There was this crazy poster back at LP that was 100% certain SWL was going in Simba along with a Star Wars Hotel acting as a berm. Maybe they considered it one time but I think they want another hotel over there.

I think we all know that Disney is capable of designing a park extension that would utilize Simba (think of an Indiana Jones-type queue going under the street to a show building, or a Rockin' Roller Coaster enclosed launch over the street to a show building). I just don't see Disney and Anaheim altering Disneyland Drive (West St.) again anytime in the near future.

Like you, I think things other than existing park expansion are in the cards for that area. As it is right now, there's room for a Soak City size water park. Depending on what their plans for Paradise Pier are, I could see them incorporating a nicely designed new hotel / water park there (or just more hotel property).

Personally, I’d be extremely underwhelmed with a water park.

I tend to agree. Even though they could try and take up the slack created by the loss of Wild Rivers (Irvine) I think Disney is probably reluctant to invest in a "seasonal" park. I was really just giving a comparative example of what could happen in that area.

I don't see the reason for a water park. We have the ocean. Knotts and MM have water parks but they are pretty small. Raging Waters is still pretty good. I wonder how well the Great Wolf Lodge is doing?

Putting in a water park would make sense if people were staying on-site for two-week vacations, as is common in Orlando. When you’re basically a captive audience for that long, it makes sense to have other amusements besides just the theme parks. But the demographic of Anaheim guests is wildly different (short visits, tons of locals, etc) and they are focused on the theme parks. I don’t think a water park would be a total flop, but I don’t think it would perform anywhere near the level Disney would want. I hope this isn’t even being entertained.

But the ocean has sharks and NO slides...

Technically, this is attached to the ocean:
