Given the negative reaction to the price...Should we be surprised Disney isn't offering some no cost, or low cost extras?
I'm shocked that it's not the opposite...so far.

I can't believe that there isn't an entire menu of "add ons" - $200 exclusive pack of action figures based on the crew, $300 lunches with Rey, $495 costume packages.

I have no doubt, it's coming.

Imagineering fans tend to say a lot of the same things…just saying
Fair enough. Put me whatever category you want. I’m just saying judge it based on what it‘s supposed to be, not what it clearly never intended to be.

There’s plenty of reasons to NOT like this. But the fact that the Starcruiser doesn’t do bicycle rentals like they do at Old Key West isn’t one of them.

Unfortunately you picked the two worst movies to use as “proof”
I KNEW you were going to say something about that! LOL.

But where is “luxury’ in the OT? Cloud City on Bespin, maybe?

Closer…that had a kinda “raw”/sterile look to it that was unique for its time. If they could pull that off consistently it’s would work.

The frumpy costumes on college program are gonna make that hard

And I didn’t make those turds…just can’t polish them either 😎

Fair…problem is even the low experience PR department now can’t be consistent on what it’s supposed to be. I’m not sure anyone knows?

The biggest issue I have with the theming is Disney’s decision to cast the Halcyon as having been “restored.” The Star Wars universe aesthetic is consistently a “lived-in“ appearance, even in palaces and government buildings. The costumes/uniforms are part of that.

The Starcruiser looks new in a way that makes it look less Starwarsy.

Disney trying to “expand the universe” has gone pretty terrible across the board. Their only successful efforts are tied directly to the OT or the EU after the prequels at this point.

Dave Filoni’a big brain.

This new thing is probably likely the same…go off the ethos and call it Star Wars

I hope I’m wrong…as usual around here

With 20/20 hindsight I think Disney boxed themselves in here trying to "constrain" themselves to a Star Wars-era aesthetic which, I think has been rightfully pointed out here, doesn't exist in the universe proper because it's never been seen.

In that sense, the sky was the limit and they could've used their cruise ship designers to design luxurious sci-fi settings with real technological wow-factors rather than only try to re-express what we've seen in Star Wars.

(or maybe that's what they thought they were doing?)

I don't think this is just a Star Wars problem - Disney parks creations have been pretty consistently a MISS for the past several years. (Rivers of Light, new Epcot show with the stargate, retheming Maelstrom to Frozen, destruction of future world, detheming the resorts, etc; )

It is all an interesting time for the themed entertainment perspective.

Theme Parks have always been living theater when Themed Entertainment is done right and breaks the fourth wall.
This is just one where you sleep over in its accommodation and have prepaid for the meals. Even going back to Hoop De Doo with the inclusive eating and meta humor/performing of the actors portraying an acting troupe in the rustic style shows you will find near Yellowstone. I am not dissing it, but the living theater thing is not really new, as that is what live entertainment has been in theme parks for a long time now.

The fact that many Facebook groups are of strangers meeting as fans to save money to be able to go is certainly interesting.

I wonder how long before they get to the point where lower bookings get them to introduce a new story where Vader and The Empire are there, and it is a prequel story of the cruise.

I agree with you…but two separate issues.

Park projects/resorts have lost their edge for about 10 years. In reality…only the “meddling” of James Cameron has managed to deliver anything.

I wouldn't mind having lunch with Rey....but seriously unless it's like a regular character dining (which storyline wise wouldn't make sense), it would be awkward to be in character for an hour with a single family or group

Have no kids yet and watching all the videos you can see that the whole “experience” seems fun but was clearly aimed at young children. My wife and I realized that, although fans of SW, if we went there we would feel like real aliens. It's a kind of mixed feelings of love and hate right now.
…so like pool games at Saratoga?

I know I've repeated this a lot since looking at the preview art/photos, but it seems clear to me that the primary audience is young families with kids. That makes a lot more sense to me, honestly, than going for the adult super fan market who will honestly be close to impossible to please in large numbers. I would wager there are a lot more of those families around with disposable cash and they're probably easier to motivate to spend their cash on something like this. I mean, if anyone knows how to convince parents to drop huge sums of money to give their kids a once-in-a-lifetime experience, it's Disney.

That doesn't mean it's not designed to also accommodate adults without kids, but I think they are probably expected more to round out the numbers on the cruises once this gets going thank to be the primary audience. Also wouldn't be surprised to see it skew more Disney Adult than Star Wars Adult.
