What if the ride vehicles could go anywhere they wanted in the building? It would be completely random as long as they hit certain areas. After eight minutes, they go to the final scene sequence and let you out.
I guess that could be cool, but I think practically that would be a complete mess. Both from a story perspective and an operations perspective. There could be multiple plots and outcomes, but I think a completely random ride would be way too avant garde.

Ride paths are pre determined. The ride system will give the appearance of some randomness. It won't all be like an alley or a street as seen in Transformers for example.

What if they are building identical rides on the 1st and 2nd floor for capacity reasons?.
They aren't.

That could mean the vehicles burn through there fast (like Radiator Springs Racers). But these are supposed to be like Mystic Manor vehicles.....

So... probably a big chunk of the building is actually elaborate show queue, but alternate paths might explain it too.
Expect ride vehicle stops. More than once.

And yes, probably around 50% of what you see as a footprint will be ride, on two floors. The rest is part of the queue and also vehicle maintenance.

I wish I didn't know that this ride will only be 8 minutes.

Why 'only' 8 minutes? You think that's too short? It's seems rather normal...

Most, if not all, of the rides 8 minutes or less in length aren't housed in a 2-story 4 acre building.

On a side note I'm impressed that you had all of that data at your fingertips.

Helpful list, thanks! Look at that fat 45 minutes for Universe of Energy!

Moving up from there (or moving shorter from there) it's shows... the railroad... then we get to two big 'Thesis' attractions, Kilimanjaro Safari and Great Movie Ride at 18+ min. Then more shows... Another thesis attraction: Spaceship Earth at 15 min. Then shows... Land and Imagination... more shows... riverboat... then we finally get to the longest Magic Kingdom RIDE ride, Splash Mountain, at 11 min.

Splash Mountain feels like it ends after the big drop, and then it's a pleasant wait floating past things on your way to unload. The Zip-a-Dee-Lady notwithstanding, the bulk of the Splash Mountain experience is in its first 8 minutes.

8 min is in a fine ballpark. I'm also especially comforted by the fact that Haunted Mansion is 7.5 min. I'm assuming that's the doom buggy portion only. If battle escape is going to have great queue/show before its ride just like Mansion has the stretching room, then I don't think we'll feel short changed.

8 mins should be fine. I'm sure it's gonna be a lot more fast paced than your classic Disney dark rides, probably more akin to IJA (although I'm assuming not quite so bumpy). If it was only 5 minutes, I'd be a little concerned, but with the tone I'm expecting from this ride, there is such a thing as lasting too long.

Although, honestly, I'm looking most forward to the queue. If it's as incredible as the insiders have made it seem, then I think we're for a real treat.

You guys I'm not bothered by a Disneyland ride that's 8 minutes long. I'm just surprised that a ride housed in such an enormous building only lasts 8 minutes.
This has always been a fascination for me. I often wonder what % of the show building is actually dedicated to "show" itself vs infrastructure. I want to say its probably 70-30 in favor of "show", but I could be way wrong.

Needed it for another argument in another thread. ;)

Themed roller coasters take up a huge amount of space, yet, their rides are short because they're fast. I expect 'Alcatraz' to be fast-paced.

POTC at DL is only 8.5 minutes? Or is that the WDW version?

This is what gets me. As I've said before (and will likely say again), my biggest problem with the Star Wars project is how careless it is with real estate. It just doesn't make sense for Disneyland's compact scale and clever use of space throughout the rest of the park

For reference, 165,000SF is larger than the Jungle Cruise, it's larger than Pirates and all of the New Orleans Square shops and restaurants, it's larger than all of Critter Country. For those familiar with WDW's massive attractions, it's significantly bigger than the Universe of Energy, The Great Movie Ride, or the new combined Avatar building; it's almost as large as the infamously-sprawling Land pavilion, with it's 3 attractions, 2 restaurants, and massive greenhouses. It's roughly the same size as Star Tours, the Space Mountain Complex, Pizza Port, and the Carousel Theater combined.

It will be the single biggest footprint structure that Disney has ever built, about 1/3 bigger than the next closest (the Contemporary convention center in WDW). All for a single attraction that will last about 8 minutes. It just doesn't make sense.

I have a similar complaint with Carsland, which devotes about 5.5 acres to a single attraction (roughly the same size as The Land pavilion), but at least DCA has always been built on a larger scale (though with terrible use of space) so it somewhat fits the park. Then again, DCA's poor spacing of elements (and general haphazard layout) has been a complaint of mine since my first visit.

The limited land surrounding the park is all Disneyland has for future expansion. Once it's gone, there really aren't any other options for true additions to the park. If we have to give up DL's past (the original River) and DL's future (any meaningful chance at expansion), they need to make the most of this opportunity. Although I'm sure the details will be very well executed, like all recent WDI projects, I just can't help but see how terribly they're using the park's limited resources. It just seems very shortsighted, which I guess is typical of the current management approach
