Trip Report Springin' Into WDW Solo! March 2016

I just got back from my second solo trip a couple weeks ago. I was there from March 19-24. It was a fabulous trip.

A little back story, I'm a teacher and my husband is a pastor, and since this year's Spring Break fell during Holy Week there wasn't anyway he could come with me. So I decided to travel solo again, first solo trip was last March. I want to be home for Easter so my plan was just for a Saturday-Thursday trip, in the end I wish I had spent the whole week there, but I always want more time in WDW.

So Saturday March 19th came and my husband drove me to the airport early for my 8 am flight. I had been wide awake since 1:30am, I was so excited I just couldn't sleep. The flight was pushed back an hour because of supposedly icy roads. The pilot told us the flight crew was delayed because of icy roads; I didn't quite buy that story as even though it had been lightly snowing the roads weren't bad at all. My flight was on Spirit so I was a little nervous as I had heard bad things about them, but I had a big seat in the first row and my flight, even though delayed, was very nice.

Okay, finally in Orlando and I made my way to the Magical Express. It seems as if delay was the theme of the day, we were on the bus ready to go and then we were delayed because the driver got sick. Luckily it wasn't a long delay, 5 minutes later a new driver was there and we were on our way.

And it was raining so it put a bit of a damper on arrival! Sorry for the pun, nothing could dampen my excitement!

My resort this time was the All Star Sports, mostly because it was the cheapest. To be honest for years, I have avoided the All Stars like the plague, but I stayed at the Movies last year and enjoyed it and my stay at the Sports was enjoyable too. I have a stay booked for the Music in June, so I hope my luck holds out!

My room at the Sports, a little sparse in decoration. But it was clean, very close to the bus stop, and the bed was comfortable.

I had done online check in and I got a text about 10 minutest after leaving the airport that my room was ready. I really like just being able to go to my room.

Love all the great pictures!! And I learned something new, too--I never realized that the Tune-In Lounge also served food!! (Never been in there, as I thought it was just a regular cocktail lounge.) I may just check this out when I go to WDW this week!!

I've eaten a couple of times at the Tune-In lounge, and yes it is the full menu from the Prime-Time. It can get quite crowded sometimes as people are waiting for their table, but often there is space at the bar for the solo traveler. If you can't get into the Tune-In lounge the Brown Derby lounge has some good food too.

Thanks, I thought you would like the Figment pictures. The orchids were really pretty, seeing all the flowers in bloom in mid-March for this Wisconsinite is always amazing. It just makes me happy.

Back to touring World Showcase...

Here is a look at the construction I saw in March at Norway.

And then the Frozen topiary.

And then on to China. I thought about getting another beef bun, but I decided to just see the 360 film, as I hadn't seen it in a few trips.

I found a few of the Easter eggs that were hidden around World Showcase, I kept forgetting to look until I saw someone else looking.

I thought the Jungle Book sand sculpture was pretty cool I am not a Jungle Book fan (still haven't seen the new movie) but still the sand sculpture is cool, I wonder what they coat it with to make sure it doesn't break or break down in rain.

Found another Easter egg in Germany (or rather the people who I saw looking for it pointed it out to each other and I saw it then too).

I did have the curry wurst and paprika chips from the Flower and Garden booth in Germany. It was really good, I was hesitant to try it but I enjoyed it a lot. The picture is on my phone, so I will upload those later.

Now to Italy.

I found this easter egg on my own in Italy, it was right around the corner from the Lad and Tramp topiary.

I headed over to the American Adventure, but it was still about a half hour before the Voice of Liberty so I headed over to Japan to get the udo beef (amazing, and my picture of that is on my phone too). I watched a little of the drummers while I ate, and then headed back to America. The Voices of Liberty were just starting, and they were fantastic as they always are. Then I watched the American Adventure show. Being a history fan, I do enjoy the show a lot.

After the show I headed over to Japan again to explore the garden area. It is such a pretty area. I also wandered into the store there and it was a zoo. Very crowded so I didn't spend much time in there.

One more of Japan.

I then decided to try the chicken kabob from Morocco. It was a little spicier than I expected and the couscous was a little sweeter than I thought it would be, but overall it was tasty.

I did find the Pluto Easter egg in Morocco and then explored the pavilion.

I by passed the Florida fresh booth and headed into France for the onion tart and the movie.

Thanks for both of those tips. Because I'm always up so ridiculously early each morning, I'm ready for lunch around 11, so that's probably early enough to get into one of those two places. Most of my meals are QS, but I'll definitely spend more for one of these meal choices, just to experience something different and nicer.

Both are relaxing changes from quick service and cost just a bit more. It was nice to enjoy an adult beverage with my meal too.

Here was the Easter egg in France....Figment!

I got a treat from Les Halles, duo au chocolate (a chocolate mousse treat), it was fantastic.

Then I wandered into and through the UK.

Then on into Canada before making my way out of the park for a quick break back at the resort for a little bit.

One last Easter egg.

After a resort break I decided to end my trip at the Magic Kingdom. Extra Magic Hours were until 2am, I was thinking about staying that late but I only made it until around 12:45am.

I had one of my favorites, chicken nuggets and fries. I got the kids portion at the Columbia Harbour House and it was plenty.

I also watched Wishes that night, I watched it over by Belle's house. It is a great show but I hope a new show comes soon. Maybe for WDW's 50th.

After Wishes I wandered around, I did some attractions like Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder and even the Hall of Presidents.

Despite my wanting to stay until 2 am, I just got too tired. So I headed out. I had an early flight and had to meet the Magical Express at 5:00am, so I thought it was best to get going.

So that was the end of the trip. The next morning I headed to the airport, and thought I would be home in a few hours. Turns out my 8 am flight got delayed because of a dent in the door of the luggage compartment until almost 4pm! I was stuck at the airport that whole time. The worst part was I thought wouldn't have a ride home until after 9:30pm once I finally got home. It was Holy Thursday and my husband (who was to pick me up at the airport) is a pastor and had services that night so I thought I would have to wait. The earlier flight had been booked because of this. Luckily one of my friends was available to pick me up. Anyway, the airline gave us food and flight vouchers, and at least the flight delay didn't occur at the start of the trip! Overall, it was a great trip.

Thanks! I don't always have the patience to wait for the monorail, but it was a leisurely morning. And the monorail entered the park as I walked through the "turnstile" so I knew it wouldn't be a long wait.
