I think the thought is that it would be impossibly lame to have the Cantina in SWGE and not have any alcoholic options.
I know that's the thought. Should Disney also have alien drug dealers and prostitutes in the cantina? Immersion!

Drink your blue milk and clam up, adults-upset-that-a-bar-based-on-a-location-in-a-kids-film-could-be-*gasp*-dry.

In 30 years, Disney could finally decide to use the TS lot and build a new park. That kinda takes all of those decisions off the table. That being said, building a 3rd park may still be a stretch. My gut tells me you would see Toontown, Subs, Autopia, America Sings Building and the FL theater all get torn out and those areas repurposed before you'll see Disney touch some of the true classics (though I consider Autopia a classic).
Autopia is probably one of the only true classics I wouldn't mind bidding goodbye. It's just not a fun experience and takes up a huge chunk of the park.

If Disneyland has alcohol, then DCA's crowds will disappear. The number one thing I hear people defend DCA with is that it has alcohol and Disneyland doesn't. I will be upset, though, honestly. Not because I care about Walt's opinions but I find alcohol to turn men into fools and we have enough fools at Disneyland without the help of alcohol.
While I enjoy a drink at DCA, that's never been my criteria for visiting. I've never had a single friend make that comment either...those that love it do so because they enjoy the more "adult" rides.

I'm not, and never, saying nothing should change. I'm just saying not *everything* should change.

lol, I know, that seems to be your on-going motto.
And I, like @Rich T are saying that while change is inevitable, the entire park doesn't have to change. There are plently of things currently there that I would change. But there are also attractions that should really just be considered historical landmarks and not touched by the money-grubbing corporate fingers.

Ok, so lets play a game.

Disneyland has just run out of space. All the areas that we all talk about that need change have changed, TL, TT, FL Expansion, Motor Boat area, Subs/Autopia, etc. There is no expansion pads left.

The only way to bring new into the park is now remove the old "untouchable" attractions. What do you do?

But that still doesn't help with stagnation in DL itself. Building a 3rd park only makes that worse. The point is that unless you are going to say DL is a museum eventually they will have to touch the "untouchable".

But was it fun when you were a child? I can think of a few things at the park that I loved as a kid but really don't bother with much now but I would never want to go because they were amazing family experiences when I had kids. I also maintain that Autopia is a rite of passage for every kid...for many it's their first chance to "drive" a car. I'd love to see it stay but do think it will go at some point.

Lol, that's hardly a "game". You've completely stacked the deck against me.

But for the sake of playing, I'd build a third gate :)

Frankly I think you've taken the "Disneyland is not a museum" mantra a bit too extremely. Current management too would love to play musical attractions with whatever the flavor-of-the-month IP is, but its just not smart. Not unless you want to completely alienate your fan base. If I came to DL on a 5-year plan and every time I came everything was different, why would I keep going back?

I say we just knock down Main Street and replace it with 1980's small town America. Also replace Sleeping Beauty Castle with Avengers' Tower. Put Shanghai's Pirates in New Orleans Square to replace the controversial aspects of PotC. Peter Pan, now Frozen. Snow White, now Zootopia. Mr. Toad, now Wreck It Ralph.

While I enjoy a drink at DCA, that's never been my criteria for visiting. I've never had a single friend make that comment either...those that love it do so because they enjoy the more "adult" rides.
Adult rides like... the Incredicoaster? Mission Breakout? Sure, they're more thrilling than Space Mountain or Big Thunder, I suppose, but the content is far more childish than either of those.

I still find it fun, and it's a HUGE deal to kids, but it's not worth the space. I say build a smaller, space-efficient replacement in Cars Land so kids can still get the same general experience.

It was "fun" but my local mini amusement park had go-karts that were far and away better quality. So I quickly tired of it.

It can be cut in half, replaced with better cars, and not so danged loud. Besides, wasn't it oringally built to show how fun it is to drive on the freeways???

But lets say a 3rd gate is not an option. What now?

The point I'm trying to make is discussions like this happen at Disney all the time. And eventually they will have to finally make a decision on it. We may be 30+ years off from that, but it will happen. I know its not a happy conversation to think about, but its something that the fandom will have to accept.

Unless of course they go the other way and say DL is now a museum.... ;)

Do you know that for a fact?
And honestly, calling DL a museum would be fine with me :)

Look, I'm not opposed to park changes. Believe me, I want to see a brand new TL as much as the next guy...But I just don't think that at some point, everything is going to change. I'd like to believe that somewhere out there is a new CEO that will be both a savvy businessman and a true Disney fan at heart who sees the value in preserving the park's legacy pieces.

Here's my other thought. Change it to futuristic cars on elevated roadways going through the spaces in buildings created for the Peoplemover. Sort of a slow Rocket Rods reboot, but much more low-tech and low-maintenance.
