Star Tours, Princesses, Mermaid, DC gate, Pop Century, and more... Oh My!

I've had one of my armchair imagineering ideas for awhile. And that is to move the carousel to the large circular plaza to the right of the American Adventure and give it a heavy "Americana" overlay. It would add energy and kinetics to the AA area between shows which it desperately needs.

Oh, goodness, no.:zipit:  I know this is opinion vs opinion, but...Why?

EPCOT doesn't need the carnival feel like MK sometimes shows.

Also, the AA Courtyard is so peaceful, great BGM, scenery, and live music from the VoJ or the AGT. Why ruin the sight line of the AA with a glaring loud and light up Carousel?

So someone pretty much just put together all the rumors out there and made it into a list. Is that blog run by ReDis?

The only thing I don't see happening is Toontown going. It just doesn't seem plausible.

EDIT: And I sure hope that we don't get a Toy Story play place to replace HISTK. We've got enough TS as it is.

I thought Bugs Life was going into HISTK

Could it be possible the enchanted forest concept will be going further back behind the the grotto and back towards the railroad? I had heard at one time that they were considering adding another train station at the back of Fantasyland due north of the castle. The rumor involved a forest with snow or something. I can't remember all the details. But putting a train station there would GREATLY expand the MK. It would mean they would have to change some backstage logistics and hiding the tunnel entrances but that seems rather easy to solve.

how about the alice in wonderland ride.
I grew up with the attraction.

Matterhorn

Ok I think you guys get the point

If it was anything but a carousel I would see your point. But if you sit in that circular area I think you would agree, there is a very good chance that is what it was always intended for. The BGM would work perfectly with the attraction. So you would not lose that, only add life to a rather lifeless area.

Right now it's a giant smoking area. Peaceful? If you can call a bunch of hacking and ash tray smells "peaceful", then I see your point. :lookaroun

I did too, but the article(seriously, does anyone else get the feeling of ReDis when reading it?) says Toy Story for HISTK. I'd much rather have Bugs...or change it to a jungle and make it Up themed.

I wounldn't say those would be easy solves. You're pretty much talking about the main entrance for every cast member in the park, not something that could easily be moved to another part of the park, if it's the area I'm thinking of. They should just use up the lagoon. There's enough space for everything.

someone has just taken all the various rumours that have been floating around for time and collated them with no reference, so it all seems pretty pie in the sky to me...

i would love to see the little mermaid ride and the enchanted forest, and the ideas for star tours sound very exciting! not too bothered about the other stuff (except i was hoping that histk was being converted to bug's life not another toy story attraction!)...

TPI is a very solid source. I would put more weight in Robert Niles reply (several comments below the OP or article) than the original post however. Even so, it sounds promising.

Im confused. the beginning of the article states Imagineers gave an update today regarding the following things for disney parks worldwide etc etc.
So it sounds like there was a press conference of some kind? And not just republished rumors afterall. but which is it?
They either talked about those concepts publicly or they didnt.

"and remember, planning does not mean construction, so not everything these guys talk about gets built"

ok got it...

But then this person makes it seem like all these things are happening...right now, full on, all at once.

I don't know how to feel on any of these...some sound cool but I also feel like somehow none of it will happen for some. Maybe Star Tours and alittle sprucing up between the Castle and Carousel...of course I'm ignoring most of the others because they won't really affect me and WDW...except for how they distribute the money for other projects.

There's also one other little thing I'm iffy about. Why would Star Tours be in 3-D? It doesn't really seem necessary to me. Besides, you're in an enclosed vessel, so why would things suddenly start flying towards you when you're inside? I don't know, it just doesn't seem necessary to me. Oh well, the rest of the refurb sounds amazing though.

Our eyes see depth. What if your automobile just had a 2D screen instead of a piece of glass allowing you to see the real world? It wouldn't be so easy to drive and anticipate other cars, obstacles, upcoming turns, etc. The same applies to rides. It makes all the difference in the world for immersion. Look at the ending of Spiderman. You car is hovering over the city and you get a true sense of height, especially when you drop. There is no substitute for 3D, and to me it is a complete necessity for a modern simulator.

Me, I'm just holding out hope for one awesome press release come October. Isn't that when they usually have their press days? We haven't had a really big one for quite some time. We know things are in the works, ST2, TLM but we have not heard for sure who is getting what. Then there are things like the Monster Inc roller coaster and bugs life play area, that we think is coming but have not had a for sure from WDW.

Agreed. And I think the day is coming that there will be so many 3D effects in the parks that they will start selling inexpensive "designer" 3D glasses that people will own and carry around with them. Also clip-on 3D devices for those that wear perscription lenses.

I wonder if they would make an app for the iPhone when you open your camera and you click 3-D and you hold the phone up to the screen and everything is in 3-D. That would be awsome! But I rather have the 'DESIGNER" glasses:D

Someone is going to get a patent and make a lot of money. I'm suprised they don't already sell them.

You're thinking about the cheap 3-D tricks of the past where things fly out at you. Instead, think about the movies coming out in theatres lately like Up and Bolt that are in 3-D. The way 3-D is used now is to add an extra dimension to films...not for gags.

I see what you mean, but IMO its not really worth it enough to get everyone to wear 3-D glasses and such. I'd rather see somthing like the Star Trek experience simulator where the screen is in front and practically above you, and like Storm Chasers where there are "windows" on the sides of the simulator. That makes it feel VERY emmersive.

Star Tours 2 sounds GLORIOUS.
Enchanted Forest could be interesting depending on how they do it. I still would have like to see a fully developed Toontown at Disney World someday though.

I think that the 3-D will not be things flying at you, but rather things will appear further away. It will add a real since(sp?) of depth like you are looking out a real window. I would think it would be easy to do with todays tech, imo.
