though in reality it's covered by foliage (with a couple of humungoid exhaust fans).

One of the biggest reveals for me is what appears to be a back stage service court in front of the gap between the two attraction show buildings. If you look at the big archway going from the forest to the village, the buildings behind the arch (and directly in front of the gap) appear to be unthemed on the back. The front corners of the show buildings aren't themed all the way down to the ground. This suggests to me that this area is not open to guests. In the rock wall to the left of the arch, there is a big wooden door/gate with a pedestrian-sized opening on the left like the usual type of backstage access. I would not be surprised to see a similar large opening on the east end, near the Falcon.

It looks like SWGE is more dramatically divided between forest/village, resistance/First Order, and light side/dark side than I previously expected. Looking at the big arch entering the village there is also a more open path in front (closer to the Fan!! storage) leading into the village. If the area directly in front of the two show buildings really is a backstage service court, then this creates a bigger delineation between two themed environments--even more than WDW MK's FL courtyard and forest. The service court makes sense because the land needs room for deliveries and staging, as well as trash compactors, cardboard balers,, etc.. I would expect similar support amenities at the east end in front of the already completed one-story white building across from Toon Town.

What is mind-boggling to me is that the model only represents the physical environment we will experience. This alone is too much to take in at one time. Even visiting the model on Friday and Sunday, and already having an orientation as to the basics of the layout, I found it challenging to absorb. But this doesn't even include all the interior details and activities. Both the rides will be game-changers in the industry. The level of immersion with Streetmosphere and interactivity promises to be more than we have ever seen.

I'm still getting my head around all this. I'm actually getting more excited the more I learn. I haven't visited Avatar yet, but I see the potential here to top Harry Potter. The advance word on the Battle Escape/Alcatraz is that it will be the new giant-killer in the industry.

Would somebody please wake me when it's 2019?

Ditto. I can't even really imaging my kids liking it much. Immersion shouldn't have to mean you're participating in some hokey skit. I have little to zero interest in something like this. I mean it would be funny seeing a Stormtrooper following my kids around because they were terrible pilots or something like that, but not if we have to stop and interact for any length of time. I envision a lot of awkward blank stares and then quietly walking away from my family. LOL

I thought about this during the presentation...
The idea would work better if it was its own park and there was more to do and you were going to spend your whole day there...but for a few hours? it will be interesting to see how it all works.
