To you. Star Wars is a brand. I have students who love Star Wars but have never seen the original trilogy. I have many who only watched the few different cartoon series. Most of my friends my age read the books and know all kinds of other plot lines and planets and people. This is all Star Wars. Just because its an aspect of Star Wars that you haven't seen represented in a feature film doesn't make it not part of the Star Wars lore and brand. The original trilogy is ancient history in terms of the public eye. I'm 35 and I didn't even grow up with the original trilogy. Focusing on a story nearing 50 years old is not the way to satisfy the wants/needs of guests.
Millions more people watched A New Hope than ever read any Star Wars books. This is not how people will attend Star Wars Land based on book they never read. So this is Not Star Wars for many people.

Why is Galaxy's Edge's backstory that Batuu is long since its glory days? Why not have the land be in the glory days? What a stupid idea that was. Just make the glory days of Batuu be during the Sequel Trilogy!

Because almost every Star Wars location is long since its glory days/outposty feeling. The exceptions are Cloud City and the Empirical ships, both of which feature long stark hallways.

The glory days of Batuu don't have to be like that. They could've been like the original Star Tours. Some wear and tear here and there, but not everything needs to be covered with rust, disease, and peeling paint.

So you're saying it has history and a story?
Published on July 24, 2018, way after Disney conceived Galaxy’s Edge, which is based on Sequel Trilogy Star Wars that may not necessarily appear in Episode 9. They’re making it up before we know anything about it. Batuu is still a mystery as to what it’s backstory is.

Not a mystery. I found it in 2 seconds on google. And if they work it into future media, then its even more obvious.

I find it funny that so many folks are having a fit because Disneyland, a park which caters to younger crowds and families, didn't base their newest experience on a movie which drew them in 40+ years ago and instead based it on the newer content. "Waaahhh! Why isn't Disneyland catering to 50 year olds????"

What newer content? It took me 2 seconds to find out there no story. Just a description.

A trading post where people hide from the First Order. They’re hiding in plain sight.

Well I wouldn't expect them to make stuff up after we know it. I don't even know how that would begin to work. They designed a land they felt would fit well in Disneyland (whether it does is up for debate, but I think from the way they chose to blend it with surrounding lands, they did try and put some thought into that), and built stories for this new planet that were in part released before opening and others releasing next month.

As for Batuu's backstory, it's a planet at the edge of 'wild space' that used to be a central hub of travel for long journeys, but fell by the wayside when lightspeed travel was invented. These days, it's much more under the radar, which made it the perfect place for the Resistance to hide out while they regroup.

Waiting for this to actually be in a story in Star Wars.

Hate to break it to you, but this is a multi media franchise and not just movies. You don't have to like it, but that's how the franchise is being handled. Medium doesn't decide whether something is a part of the franchise. You don't have to care about any of it beyond the movies, but it's an IP, and this is how the IP holder is running it.

Amazing. I’m actually asking Disney to put Star Wars in Star Wars Land. Batuu is not quite there yet. Of course I don’t have to like it. That’s the way things work when Disney mishandles IP. I choose to stay away.

Well we agree on one thing! I too am waiting for Disney to put Star Wars into Star Wars Land.

And it’s probably dumb of me, but I do believe they’ll correct some of their wrongs.

I have hope.
