Star Wars Ep. 9 Thread

Well now you guys have made me compare who really made for a more compelling lead character- whiny Luke who whines about not being able to waste time with his friends, or scrappy Rey who's life is lonely and hard, yet manages to cling to hope and kindness.

Seriously, show anyone who hasn't seen a Star War Luke's intro vs Rey's and ask whose story they'd want to follow.

Luke longs for more starring off at the beautiful twin suns vs Rey hard at work cleaning scraps as she looks at the aged lady opposite her- a glimpse at a likely future. One becomes engaging through cinematography, the other engages through performance. Luke reeks of a sense of bitter entitlement- happy to abandon what little family he has. Rey strives for better through hard work and perseverance though her deepest desire is for a return to family.

Luke was always just the skin of an onion. He had conviction and charm, but lacked humility and depth. Last Jedi finally peeled away a few of those superficial layers back a bit and I found him a far more interesting character.

I'm not saying Rey's the best. Obi-Wan is. Rey is only second best. And I've been saying that since Force Awakens and I say that as a lifelong fan. I have found Rey/Daisy an immensely compelling character and I can't wait to see what's in store for her and all the rest.

Anyway, what happened to Rey's bread being available at Galaxy's Edge? Also, why no Moof milk?

It was a really good intro but too bad it went downhill after that and she went through none of trials Luke did like actual training and losing to the main villain because he went in thinking he was ready when in fact he wasn’t. The second Rey starts using the force she’s already at peak performance. It’s BORING. There’s never a need to worry about her because we know she’ll be fine except of course when she met Snoke but that didn’t last very long did it?

Luke may have started as a whiner but we saw him grow over 3 movies into a Jedi Knight. Rey hasn’t had a similarly compelling arc.

@sedati

Luke’s journey mimicked the B-movie and comic book heroes that “inspired” Lucas. Even Peter Parker was a smart-aleck nerd before getting bitten by a certain spider.

And here’s moron with a most stupid statement than usual:

Just imagine. If he directed Endgame, we wouldn’t have had this.

And all the love and cheer that came with it.

The man is a god damn hack and I hope his trilogy either never comes or bombs spectacularly. He should stick to artsy movies if this is what he values, not big franchises. Screw him.

^Endgame is a terrible movie though...
Sure buddy. Sure it is.

As a stand-alone, yeah. As part of the series, I thought it was okay. I tend to mentally grade movies on a letter scale, and anything better than a B is enjoyable. I think the most recent movie that blew me away was the Japanese anime “Your Name.” Guess what hack is making the live-action American version. :(

JJ the great.
