I've been wondering if they should have just let hype drive the marketing for the first month or two of voyages. Then, instead of the cringe video they released, they should have requested the initial set of cruises (or even one of these test cruises) to allow for video recording for marketing purposes. I don't want to get into arguments whether the experience will be good or not, or if the guests should be the driver of that experience, but I do think they lost a bit of ambience and energy that can only be obtained with actual people going through the experience. Things felt so sterile and you could focus on the negative space.
So all of a sudden they forgot how to advertise?

there’s reasons/limitations behind all this…have no doubt.

I think we’ll know soon

A Facebook group is reporting that there are emergency exits in each room behind the “space window” which can drop down apparently. This seems insane to me. If true why would the do this?
Sure but when I stay at a hotel in Chicago 35 floors up, the windows don’t open so what is their second way?
The building and fire codes are more like a Choose Your Own Adventure and not a singular set of rules. All sorts of variables such as the use of the spaces in the building, the size of the building, the location of the building, the construction materials and so on and so forth all determine what criteria you have to meet, what you must do and a myriad of exceptions that apply. The life safety requirements of the bungalows, longhouses and lobby building at the Polynesian Village are all different even though all three have hotel rooms at the same place.

In general, a smaller building has fewer / less stringent requirements than a larger building. Your window on the 35th floor hotel room is not a means of escape. There are limits on how how the windows can serve as a means of escape based on height above the ground and fire fighter access to the window. In lieu of the window other means of protection are required such as automatic sprinklers, distance to an exit, and how long the walls between the hallways and the rooms can resist fire. Galactic Starcruiser has to have the escape windows because they are required in rooms below the fourth floor by the EPCOT Building Code (822.5) and Florida Building Code (1030).

I'll be honest, I don't know what the answer is. I just think it felt very sterile. Some of that is the actual build that we saw of the hotel (elevator area with large white walls). Some of that is that there were like 5 people in the entire shoot. It was your typical cringe Disney tour with a celebrity that tried too hard but failed to provide what actual ambience will entail.

Forget when it aired, when was that shot? And is it really impossible that there weren’t decorative elements remaining to install? The curved trim that gives a space a Star Wars Look seems possible along with miscellaneous wall greeblies. We’ll see soon enough.

Do you scoff and roll your eyes at every theme park simulator you 'ride'? Because you're in a box and either they shake you or the box. The end.
Can't tell whether your reply is sarcasm to the sarcasm of @jinx8402 's response. Or, if you thought his was serious and yours was the only sarcastic response. Or, are both of you serious?

It's all very meta to me...

I was definitely be sarcastic. I was one of the "defenders" a week or so ago when pics of the box truck came out and that it makes absolutely 0 difference to the experience.

To be fair, I don't post often and mostly lurk with some comments here and there, so my track record isn't exactly established.

That's certainly possible.

If that's the case, though, it's an even bigger failure by the marketing department. They should have been clear that it was still a work in progress.

And why would the marketing be approved? And if that was the case, now that we are weeks away from opening, why are they still showing concept art instead of the actual interior? It's possible, but I'd be surprised.

Because they want to put their best foot forward with this. And right now, the concept art *is* their best foot. Once people have paid they don't care, because...

I believe that we have to keep in mind that much of the immersion is due to the use of screens, be they in the bedrooms, halls, control room, etc. Screens are difficult items to photograph, sometimes photos are well below reality, others after image treatment can be above what is experienced in loco, both situations can ruin the surprise of the first guests…

That Abraham Lincoln quote might apply here “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”

Anticipation and questioning of quality may be their biggest marketing asset right now. *If* issues are as bad as reported, why show it off to potential customers that may be interested until word is forced out on its own. *If* not than their just playing the straight up mystery of the experience card for sales.
