Stopped by this afternoon and took a few shots of the tram construction area.

Which leads me to this super-rough estimate of the new tram path. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with for the actual security check area.

I had posted these quick photoshop pics of tram area in another site. When I first heard of the possibility of the security area moving. It was just a guess so it's not to scale or shape but i wonder if they are thinking of something similar
In the top photo I added another elevator shaft to help with crowding. I also forgot to add the extended tram route.
I think the upper one can work because they can do a stop to unload in unsecured area than move forward and load in secured area.
Also the unsecured area would serve as queue space for security lines.

It will be interesting to see how things are configured because of escalators

I just read an article about Disney FY 16 earnings and it mentioned that a Toy Story Playland is coming to DLR. Has anyone else heard about this?

That's for Shanghai Disneyland, construction already started

"Those comments followed an announcement Wednesday that the company’s latest park, Shanghai Disneyland, would add a new themed area based on Toy Story with three attractions and a character greeting area. Toy Story Land — versions of which are also being built in Orlando and California — is scheduled to open in 2018 in Shanghai."

I'm unfamiliar with the historical accuracy of skift.com . Perhaps they just got the California part wrong?

The article says " versions of which are already being built".

We know that is incorrect because the only thing being built is Star Wars and I would be surprised to find any space large enough for a toy story land unless they find room somewhere in DCA.

We know that at some point during the DCA renovation they had considered turning Oaradise Pier i to a toy story themed land. Maliboomer was going to be themed to the para guys drop ride, Orange stinger was going to be the claw and then midway mania and screaming would have been themed to fit.

They decided to stay away from that theme

My guess is that the writer of skift.com heard wrong or misunderstood when Bob said Shanghai DISNEYLAND

Actually it doesn't. It says, "Versions of which are also being built in Orlando and California", which could be interpreted as Disney intends to build a TS Playland in Anaheim. Note this is stated after she says SDL is getting a version of its own. I'm not disagreeing that maybe she has her facts wrong, but it's pretty clear that the writer is speaking specifically about DLR and not Shanghai. Considering that no one seems to know anything about it I'll assume that it was written in error.

It's an error. :)

I was just referencing to the words being built as if the writer is saying that it's already in progress but of all the projects being built now on are toy story related.
Who knows maybe the writer knows something we don't and the rumor fantasyland expansion might be toy story related

Let's just hope it isn't. Lol

The concrete railroad tunnel between the huge retaining walls looks practically finished, as far as I could see from Thunder Mountain. They're rolling right along.

It appeared that the entrance was covered a few weeks ago. Could you tell if it was open?

It appeared so. The wonderful thing is construction updates are many and near between so we should see pictures soon! Some other things I noticed were:
• High-reaching steel is in place for rockwork next to the trestle as seen from Critter Country.

• Rockwork chips everywhere.

• It's still looking like Big Thunder Trail will be a tight squeeze.

• They've started framing out more of the Battle Escape pit.

From a crowd flow perspective, I imagine very few people will still walk the length of that section of Big Thunder Trail. People leaving SWE will take the egresses to the direction of the land they want to head to. People heading to Star Wars land will likewise take the closest entrance. People travelling between Fantasyland and Frontierland still have more direct routes through the Fantasy Faire or even the hub.

More people will be drawn back there thanks to Star Wars and perhaps head an inefficient/incorrect route, but I really don't see a huge uptick in foot traffic for that one section. In fact, it will be offset by nothing requiring you to travel that section of the footpath like Big Thunder Ranch did.

Hopefully they slap in some benches and it remains a very quiet area of DL.

True, and by "tight squeeze" I mean that BTMRR and DLRR will be riiiiight up against the trail, but I'm sure the walkway itself will be roomy enough.

The latest from ShesInLosAngeles, taken earlier today...

They are making huge progress on the backside of Frontierland where the Festival Arena was for the last 20 years. Obviously when they are done with Star Wars Land, there is going to be a lot more to look at along the Big Thunder Trail than a wall of trees and overgrown shrubs and some cheap tents and generic stages.
