Star Wars Ep. 9 Thread

"El Gran Magnifico"

Mr Flibble is Very Cross.
What I'm kind of noticing from reading some of the reviews and some of the takes - It appears that although RoS does have some fan service - it is just not the right kind and in the right amount to truly satisfy (nor make up for TLJ) the hardcore fan. It also is apparently p*ssing off the TLJ fans because it does to TLJ - what TLJ did to TFA.

The way I'm reading (interpreting) this - at this point - is that this movie will not bridge any gaps between the hardcore fan and TLJ supporter. In fact it it makes the gap wider (if that's even possible). I'll be interested to read the reviews from the audience reaction.

Just to know there are some “hardcore” fans that liked TLJ. Hardcore fans and TLJ supporters are not mutually exclusive. RoS just sounds like a plain bad movie (bad pacing, bad script, etc.) regardless of if it is a Star Wars movie or not.

I too am a Star Wars fan for life since 1977 and on board with TLJ. I resented its wokeness, and the movie is a dragged out Battlestar Galactica episode. But Ryan Johnson had better ideas than JJ.

Star Wars isn't Marvel. Luke really doesn't ride out and fight the entire First Order. A sadder, older, wiser Luke makes sense. And why would he go in hiding for years, let his friends die off and the Republic he helped install fall, only to rescind at the first sight of some unknown showing up? Luke's fate was already sealed by TFA.

Very, very early, and perhaps statistically useless at this point. But we have a good audience score right now.

All the heroes got a pretty sad ending to their lives. Han left Leia, Leia became a war general who's husband(boyfriend I dunno) left her, and Luke became depressed over failing his sister and nephew. His fate didn't have to be sealed, in the book it says Luke was going to go with Rey, until he saw Rey and Kylo skyping... that's what I heard atleast

I saw it. It was good. Much more enjoyable than TLJ as both a movie and a Star Wars.
Better than the last crap, good Star Wars (the bar is so low now) and good movie are all very different things.

Expected that based on the critics comments...they don’t want to support retcon or old formulas...

Yet they still took the money from Disney and acted like 7 was good.

Remember that the Star Wars diehards are the only ones coming out of the shows now. The success and lasting financial pull comes from casual fans that become fringe Star Wars followers.

Can this do that?

Said this in the other thread but I’ll say it here... I’m probably going to get crucified for saying this...but I didn’t just like the movie I LOVED IT! ...I could go further on my love for this movie but I’m sure people on this thread will politely remind me how much of a jerk I am for loving this movie. Seriously one of my favorites (Could be too early to tell but I loved it that much). ...I’m ready for the backlash coming my way

I will say the middle act is pretty decent. The first act is a convoluted series of fetch quests. The finale is just a "what were they thinking" level of disaster.

This is what happens when you hire the writer of Justice League and Batman v Superman to tackle the self-proclaimed "final act of the Star Wars saga".
on that note, did anyone else think of "save Martha!" when Kylo was about to kill Rey?

There is a spoiler thread to go to so you don’t have to use the tag in this one.

I got out of the film and we enjoyed it. It does throw TLJ under the bus and feels more like a direct sequel to TFA.

Just what you want a trilogy to be - constantly at war with itself.
