The problem with this, and perhaps it's a failure of marketing, is that the public itinerary shares so little of what the experience actually is. If you're playing sabacc or racing droids, you are missing the point, and misusing your time. Same goes with the ryloth dance video that everyone insists on posting as indicative of the experience. Those are filler activities, designed for people who do not want to engage in the story, or need a quick break.

I was expecting to learn sabacc, participate in the tournament, etc. But after playing a couple of quick hands in the lounge when I first boarded, I realized that there wasn't time enough for that sort of thing. And the activities that I was choosing to do instead were way more fun than pretending to be Lando at the card table.

I'm not going to argue over the price/value proposition. It was the best experience I've ever had in WDW (over 15+ trips), and I would recommend it to anyone. If the price scares you, I'd recommend going to do just this, instead of making your 10th 5-day visit to the parks.
I have probably 50 7+ day trips there…after working…and the wedding…and the spur of the moment timeshare buy…

It’s not the price. At least not in that context. It’s a value proposition for me. It’s gotta have it or I’m not gonna support it.

Unfortunately I’m one of those annoying people that actually gets the appeal of Star Wars…so that means I’m not a executive at the Walt Disney company…so it’s not for me as is.

But I’ll watch to see if they can sell this “experience” nonsense? More power to them…let’s see if they can keep the doors open?

Really failing to square this statement with anything else you say. You get the appeal of Star Wars, so an immersive experience in that world is not for you? You'd rather just stay in a resort with Star Wars statues and wall decorations (theming) all over the place?

The trouble with the experience is that it's difficult to market what it really is without spoiling story elements in the process. Any concrete example of an activity involving the characters would inherently give something away, which is why the itinerary reads so milquetoast.

Unexpected Story Moment
For example, you might:
  • Prove your mettle to join an elite smuggling ring?
  • Hide a stowaway to help the Resistance?

The above is a true statement of things you can do, but it doesn't describe any of what you actually do in the process.

Disney has pooched the property…hard.

Didn’t want to say it…but if you’re gonna pry, I’ll tell you.

Now I didn’t WANT it that way…I thought there’s NO WAY they could make such obvious and horrible mistakes…but when you have really bad management, can’t rule anything out.

In fact…I was very supportive at first. I remember the announcement…it was a day after hurricane Sandy blew through New York…and it seemed like a Match. They appeared to be on the right path for a couple of years. But that was a mirage.

So that probably is “it”, huh?

As far as Disney parks, resorts, products go…been studying that just as long. I can tell what is good and what is not immediately. And I want the good. But unfortunately I’m not very susceptible to the “experience” psychological coercion stuff. I used to dabble in it. I know why they feed it to you…but I also know it’s a product and has a price. Stick with the latter and everyone is better off.

Again…we’ll see where this goes? Not a lot of excuses for not being able to sell it 10 months in.
“Elaborate misunderstanding” is a new one…I’ll grant you that 👍🏻

I guess the nuclear option is just ditch the entire cruise concept and make it straight deluxe. Have the dining experience become a TS and QS be accessible via shuttle from the park. Problem solved.
Actual hotel? really don't think so. Maybe an overnight (sleep over) experience on a Galactic Imperial Prison Ship. Don't need to worry about a lot of amenities then! accommodating rebel scum for an evening.

I’ve noticed the trend that many (most?) people who have done the Starcruiser seem to like it and many (most?) of the people who repeatedly post negatively about it have not actually done it.

And because we don’t have access to information like occupancy rates, operating costs, etc., some opinions are more informed than others.
You've also got people running around screeching joyously of its failure because (checks notes) castmembers are getting a discount?

uh, what?

Until they shutdown for weeks, cut storylines/characters, or (gasp) cut the price to the public what's changed from the beginning? The literal easiest thing for them to do is cut the normal price and they haven't done that.
They have blocked out shut dates in the summer…the are doing 50% employee discounts…they’ve been doing 30% ones across the board…including that weird “pay the equivalent of 30% less points” dvc thing…

You follow? And if you do…explain it to lurking Pengs, please? 😎

if you can find them doing 30% discounts for the public across the board you're doing better than me.

The DVC stuff is little different than what they do with cruises or non-DVC.

Yes.

Some have questioned why there are so many that seem to be rooting for this to fail. For me, I view this as a trend not dissimilar to video games - your $60 purchase is just the admission; if you want to do anything else you either pay up or grind away your time. That same trajectory is now obvious with the Disney experience.

The DLC-ification of WDW is a worrisome trend. It’s clear they put a lot of what was intended to go into SW:GE behind the SW:GS paywall. SW:GE’s biggest loss Is the sense of it being incomplete and lacking any vibrancy or true other-worldliness. SW:GE suffers as a result.

This analogy doesn't work, though. I work in software, and games are way, way, way undervalued at $60. They've held that $50-$60 price point for over 20 years (what does the CPI say they should be today instead?), and this is the market-acceptable way that software companies have found to make the money that they should have been making all along.

In early January they bombarded social media and tv with discount offers.

But let’s move on. Just buy it…pay up.

Because nobody’s better…you can’t put a price on magic…and it’s an “experience”…not a product.

Let’s just get to it 👍🏻😎
