Too bad Anthony Daniels wasn't there. Dave Prowse (Darth Vader) could have rounded out the surviving cast but I don't think George likes him very much anymore.

Might be his complaints on not receiving royalties for Return of the Jedi. Apparently, by Hollywood accounting standards, it hasn't made any money.

"I get these occasional letters from Lucasfilm saying that we regret to inform you that as Return of the Jedi has never gone into profit, we've got nothing to send you. Now here we're talking about one of the biggest releases of all time," said Prowse. "I don't want to look like I'm about it," he said, "but on the other hand, if there's a pot of gold somewhere that I ought to be having a share of, I would like to see it."

We’re straying off topic, but I didn’t say anything about the Yavin Throne Room March relating to the Imperial March. I just said they didn’t use the Imperial March - they used the Yavin Throne Room March which is based on the Force theme.

For clarity, the Binary Sunset cue is the Force theme. That is what the Yavin Throne Room March is based on after the fanfare you referenced.

Williams identifies Luke’s theme as one in the same with the main Star Wars theme. Example: it’s played the first time we see Luke (while ain’t Beru calls for him before the purchase of the droids).

It seems like we both have an appreciation of Williams’ Star Wars score. I highly recommend checking out David W. Collins’ podcast, The Soundtrack Show. He’s done several episodes diving into the scores of ANH and ESB. Here’s a link to the first ANH episode. I learned a ton from this as David is a huge Star Wars fan and an extremely gifted musician. He also sources tons of interviews with Williams and Lucas to give more depth to the analysis. He did a similar series on another podcast years ago, but this is much more enjoyable.

To bring it back on topic - Williams’ Batuu theme is great. Weren’t there rumors of Michael Giachinno collaborating on additional music for the land, similar to how they worked together for Star Tours?
I thought this was cool

>>Not only was the disappearance of the Fox theme a blow to the opening of films in the Star Wars universe, but the studio’s absorption by Disney raises questions about whether the fanfare will live on at all. The door is technically now even reopened for Disney to add the fanfare back in ahead of Star Wars films if and when Fox returns to the fold.

The theme, originally composed in 1933 by Fox music director Alfred Newman, may have very well faded into obscurity by the 1970s had Lucas not taken a particularly liking to it. The filmmaker insisted it be played before his first Star Wars film, and a renaissance of sorts began for the fanfare.
...
When Williams was hired to compose the music for 1977’s A New Hope, one of his first courses of action was writing a main theme in the same key as Newman’s fanfare. The combination struck a chord (pun intended) with audiences and fans of the series so deeply that the fanfare was included on releases of the Star Wars special edition re-release in the late 1990s and the Ultimate Edition score to 1999’s The Phantom Menace.

I think it was also that Prowse gave away the fact that Darth Vader was Luke's father. He's also still mad that he didn't get to be the face character for Vader when Luke removed his helmet. He didn't know they were going to do that and he wasn't invited to the set.

Anyone surprised that we didn't get a special SWGE fireworks show last night? According to DL's Calendar, last night was the only night Mix Magic didn't have pyro. I figured that the Mix Magic pyro would be used for the dedication.

Well they did the traditional, pyro from behind the new land after the dedication shtick.

I think Mark was
DisneyParksLive always had awkward showings. Especially the hosts at WDW.

It was a perfect example of how Iger doesn’t understand the legacies of the company he operates (Disney) or the ones he’s purchased, such as Lucasfilm.

My favorite moments were watching Iger get visibly annoyed and flustered each time someone cheered, and hearing Harrison and Mark go off-script.

The Disney Parks blog folks always look like they’re anchoring a high school TV station. They added to the SWGE awkwardness.

It kinda makes you long for the grand openings at the two American castle parks, Epcot, and the Studios. Here’s a video of the Studios’ opening day.

That said, my friends who’ve been inside keep raving about how amazing it is. I can’t wait to see it later this year.

I thought it was a nice event. George didn’t seem as enthusiastic as I had hoped. Mark and Billy Dee were great... and Harrison being there was a delightful surprise. I love that he dedicated it to Peter.
To be fair, George has been on the film sets for the original three plus his prequels. This theme park land probably isn’t too thrilling for him, since he lived and breathed SW for years.

I do share your surprise that he didn’t act a little more enthusiastic for the fans.

I hope the immersion is going to be excellent, but it's going to be hard to truly be immersed with the stroller brigade, massive crowds and the bubble wands blowing bubbles everywhere.

Maybe if said strollers looked like this? 😁

And about the bubble wands, I don't know... we might need to use our imagination, maybe imagine that Jabba is drooling over us?! 😉

Iger understands how to build stuff and buy properties.........but he doesn't understand Disney OR Star Wars.
I wouldn't even say he understands how to build stuff (that's more the Imagineers, when allowed). He knows how to buy properties and force people to accept them as "Disney", a company he doesn't understand in the first place. The irony is thick and rich. His greatest strength is in keeping the BOD happy. That's about it.

Some of those may not fit the new Disney stroller specs.

Jabba? Who is that? Disney doesn't acknowledge the original trilogy in this new land.

When they said Star Wars Land I expected a Tatooine area with the Mos Eisley Cantina and Jabba's Palace for a sit down restaurant.
I expected Sand People running around, and Jawas and Dewbacks.
I expected to see the Lars homestead.
Instead we have a land that nobody knows anything about.

That's like make a Wizard of Oz land based around some strange part of Oz that we never even saw and not having the Lion, Tinman, Scarecrow or Dorothy there.....but still selling their outfits and stuffed Toto dolls.
Maybe your post is a bit too cynical, but several professional reviewers (i.e. not social media influencers who gush to get free swag) did point out the lack of an emotional connection.

The LA Times, CNET, Tech Crunch — even MiceChat* — pointed out that the land is incredible, immersive, and stunning, yet doesn’t hit the emotional marks except for the Millennium Falcon itself. Reasons vary from no recognizable landmarks (except the Falcon) to no recognizable background music.

I think the ROTR delayed ride will fill that gap. The stormtroopers and AT-ATs will feel like proper Star Wars, and maybe after the current trilogy hype fades away, WDI will replace Kylo with VADER — the true Big Bad people know and love to hate.

*in SoCal, that website is considered a legitimate source for theme park news

I’m trying to resist the temptation to go off-topic! I’ll just say that putting the Simpsons on Disney+ tells you everything you need to know about how much Iger understands the Disney Co.

This must have been written by those 5 internet trolls who doesn’t LOVE the great new Disney Star Wars 🤭

They don't make Disney Parks Specials like that anymore. :(

For all the complaining... at least Disney went with the original trilogy folks... and not episode 7,8 folks. Nor JJ, or Kathy, etc.. Disney went with LUCAS, somehow talked Harrison into doing it, and got MH in.

(and remember Iger tweeted photos of all THOSE people in the land first...)

Besides billy D... none of those folks really had to be there. Thank you Disney for going OG.

I thought it was funny that Lucas was more fixated on Smuggler's Run than the entire land presentation... He definitely looked like the inlaws at the party tho.

To be fair the land very closely resembles Tatooine architecture. As someone who has played so many SW video games, it reminds me a lot of visiting a little town in Star Wars Galaxies back in the day. The Falcon anchors it into the OT. Chewie is just stopping here to work with Hondo. If you’ve watched Clone Wars or Rebels then you would be delighted to see Hondo!

I think they nailed it.
