Financial reality check on Aisle Three--

There are many parallels to this. Look at a Broadway hit like The Producers or Hamilton. Seeing it the first year with the original cast is expensive. Already expensive tickets run out and people are reduced to paying a high premium to resellers/scalpers. It's less expensive and more available after the stars/leads leave after their contracts end, and cheaper still on the national tour. Later there are regional professional productions and then local, college and public schools. For movies, there are premium premiere prices, packages like the El Capitan, reserved seats, and advanced sales, many with service charges.

The "new thing" is always rare and, thus, more expensive. Walt's egalitarian vision for Disneyland is dead. That's the Disneyland that was my back yard, growing up two miles south of the Disneyland Hotel in the '60s. The end of ticket books and the advent of APs are the most notable of the cultural changes in Anaheim. And there's no going back. I miss that Disneyland. I worked there in the mid-70s. But I love the Disney parks today for what they are, however problematic.

So, I think it's inevitable that there will be up-pricing. Pay-to-play is a thing. It's not going away, no matter how much I hate it. Sorry if this sounds like a lecture (I have a problem with that, even though it's not what I mean most of the time). My concern, like many of those posting to this thread, is how bad it will be. Personally, I'm preparing to be disappointed/lowering my expectations with respect to access to SW:GE in the first months.

I've been holding back on visiting DLR in part because SW:GE's opening is on the horizon. In the end I'll probably not go for a year or two after it opens because I can't stand crowds. I've been toying with visiting to WDW for some time now. With all the new stuff in Florida, and even more in the pipeline, going to Florida from the Bay Area to experience SW:GE is more appealing to me than traveling to Anaheim.

DISNEY GEEK ALERT!!!

One of my rebel spies reports that they know someone working on SW:GE and that this person said they have ridden a personnel carrier vehicle through the lower level of the Battle Escape/Alcatraz attraction and that it's incredible! The comments were consistent with what I and others have heard over the past year or two--that Imagineering is throwing everything Disney has into this ride and that it will be the new "giant killer" in the industry after Transformers, Harry Potter, and Avatar. They also said the elevators will be amazing.

I have talked directly to two people I know who are working in SW:GE and their lips are S.E.A.L.E.D.!!! They just smile (really, really big) and say it's gonna be great and that they're soooo happy to be working on it. I would never ask them to violate their NDA no matter how much I want to spend hours debriefing them.

BUT I WANT IT OPEN NOW!!!

If its anything as good as they have done like POTC in Shanghai then they will have a huge hit on their hands. That ride is my top 5 favorite Disney rides worldwide. It would be amazing if we got something that will top that.

OT: What are your top five? I have only visited the US parks.

No particular order:

-Indiana Jones (DL and TDS)
-Sinbad (TDS)
-Haunted Mansion
-Winnie the Pooh (TDL)
-POTC (SDL)

To make clear though the list always shifts here and there but these are my usual top favorites worldwide.
No Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln? I can't take this list seriously.

I'll try not to lose any sleep....although that's not very hard when you're watching that show. Zing!

No one knows — and that’s precisely why people will pay!

I'm sorry but my belief is there is now an upper limit to how much people are willing to pay for these previews. Like I said to others a couple months ago I would have said $500-1000, now I'm not so sure. I just don't think the appetite is there for APs to pay that much. And I don't believe there is all this pent up demand waiting to pay almost 10x ticket value to see SW:GE before everyone else.

Again my opinion, but $150-300 is now the range I think someone would be willing to pay.

Here's a random yet on-topic survey question:

Once it opens, what percentage of your day's visit do you think you'll spend in SWL?

1) all day, baby!!
2) higher than 50%
3) exactly 50%
4) less than 50%
5) less than 10% (basically a walk-through)
6) none whatsoever, get me as far as away as possible.
