It's been widely reported that there will be multiple levels requiring elevators to change grade, similar to the Transformers attraction, which will of course require elevator pits for the equipment. However, I don't think that elevators (even industrial sized) would need to have pits as broad or as deep (based on the shadows) as what they're doing

I think it was @marni1971 who said that the pit would be part of the attraction's finale, which implies that it will be for some sort of special effect and/or oversized set. Given the ride's subject matter, it's not too hard for me to imagine why they might need sort of deep-but-narrow show space while attempting to escape from the Death Star...

When was it ever confirmed to be the Death Star?

Doesn't mean it's the Death Star.

Right, I don't think anyone was asserting that it was going to be on the Death Star. We were mentioning Empire-ish elements that have been on the Death Star (and also used in other stations/ships throughout the series) that could be used here.

This is the part that threw me.

Believe it or not, I actually agree with some of what you said. SW would have worked much better as a mini land on the outskirts of Tomorrowland (kind of like Toontown is to Fantasyland), and although I would mourn the loss of Autopia and the subs, I know that the area could be used better, and eventually it will. My main issue lies with the amount of land being dedicated to one IP, and the fact that this is the last available piece of land without removing any major attractions. But honestly, I kind of wish SWL went in DCA. It would have really balanced out the park attendance, and quite honestly, it would be the lesser of two evils.

I respect that, I just don't see Star Wars fitting DCA at all. It is a much better fit in Disneyland, especially since Disneyland has already had a Star Wars attraction in place for about 30 years. DCA is less fantasy-based and more rooted in the American West.

but also for managing the crowds and balancing the amount of attractions.

Fully agree. These were the two most non-emotional reasons initially put forth against the placement.

Fortunately, since last D23, there are several projects brewing/funded for DCA. Think of DCA 2.0 being the initial volley and SWE being an appropriate response from DL. This time though DCA will actually follow suit with another huge project and will wait a fraction of the 6 years it took between DCA 2.0 and Star Wars.

Marvel, I'm slowly learning, is more impressive than people think. Our hand has kind of been tipped towards Disneyland's follow-up to Marvel thanks to Tokyo's bubbling TDS Frozen plans. It kind of unfairly makes it seem like all the attention is on DL, when really we just have a lot more to learn about DCA's future.

Do you have any beans you can spill on Marvel land?

What sounds impressive? The Cap'n Coaster?

No, I don't really know things that aren't public. I just intently listen and read between the lines.

At a certain point the land got plussed in its shift from the Southern plot to the backlot/bus area thanks to the Eastern gateway project. The budget is very generous from the sounds of things. Not quite 14-acre Star Wars level, but a signature attraction that is attempting to go toe-to-toe with RSR. I'm hoping a semi-substantial secondary offering makes the cut if Monster's Inc. goes. Tower of Terror only slipped out because Spirit was attempting to get the WDW version killed, otherwise this has been fairly under wraps.

There is a heck of a lot of wasted space in the current backlot ripe to be knocked down or utilized. Right now it's kind of the thing you wander into, after this is done I think we'll consider it a land much in the same way Radiator Springs is. Just different... Finally something that isn't rock-work (no offence SWE, Pandora, Radiator Springs and NFL...)

We'll know July 15th

Ya, I'm sure it ll be better than the "theming" that exists in the backlot now. I'm just hoping for more than "big city" facades.

If we get the Mickey Dark ride in the backlot, I'm ok with the Captain Coaster being the only new attraction in Marvel Land, especially if it's the Mega E ticket we keep hearing about. Of course, a D ticket in addition would be great but it sounds like the 2 attractions mentioned above will have huge show buildings.

I agree. Plus there is not 14 acres of land available to use in DCA.

Well it wasn't really available until they leveled 14 acres of backstage area. Seems like the Simba lot would have been a lot less work and they could of connected it to DCA proper with a bridge. There must be big plans for that lot. Unless there is some reason that SWL could not have gone there that I am not aware of. That seems like it would have been the ideal situation. Would have been great to have those SWL crowds in DCA and out of Disneyland with its 1955 sized walkways.

There was this crazy poster back at LP that was 100% certain SWL was going in Simba along with a Star Wars Hotel acting as a berm. Maybe they considered it one time but I think they want another hotel over there.
