Spring Break Crowds

Do the crowds for spring break generally follow the actual calendar or Easter? Easter 2011 will be in late April, does that mean the Spring Break Crowds will be late also? I am trying to plan a trip for next spring and would like to know.

The crowds follow the vacations of the schools From the 2nd Week of march through the 3rd week of April. It gets even more crowded during Easter weekend, however, crowded throughout that span.

Spring Breaks are scheduled regardless of Easter. Like dagoof00 said, every year they start the 2nd week in March and continue until usually the 3rd week in April. Every school district is different. Which is nice - that way not everyone is on spring break at the same time. Wouldn't that be crazy!

Did a quick check on some sites I know that track past attendance patterns in order to predict what will happen in the future. Most seem to agree March and April will be just as busy as most schools have fixed spring breaks, the only difference they predict is early March might be a bit lighter than usual and April will remain busy right up to the end, rather than dropping off by the 4th week. This is of course due to the few spring breaks that do adjust according to the date of Easter.

Like DaGoof00 said, spring breaks run from the 2nd week in March to the 3rd week in April. From what I've noticed, southern state schools generally have just the one break in March, and northern states (more specifically, Massachusetts schools...where I'm from) have 2 breaks. One in February and one in April.

In MA, the breaks are during the 3rd week of those months and even though Easter is on April 24th in 2011, I doubt that would affect the date of anybody's spring break. The reason that I say this is because most schools take off Good Friday, which will be on the 22nd, and I don't think that many school districts would take Good Friday off and then take another week off for spring break. If anything, they'll take advantage of only having to, in essence, use 4 days for spring break, thus allowing the school year to end another day sooner.

Therefore, if you go during the week of the 24th in 2011 I think you'll miss all the spring break crowd as well as a lot of us pushy "Yanks." One thing I know is that when I went for the second half of the 3rd week and for the whole 4th week in April last year (2009), the difference between vacation and non-vacation weeks was huge.

Have fun!

Why not consider Mardi Gras? It is later next year than it was this year. It shouldn't be too crowded in early March and the weather may still be cool. Florida's humidity is almost as bad as ours in Louisiana so the earlier the better! I would love to spend Mardi Gras at WDW, but we don't always get that whole week off in north Louisiana:cry:

4 days until we are ºoºrlando bound with 45 teens and 8 adults on two school buses for 930 miles of smiles:hammer:

I think most Louisiana schools have their spring break before or after Easter, while the rest of the U.S. is pretty random? My family lives in Tennessee and spring break at my sister's school up there was somewhere between Mardi Gras and Easter. Next year, I am also debating if I should go for spring break or Mardi Gras.

I have been during Mardi Gras a few times. It is pretty crowded and it is all Lousisana folks.

I am in Mandeville, outside of New Orleans. The public schools had off last week and the private schools have off this coming week.

Southern Louisiana usually have off around Easter.

Our Spring Break up here in Canada runs from March 12th to March 20th next year and I know the parks will be filled, just like years past. Still look forward to it though!!!

We also just got back today. Early last week it was alright. But Thursday in MK BTM had a 170 minute wait, the line for Swiss Family Tree House was crazy...the thing was full step by step...had to take photos of both...although my husband and girls thought I was nuts. But the early entry mornings at 7 AM were wonderful. We got so much done. Friday at Epcot Soarin' FP's were gone by lunch time, as were TT. But the early entrys at all parks made it easy to get everything done.

Living in Illinois our spring breaks are always either the week before or the week after Easter. Unless they shorten the break to make up snow days.

We used to live in Covington off Bootlegger Rd./Hwy 1085. I worked for the sheriff's office for just shy of 4 years. We sure do miss it. We'd go back in a heartbeat if there was any good paying work for the hubby.

Our spring break over here in Texas is the 1st full week of March (usually it's technically the 2nd week). The calendar for next year is already posted & it's the same. That'll be the next trip for our boys. :animwink:

For the most part crowds will peak the week before and the week after Easter. The big tell is the 2 spring week blackout period of the Florida Resident seasonal pass. These are the 2 weeks that Disney has predicted the biggest crowds. If you can avoid those dates.

Most Georgia public schools will be out for Spring Break 4/4 -4/8/11

good luck on your planning!!
It is crazy I tell you. Spring break dates will vary by as much as a 5 week span. Not only will different counties follow different schedules but private schools and colleges will also follow a different schedule. A great example of this is the 3 coastal counties in North Florida this year. Nassau county was 2 weeks ago, St Johns was last week and Duval in this week.

I just looked at our school calendar (VA) for next spring break and we dont have a break until the week before Easter..so yes some school do make their breaks around Easter so next years busy season could be a bit longer than this years!!! Hope this helps :)

We went the week before Easter of 2007 and the crowds were horrendous. If you weren't there at the rope drop, and getting Fast Passes by the dozens throughout the day...it was nuts. We left Saturday and I think the parks were closed due to capacity on Sunday. But we still had fun - it's Disney after all! ;)
