The "no autographs" rule is from Lucasfilm. TWDC lets the studio brands (mainly Lucas and Marvel) make their own rules (plus a few from the lawyers, especially how they handle Spiderman). For example, the only employees allowed in SWGE not in themed costume are management, security, guest relations (plaids), and the occasional person from facilities.
I hadn’t heard that; thanks for the info. It reminds me of how years ago, PhotoPass couldn’t take pictures of Mary Poppins or Winnie the Pooh because the contracts were being renegotiated. I found out when nobody was there to take my pic, and a nearby lead told me what was going on.

Sometimes we forget that not everything is 100% Disney, such as how Marvel is allowed to basically run its own comic books.

... not everything needs to look like it is about to break down (like ROTR does 🤣)

That was part of Lucas' original intent and aesthetic for SW. "The future should look used." It was actually a pretty ground-breaking notion at the time and it's why Tatooine looks like a sh*thole in ANH.

Having a junky-looking droid is pure Star Wars.

A junky looking static Droid that doesn't move, make a sound, have a personality, and is lying dead and rusted in a planter is pure Star Wars?

Personally, I'd like to see C3PO and R2D2 actually roaming the land, but that's just me.

Heck, I'd take ONE droid of any kind wandering the land. Is one droid moving through the land too much to ask for a 14 acre Star Wars Land? Apparently so.

But it's so immersive!!!

Despite not being gritty and run down, everything here feels pretty Star Wars to me.

are you talking about? I'm talking about Jake, who moves and makes noise.

I also said I'd love to see R2 and 3PO, but if Jake is more practical, I'd be for that, too.

Ideally, it would have both droids.

My daughters and I finally got to experience it on Monday. I live across the country and usually go to DL once every 1-2 years. Other than the shortcut it provides from Fantasyland to Splash none of us could find anything positive to say about the land.

I'll keep it short as my complaints are mostly the same as many that have already been posted here numerous times. I'll go one step further though and say that I wasn't impressed with the details and art direction that everybody is complementing. Not only did I think the buildings and rockwork look uninteresting, I felt like the grime, rust and scuff/burn marks all had a too obvious painted on look. Animal Kingdom, got it right with its buildings having a more charming "lived in" look. This place felt like an empty movie set.

This is one place where the pictures look better than reality. I think that's because of the contrasts in the painted on "depth". And the ride is straight out of Dave and Buster's and its queue is straight out of my local vocational school's auto mechanics shop. I love the rest of Disneyland and had a great day. I just have to pretend that GE isn't really a part of the park, because it doesn't fit in.

Exactly what I was going to point towards, along with the interior of Cloud City :

Now I am not saying that Disney should build a theme park that is solid white hallways but not absolutely everything needs to be dirty to feel used. My shoes are used, but they aren't falling apart being held together with duct tape. You can balance it out, you can have a droid that looks mostly new with some scuffs on it here and there from normal use, it doesn't have to look like the droid was kicked in the dirt and dragged along a pile of rocks (in a very unconvincing, cheap looking manner like with the Jake droid). Especially in a theme park, where Walt Disney made a point to make the Haunted Mansion look well kept on the outside, for example, I do understand they want to tell a story but I do think Galaxy's Edge takes the war-beaten town aesthetic a little too far, I am not complaining about the decision to choose a broken down town as the location for Galaxy's Edge, I just wish they balanced it out a bit is all.

I would've liked it better if it they took the Star Wars out of the name and just called it Galaxy's Edge or Outerland or something. Then I could think of it as an original planet that happens to have some Star Wars in it rather than a land supposed to represent the Star Wars franchise.

Finally got to go. Family and I loved it. Been a big fan of sw since I was a kid and I really liked the land. I thought the land was very detailed and i appreciate that they were trying to tell a new story with it instead of just trying to do a retelling of the movies with the rides and stuff like some of the fantasyland rides there. Favorite bit was the falcon ride but i wish the other one had been open too. I really liked the clone wars tv series too so seeing hondo again was a plus for me. The story of him looking to hire crew members to use the falcon to smuggle coaxium for both his profit and to benefit the resistance in exchange was neat and a totally hondo thing to do. We did it a few times, got pretty good and hope they add some more options in the future. But for now, the family liked it. It felt like there was a wide enough range of positions to fit what different people wanted out of the ride and I'm glad we were in control instead of stuck behind an AA like 3PO over on Star Tours. We built two droids. They felt sturdy and worth the money, the process felt like a more nerd-y build a bear but over all a lot of fun to see them come to life. They have a lot of expression but i wish they werent sold out of usb chips for them. They were sold out of porgs and some kyber crystal colors too but they had everything else we wanted. Food was really good!! We had some kind of braised rib for dinner at the resturant there and it was really tender. Tried both milks and liked them both. We did the cantina last in the night and I was thankful someone in our party made reservations because it seemed small. But even though it was small we had a good time and really enjoyed the drinks and we didnt feel rushed or anything. Employees were nice all day and we had a few chance enounters with rey, chewie, kylo and a first order officer which was so funny that I tried to start filming but realized I never even hit the record button! Doh.. but will definitely be going back again when they open the new ride. Want to build a lightsaber really badly after holding and seeing some of the ones people were carrying around
