Star Wars Ep. 9 Thread

I never said everything in these videos is always 100% false. There has to be some grain truth or believability to act as bait for these videos. I'm simply pointing out that there's an agenda (sometimes hidden, other times in plain sight) that generally drives most of these Star Wars drama channels. They massively embellish these small grains of truth they stumble across (adding in subjective opinions or wild speculation pawned off as fact) to a point where there's little to no truth even left of whatever there was to begin with. It is likely that JJ was asked to "fix things", given that TLJ failed to earn as much money as TFA. That isn't saying TLJ "flopped" either, but corporate culture demands increasingly larger successes with sequels. But regardless, doesn't take these youtube tabloid videos to figure out that Disney went with JJ again in hopes he'll be a safer bet for profits than Rian or Colin, that's the "grain of truth".

A serious problem with these sorts of youtubers (well one of them, there are a lot of serious problems with them) is they aren't entering into a topic with a clean unbiased mind by any stretch of the imagination. They're starting with a conclusion and are working backwards from this conclusion to fit a narrative. Their conclusion being that "women and SJWs are bad and ruin everything". This is the basis for any topic they approach (even if they don't know or care much about the topic itself). Automatically embracing this as the cause of the problem without any objectivity or further analysis. Hence the many videos just brazenly titled "women/feminism/SJWs are ruining Star Wars". It really stinks up the conversation.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying. But this part I think you are off. Yes, Kennedy didn't get fired and no one will ever really know the truth. But the roots of these reports weren't nonsence. If you add things up, where there is smoke, there's fire. I believe they wanted Kennedy out and couldn't get a suitable replacement. They extended her through 9 because that was the lesser of 2 evils. I find it interesting that we have no idea what the direction of cinematic star wars is. By this time, the next trilogy should be known if Kennedy was going to be the one in charge of it. But they can't really afford to scrap more plans, so why announce anything until Kennedy has gone on to exciting new endeavors and Disney wishes her all the best.
I don't buy it. I'm certain she met with Iger and other executives to discuss production issues, but I doubt her position was ever actually under significant threat. I don't see the pieces or any smoke. I'm also again not giving any credence to a handful of youtube randos with a clear bias/agenda and no credible source.

When I watched these videos the only women they didn’t like were Rey and Rose. They always wondered why they couldn’t make good female characters like Leia, Mara Jade, Ahsoka, etc. in this trilogy. Also they liked the movie Wonder Woman.

I stopped because I got tired of having to keep up with all of them lol.

The shocking thing is that with that “extension” after nearly 6 months of silence....Disney has NEVER acknowledged it. To this day. Find the press release, interview or statement of faith that Iger/Disney issued for her?

You won’t. How did the news break? Leaked to Hollywood reporter. By whom? That’s the question.

In fact...Iger has not commented on Kennedy or Johnson in any aspect since that movie has opened.

Anyone is free to do the research...but I just did it for you.

Now...you want to know how Hollywood works? The heads of studios either come out and support the embattled...or dangle and ultimately dismiss.

Follow what happened with Tom Rothman at Sony...and Geoff Johns and Jon berg at Warner.

Endgame had reshoots within two weeks of release. Avengers famously shot the schawarma tag after the premiere. Par for the course with these huge and complicated films.
We’re 55 days out and we’ve all called the bets at this point.

Noting left but for us to wait for the flop/reveal. Let’s see their cards

I saw a huge space battle with ships Disney had previously dismissed as not necessary and/or had man boy destroy for fun...like...a lot of them. And horses galloping ontop of a star destroyer in a fight...You can get the abacus to do some math on that for me 🤯

This is gonna be a smorgasbord of retcon for fan service...hell - some of it might even work?

Get your popcorn.

At this point...this is 100% about the public’s faith in the studio - Disney this time - to deliver something on the upswing.

Welcome to March, 2005

That's the great part about a discussion forum, you can put the pieces together one way and I another. I don't believe her job was under any significant threat either. We just have different reasons as to why. I believe they offered Kennedys position to multiple people and got turned down. So if they couldn't get anyone to take the job, you sure as heck aren't firing the person you have.

While I do believe politics are playing a good part in the making of these movies, and the fact that people who don't like it, get all sorts of derogatory names called at them... I slowed down on watching these guys because they dont like anything star wars.. like you know anything that comes out, they will hate.. I may not like Disney star wars, but I can find the good in them and highlight that. I like galaxy's edge even though there are routes I believe they should have gone down... TLJ on the other hand... I just dont like

It appears right now that this will be the lowest opening according to at least one website:

That’s a $1.4 billion dollar “disaster”...in the whacky world we live.

And I think they might even be optimistic.

But it will almost be the confirmation of karma...as you don’t crap on luke skywalker

They came at the king...and missed.

Well it’s one site. If this becomes a trend I’ll actually be surprised.

I don’t think it’s anything close to definitive...

But what really interesting is they are making their tracking to be a “good” thing. If they’re right, Kennedy is likely fired before the ball drops in Times Square

Kennedy has done a horrible job managing this property.
There's great books and documentaries about the "magic" of filmmaking. There are many ups and downs along the way for good and bad films alike. We're just watching it in real time. I for one enjoy seeing the process, and really don't see the difference from how many of my favorite films came to be. Smooth sailing doesn't mean your headed for a great destination, and rocky roads often lead to interesting places.

Seems the Benioff and Weiss films have been put on hold due to time restraints:

Honest question: do you think Kennedy is managing anything at this point?

There’s little to indicate - based on now 2 years of events - that she’s in control of really anything.

She’s there for stability...and basically on “probation”

With this admission...that means there are ZERO Star Wars movies in development. It’s just impossible to fully comprehend that.

And it sure makes it look like the decks have been cleared for the next move...which doesn’t appear to involve Kennedy at all.

I’ll remind: Disney never officially acknowledged that her contract was “extended”...and we know no details.

She’s just playing out the string. Theory

More coverage...but with a different spin than Deadline.
More “treverrow”...it would appear.

They grew up as Star Wars fans and it inspired them to become film makers. Star Wars (the OT) is the great mythology of our time. They want us to believe it's because of "not enough hours in the day". LOL!
