They've completely retracked space mountain and big thunder in the past decade.5. Neither attraction was torn down. Pirates is not going anywhere. I was born in 1989, not 1965. I was raised on pirates, as my parents were. The "next generation" was too. Nobody is bored by it. If people wanted YouTube video attractions, they'd watch youtube. The company isn't building anything like HM, Pirates, or Small World anymore. The rest of the stuff is frankly getting interchangeable. Roller coaster or dark ride system + random IP that isn't that iconic. Nothing contemporary will last as-is as long as Pirates and HM have. There are 5 IASWs around the globe now, and 5 Pirates. We are at the point now where, if visiting a disney park is a rite of passage, and riding these attractions is a rite of passage, then the billions of people living in the industrialized world who visit Disney parks will experience them and gain nostalgia. Nostalgia has absolutely nothing to do with when somebody was born. This hypothesis about the next generation not caring for pirates or not caring about the twilight zone is completely unfounded because, again, I was born in 89, and when TZTOT opened in the mid nineties, I and their entire 90s kids audience had never seen the show.

And yet, they got rid of TZ from ToT at DCA and the rumors are it'll eventually be removed from all ToTs. Peoplemover another attraction that is considered nostalgic, was changed and then shutdown. Point is that when Disney decides that they need to remove or change an attraction they don't care about nostalgia as much as fans believe.

So just because you don't believe they will do anything with attractions like PotC, HM, or any other attraction doesn't make it any less correct of an opinion as mine. Disney will do whatever they want with the parks despite what fans think, believe, or yell about. And they have proven that many times, especially recently. Just look at the "uproar" with "Redd" change, they don't care what the vocal fandom thinks. They are making that change no matter what.

As for the retracking, Matterhorn is a different as the track is built into the mountain. They have replaced certain sections, but to retrack the entire thing they'd need to tear down the mountain. Its the reason why some sections are still rough despite all the fixes they've tried. Its just like Expedition Everest and the "Disco" Yeti, in order to fix and replace the Yeti they'd have to tear down that entire section of the mountain and rebuild it. As the Yeti is built into the mountain.

Nostalgia is based on someones opinion about a particular experience. If a kid is bored when coming to Disneyland because they aren't interested in what is being offered then they won't feel nostalgic about it as an adult. Now I know that is an outlandish opinion considering we all here are nostalgic about Disney. But its true, there are literally Millions and Millions of people that have no interest in Disneyland and aren't nostalgic about it despite having gone as a kid.

Also just because I have this opinion doesn't mean I think it will happen tomorrow, next week, or even in the next 5 years. It fact I think we are likely three decades or more away from a decision like that being made. But at some point its something I think they will have to do because of the limited space available at DL proper.

I visited disneyland a lot in my early years, then wdw ages 6-10, and then disneyland again. I was shocked when I saw the matterhorn. What is this? It looked awful. I don't have "nostalgia" for it. To me, it has always been obvious that it was bad show. Horrible rocks, which is fine, it was the first one. But they should just resculpt the thing entirely. Throw another mountain on top of it.

Which proves my point about nostalgia. Nostalgia is all based on experience. Since you formed better memories of WDW you have nostalgia for its offerings, but never formed nostalgia for Matterhorn, despite obviously enjoying and feeling nostalgic for other things in DL.

So the SOLO premier was last night and although there is an embargo on full reviews until the 15 of May reviews are pouring in on Twitter.

Looks like all the worrying about the movie reshoots wete for nothing because plenty of positive reviews are coming in.
Several saying Alden was great as Solo

“Alden Ehrenreich is super impressive as Han”

Who is this mystery audience who loves screens more than animatronics? So few rides are screen-based. Soarin, star tours. If audiences were unanimously in favor of screens, wouldn't those have the longest lines, and 3d attractions would be the most popular? No 3d theaters are still in operation at Disneyland with their original attractions, while the 3 attractions people are speculating the demise of are the most popular rides in the resort.

Just saw your comment about Fast and Furious. "Some" even like it. Please, go read the comment sections on the new supercharged attraction povs on youtube. "Some" isn't enough for Disney, whose American resorts are visited by 30 and 50 million people a year.

Screen based doesn't mean only 3D movies. Look at Shanghai's PotC, Mission BO, Spiderman, Transformers, the new Millennium Falcon attraction. I thought Kong was terrible use of screens, but it ranks highly among guest polls. I suspect Fast and the Furious will be similar where a majority of guests enjoy it overall.

I never trust first reactions. People were saying Rogue One was better than Empire when it premiered and that's one of the worst Star Wars movies to date.

I think Mission BO's success enticed Disney to the Universal model. They gave us discount Tranformers and people ate it up.
They don't realize (or maybe they do) that MB is a success because its core is a fun drop ride and the only thrill ride of its type at DLR. They could have themed it to Prince of Persia or The Wuzzles and people would still be lining up for it.

I may agree with some of the other points, but I'm still not buying this one. The ending and Vader/Leia made sense to me, but hey everyone has their own tolerance on the SW prequel/sequel movies.

I just hated Leia being turned into the worst liar in the galaxy.

Vader: Where are the plans that were beamed aboard this ship? Or, I guess, beamed aboard the other ship and then handed to this ship?

Leia: Whaaaaat? No....We...we are on a diplomatic mission.

Vader: I saw the plans physically handed over to this ship. I saw this ship pull away. Then we followed you and apprehended you shortly after.

Leia: No. Wasn't us.

Vader: I saw you.

Leia: Uh uh.

True, but so many claim its so much better than the original. I know part of that is the blaring music and the more physical movement as the car never stops moving now; but it also shows that people don't care about physical sets and practical effects as much as we hoped, they are perfectly content with poorly integrated flat screens to play clips.

Exactly. If any exec is thinking that people are lining up for this ride specifically for the screen-based antics, then they're crazy.
