I didn't see any threads on this, so forgive me if it's been posted, but SSE had its official rededication today. They held it at the Fountain of Nations stage, with Executive VP Jim Hunt and Siemens President Ken Cornelius, along with the Voices of Liberty and others.

Was anyone in attendance to view it firsthand? Looks like they used fireworks instead of the usual ribbon cutting.

Well, this should have been more newsworthy... Info...?

Shame they didn't take the opportunity to dedicate a new sculpture in the entrance fountain and restore rotating lighting color schemes to the sphere at night... You know, bring SSE fully back from the dead... at least its exterior...

I'm sorry I don't have more info, I just saw a brief article on it today and it was the first I had heard of it. Looks like it was a small ceremony, with some VIPs and characters in attendance. Nothing major or earthshattering, it appears, just a simple little celebration to officially reopen SSE.

Never happy, huh? Not even to be an American? Why the signature?

...Because saying it might somehow make your trip to Paris a little easier?

Anyway, for all the inside reports that pop up on here (and some even true!), I'd be quite surprised if there weren't at least a few board members as passersby to the event.

There must be someone on here that managed to get to the event today for some pictures and videos, congratulations Spaceship Earth on your rededication. :sohappy:

It's a song lyric about a vacationing American in Paris whose dinner is undercooked... :lookaroun "Desole, je suis americain, please cook my steak again, je suis americain... Desole, je ne parle pas francais."

And, borrowing another song lyric, this one from the epic hymn "Jerusalem," (based on a poem by William Blake): "I will not cease from mental fight / nor shall my sword sleep in my hand / till we have" a new main entrance fountain sculpture and rotating nighttime color lighting schemes returned to Spaceship Earth. :animwink:

Maybe the "fight / sword" is the issue. Sometimes that's not the best way to get changes. ;)

We were at WDW! Had I known, I would have attended. Grrrrrrrrr. We had heard that there was going to be a private event for Siemens honchos, but that it wasn't for the public. You would think that WDW brass would like some guests to attend . . . ??? I really wish that WDW would post something on their website, passholder page, or even resort t.v. for something like this. I just don't get it.

I would think the reason is quite obvious.

Since when does Disney want dissent at any of their hooplas? There was palpable dissent about this refurbishment, and not just here. You can't deny it exists. There is a measurable number of people who flat out don't like it.

Uh...OK. Still, even if we don't agree with what happened with this refurb, we are all still SSE fans, and would like to have been there for this rededication. Look at what happened with Celebration 25. Many of the people in attendence had their differences about the direction Epcot has taken over the years; some, such as yourself, strongly disagree with recent refurbishments and management decisions regarding Epcot. But that did not prevent you from celebrating 25 years of Epcot along with everyone else on October 1st. The same holds true for SSE. While we may have our differences about the refurb, it would have been nice to have been there for this event.

Hey everyone. I was there during the rededication ceremony. It started at 8:45 AM, but people were in the park before because it was an Extra Magic Hour.

When I get a chance, I'll post some pictures. :)
