The whole point is the Witches Road tests those that walk the Road, if it was just hey here is Agatha and she got to the end of the Road and got her powers back that would be boring. So yeah you're going to have each location be a test of the witch of a certain discipline, and will be unique in both location and test to that witch, its why they needed one from each.

Basically it plays on all the classic witch lore about the need of a coven, working together, etc. Something that Agatha isn't keen on having. So we learn about Agatha, more of her backstory, and why she is not trusting of other witches. Something we only got a small glimpse of in WandaVision.

And Rio (Plaza's character) will be showing up and joining shortly, so don't give up yet. See how you like Ep4.
Oh I'm all in. If I could suffer through the truly ratchet She-Hulk :p I wouldn't give up easily on anything D+ Marvel. I just think it's gonna be mostly filler for a while focusing on characters I don't care about.

What will be interesting for me is also watching Grotesquerie at the same time and waiting for new episodes of American Horror Stories to drop and seeing which I end up liking best in the category of horror camp this season. Though I don't expect any of it to get close to the brilliance of Scream Queens, which is so underappreciated.

So Rio is here, Yay!

And we learn Teen isn't Mr Scratch, Aggie's son. Something that was pretty much known, but was still a potential before this episode.

Confused by tonight’s episode, I thought the witches road was a test, how does singing a song prove them worthy?

My least favorite episode by far, I feel like the only thing it added to the story is it brought Rio to the road. Disappointing episode overall.

It's not singing the song that proved them worthy. It's Alice finally accepting that her mother wasn't lying, and all of this is real. She finally looked her curse head on, and was able to break it by finally acknowledging it. Each test is for one of the witches specifically, and the road/trails adapt to the witches on it.

Jennifer's test was accepting that she still had power despite being "bound." Alice's test was letting go of her anger with her mother, and finally understanding her. That's why she took the lead vocals in this version of the ballad, she was finally embracing her mother.

I did feel that the trail aspect of this episode was a little bit rushed, I wish that we got to spend more time in that house. However I understand them wanting to include the character development scenes on the road. There's so much nuance in the storytelling in the relationships between all of these women, that I'll forgive it, but I do think the episode would have been a lot stronger if there was just 5 more minutes of trial. This was supposed to be Alice's episode, but Rio/Agatha/Teen overshadowed her.

Still not interested in the side quests of uncompelling characters and am already over the joke of the fortune teller spouting something random then asking "what?" a bunch of times, but glad we got a bit of story progress with Agatha, Death & Wiccan.

Easing on down the road...

I personally think all the characters are compelling, and am interested in learning all their backstories as we hit each trial. But of course the entire series is about Agatha, so more focus is going to be placed on her and less on the side characters.

And if you can't appreciate Patti LuPone, well shame on you. :)

A very enjoyable and (in parts) moving episode. The song is infectuous! Special shout out to Joe Locke, who really has proven his versatility as an actor (we're a world away from his character in Heartstopper).

And we can now confirm that the dynamic between Agatha and Rio is romantic. I'm glad to see Disney hasn't (as some have claimed) backed off from exploring queer stories and characters.

I appreciate Patti LuPone. I don't appreciate her being the butt of the same joke over and over. ;) "What what?"

Also, last night's Grotesquerie slayed in the "insert a song into your episode" for the week. :D The show is crazy in the usual Ryan Murphy way, but damn did that song surprise me. Perfect choice and fantastic vocals. And a far more interesting cast of characters even if they're all the usual Ryan Murphy types. It's basically just another season of AHS with only Niecy in it and the others just cast with younger versions of Evan, Taissa, Frances, Gabourey, etc.

What you're calling "the butt of the same joke" to me is part of the characters allure as she has visions of the future but doesn't remember them.

I haven't seen Grotesquerie as it didn't interest me just as the AHS series didn't either.

Grotesquerie is so appallingly wretched it’s almost offensive. I like a good horror film, but the show is simply ugly and cruel. Compare it to something like Hannibal, a brilliant show that depicted some truly disturbing things but did so with thought, empathy, and wit. The contrast is stark.

MCU characters not being based on major Marvel Comics characters does not make them uninteresting. The show is doing a great job of developing its cast.

Grotesquerie is graphic for my tastes on the violence but I'm enjoying the cast and characters as I have with almost every season of AHS/AHSs. I know what I'm getting when I watch Ryan Murphy shows. Sometimes they're amazing; sometimes they're just depressing. But I generally always enjoy the cast, as I am with Grotesquerie, even if, as noted, they're the typical AHS characters. Is Grotesquerie hard to watch? Yes - both for the violence and the raw emotional brutality depicted. But then there are moments like the ridiculous perfection of the song in this week's episode that make the whole show worth watching. And Travis Kelce, who is surprisingly endearing, though I'm expecting a... dark outcome... for his character.

Never watched Hannibal; didn't interest me.

No issue with new characters introduced in the MCU/D+ shows. Ouroboros is a perfect example of a delightful and immediately appealing character who wasn't based on a major Marvel Comics character. But absolutely none of this coven interested me, besides Aubrey being Aubrey. I'm just along for Agatha, who herself seems toned down since WandaVision and I hope she gets to be over the top again sooner rather than later. But I'm not sure if that toned-down quality is an actor choice or director choice; waiting to see if it changes.
