CM discounts are likely to be motivated by a variety of objectives, don't you think? It doesn't seem like that offer is going to reliably fill rooms, so I don't think that was the only goal of the discount.
What other goal would there be for introducing a discount than for a CM or CM and their guests to occupy rooms?

This post got me wondering if it would make more sense as a DVC property.

Rather than needing 10,000 Star Wars mega fans every year who are able and willing to spend $5,000 they’d just need to find 10,000 mega fans once who are willing to spend $25k for a contract and then a couple hundred a month in fees.

The Star cruiser would be a lot easier to keep full that way.
It’s not a dvc either…
Who buys dvc?

Nobody is saying that you can't judge for yourself if you like something or if it'd be worth your money.
I'm saying that if you haven't done it, your opinion is uninformed by the experience itself. It makes sense that the opinion of someone who's been in the Starcruiser is more valuable than that of some guy who's never done it but posts over and over how dumb it is. How is this controversial (or worthy of snark)?

I think most of us figured from the beginning that the Starcruiser was expensive and expected that they'd lower the price eventually. I suppose that indicates to you that the whole thing was a "screw-up?"
The whole “itinerary” has been online for a year…

It’s not Star Wars. That is evident from the page.

I expect Disney to get it wrong - their management of Star Wars has been almost laughably bad…

But you don’t back it. That doesn’t make it “right”

They know fhey crashed the most anticipated sequels in the history of the planet…and they’re not even pretending they didn’t. Doesn’t mean you can “wish” it not to be so…

I think Disney management has shown major hubris ever since getting their hands on this property.

…like for instance telling a screen writer of a movie that had been dreamed about for say…30 years….
…that they can’t use the main character that was the backbone of the entire $100 billion dollar merched franchise?
Cause “he’d steal the show”…

Not sure if “hubris” fits? 🤔

CM relations, morale and (unfortunately,) contract negotiations.
They're offering this to people making $35k a year at MOST in 2023 money. I'm sure if you're 21, are living off Monster and ramen, and just got that first credit card and are raring to make your first big financial mistake it's fine but who else is going to see this as a morale booster?

Obviously this CM discount isn’t going to provide great benefit to lower-paid frontline workers. Don’t you think Disney knows this?

But my point is that this ISN’T some tremendous help to CMs. It seems obvious to me that it’s part of a broader PR move on Iger’s part to try to boost morale and so they can say, “look at all the benefits we give our CMs!” All he had to do was walk through the parks with D’Amaro and CMs were swooning. Add in a few more perks and discounts (that actually cost Disney nothing), and it will add up to some goodwill/morale boost among CMs and some great publicity with the general public.

Or were you guys under the impression that Disney was thinking CMs were going to be a tremendous new source of Starcruiser bookings?

It's terrible PR, though! Going by social media reaction, the message that Disney heads got was that the company will do anything to keep from passing profits down to employees. Nobody saw this as an actual nice thing.

I’m not saying it’s working. And of course there will be some negative responses on social media. But why else would they have announced this?

It’s not for union negotiating tactics…lol

It’s an amusing idea though…I give you credit for that.
You don’t think Disney will use this (combined with a handful of other “perks,” “benefits,” and “discounts”) to try to signal appreciation of CMs?

I’m not saying they’re going to put “”50% discount on the Starcruiser experience”) on contracts. But if you think this isn’t part of a PR campaign, what is the purpose of it?

I saw CMs posting about it--a few were interested but some were leery of taking any proposed discounts or perks because it would give the wrong signal about pay. Those who were interested seemed to be more influencer types/had a well-off partner in the mix.

I think the sinking of the Star Cruiser is on par with that of the Titanic. Hubris led to both hitting giant icebergs and sinking. The Starcruiser is dying faster than the Odyessy from Apollo 13.
Saw a couple threads on the pay negotiations. i hope the cast members get a raise as they put up with a lot of S#$! from visitors now that Ive never seen before.
The startcruiser while maybe great in someones mind, this had no chance and they are forgetting why people come to WDW. You have a lot of peoople coming from the north and midwest to be in the fl sun and have fun with their families. spending thousands on flights to come to FL to go inside for 2 days and at that price???? My 14 nephew could tell you that would fail and btw he had no interestin in going to that. If you wanted to put this concept in say NYC it would work but not here. weather too nice most of the time to be locked inside for 2 days straight.

It’s not Star Wars. That is evident from the page.

The problem with this, and perhaps it's a failure of marketing, is that the public itinerary shares so little of what the experience actually is. If you're playing sabacc or racing droids, you are missing the point, and misusing your time. Same goes with the ryloth dance video that everyone insists on posting as indicative of the experience. Those are filler activities, designed for people who do not want to engage in the story, or need a quick break.

I was expecting to learn sabacc, participate in the tournament, etc. But after playing a couple of quick hands in the lounge when I first boarded, I realized that there wasn't time enough for that sort of thing. And the activities that I was choosing to do instead were way more fun than pretending to be Lando at the card table.

I'm not going to argue over the price/value proposition. It was the best experience I've ever had in WDW (over 15+ trips), and I would recommend it to anyone. If the price scares you, I'd recommend going to do just this, instead of making your 10th 5-day visit to the parks.
