Star Wars Ep. 9 Thread

Then why did Disney and JJ pander to them for Rise of Skywalker by pretending TLJ never happened?

I think you have a situation where JJ didn’t use the Lucas Treatment and created his own Trilogy story. Upsetting some people.
R Johnson didn’t use JJ’s story and did his own. Upsetting some people.
JJ came back and continued his own story, not following R.Johnson. Upsetting some people.

Great recipe for everyone getting mad and turning away from the story.
no game plan.

Starting to wonder if George knew what was up and not being at the premiere was his own decision.

Was Rian at the premiere? I notice hes been odly quiet on twitter but then IGN put out an article about him talking about how fan service is bad which is bizzare. Why are they interviewing Rian and not JJ lol

I‘m with you. Fire can only burn so bright for so long. Lucas was on fire in the 80’s...but never the same after the divorce.
Brian Wilson is still writing music but he isn’t creating the next Smile album anymore.

Lucas was still making some solid choices with hiring guys like Dave Filoni, bringing to life the Clone Wars animation, working on the Underworld series that eventually spawned Solo, Rogue one, Mandarlorian.
He also did the 50 page sequel treatment with Michael Arendt.
Gave the keys to the kingdom to K. Kennedy. I thought that was a great move at the time, have to see how that plays out.

Lucas obviously still had a passion for Star Wars and where he wanted Star Wars to go in to the future, why he sold I’ll never know. He didn’t need the money and he has lost forever the keys to the Star Wars Sandbox. He will never be able to play in that universe again. Sad, look back and he was the driving force.
I believe Lucas will be missed but maybe Filoni is the guy who should be next in line.
we shall see
The story of what actually happened was pieced together when iger’s book came out

Bingo

My belief is that spielberg showed to support Kennedy and Abrams...knowing what was coming

Lucas didn’t go...knowing what was coming

And then they met for breakfast the next morning and laughed their butts off

Best way to move forward would be to move far away from this timeline. Allow me to make a pitch: Old Republic, Kevin Feige producing, Favreau and Filoni writing/directing, starring Keanu Reeves as a master Jedi taking on an apprentice and yes it can be a female.

Let the money roll in.
Favreau should stay far away from directing a Star Wars film.

He’s a good storyteller, but he has limited visual flair for one of these kinds of projects.

He was smart to leave directing to more visually ambitious directors.

I did say co direct with Filoni. Maybe we should go for the Russos then 😉

“Brought to you by the directors of Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame, and written by the creative team that brought you The Mandalorian” is a surefire way to get excited butts back in seats after the train wreck that seems inevitable tomorrow when we combine the reviews with the plot leaks which have all been proven true.

You do know the Russos brothers last film they were attached to flopped right.

Already I'm seeing people predict it will flop/under-perform financially because of the mixed reviews and are comparing it to Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Reading through a lot of these reviews, positive and negative, I'm noticing a growing theme of people saying this movie is now making them question why they liked Star Wars to begin with, or in worse cases, fall outta love with the franchise completely. I'm still going this weekend, but am very worried.

An example from the Washington Post:
I deliberately avoided everything. From cinema trailers down to even GE threads here.

I saw the entire ST today. A movie marathon. RoS is no better or worse than the other two. All three sequels are problematic, all have their moments. Mild spoilers: JJ really tried too hard to emulate the OT. If FA was episode IV redone, RoS is ep. VI redone. I disliked it both times.
But there is greatness in RoS too. The fan pandering is in your face, but I lapped it all up like a hungry puppy. Uneasy storylines and characters got dealt with. And it was an emotional ride too. I was happy R2 was there.

It's odd to think that OT > PT > ST. How could Disney have messed this up? Any fan had a better overall story treatment up his sleeve. There can be forty more SW movies and five hundred streamed series. But there was only one shot at this trilogy, at the Skywalker saga. The heart of Star Warsdom. One opportunity with the original cast, with Lucas if wanted, John Williams. They by and large blew it.
