My DH and I stayed at The Borgata in Atlantic City last week for our anniversary. After waiting in line for 45 minutes to check in and dealing consistently throughout our stay with staff who were indifferent (and some who were incompetent), I commented to him that it definitely was not Disney level service.

I have been to Hershey, Six Flags in NJ and NY, Busch Gardens in VA and FL, Great Wolf Lodge in PA, and Kings Dominion in VA. I always find their attempts at theming weak and even a little annoying. They all offer great rides, many more exciting than Disney's E-ticket attractions. When I want an amazing coaster or ride, I can go there. When I want the complete package- great service, theming, family togetherness, Disney wins hands down.
That is the one hotel I haven't stayed in. I've been stuck on Harrahs lately. When also like a smaller boutique hotel called "the Chelsea" right on the boardwalk. They have always been great to us. We stayed there this past March and when they found out we were celebrating a birthday, they upgraded our room, gave us two free drinks at the bar, and free breakfast in their restaurant.
I was actually just reading that Showboat just announced they are closing up Aug 1st.
I'd much rather stay the Disney's Boardwalk anyway :D

Wow. The haterade and the delusion is STRONG in this thread, but they usually always are in threads like these, so I'm not too surprised.

I live in California, so I will be speaking on behalf of the theme parks here. In terms of theming, Disneyland does it better than any theme park I've been to out here, no doubt. As to the way guests are treated, AKA guest service... That would be Universal Studios Hollywood. I just recently found out that if a specific ride stays down for a long enough period of time, USH will keep that ride open for an extra hour after closing. Disneyland would NEVER do that. I went to USH for Grinchmas one year, and it was very chilly that day. USH gave out free hot chocolate to everyone. FREE. Again, Disneyland would never do that. They'd laugh in your face first. Another thing that USH did that surprised and impressed the hell out of me regarded tickets. It was raining one day, and there's no worse weather than rain for Southern Californians. Since it was raining so hard that day, USH gave every guest who wasn't a passholder a complimentary ticket to come back another day. I can say it three times, Disneyland would never, never, ever, ever, never, ever do that. Disney's too money-hungry for that. I'm always treated very well when I'm at Universal. I can bet others are, too, but they're loyal to the brand that is Disney.

In regards to Six Flags (I will speak on behalf of Magic Mountain), there's NO WAY IN HELL it can be compared to USH. I've seen plenty of photos of other Six Flags parks, as well as the Universal parks in Orlando, and, again, there's NO WAY IN HELL, they can be compared to each other. The ignorance in some of the posts in this thread is ridiculous. I find Magic Mountain fun, but it doesn't take much to get me to have a good time. I can go to the Santa Monica Pier and have a blast. Then again, I'm not loyal to the Mouse and I don't have standards.

LOL....guess I suppose anything else never has compared since my first visit as adult to WDW....that is why I go back again and again....someday I want to visit DL too but it's out of my intense love of WDW and the fact Walt was there in the park etc. SO for all you other peeps suffering withdrawal and not getting fufillment in other venues....I have found redoing my living room influenced greatly by my favorite resort, the WL, and otherwise finding new ways to install hidden mickeys around my house...AND by listening to Disney radio stations....cooking Disney recipies we love.....it helps ease the pain. :D Also those elusive Disney moments when a smell or sight wisks you away......sigh.....;).

But the Magic Kingdom didn't even open until after Walt died. Did you mean he was in DL?

EDIT: Okay, I think I get what you mean now.

Oh. Does the different European country theming not count? Or the themed rides like Curse of DarKastle, Escape from Pompeii or Verbolten?

It is a very beautiful park. What is especially nice is walking the pathways-in the shade! and having a selection of seating locations-in the shade! when it's 100 degrees outside with a lovely level of humidity as an added bonus. Shade and benches are extinct at Magic Kingdom but I digress to another thread......

I've always loved Dollywood's theming and natural beauty.

Dollywood has definitely tried to on a smaller scale, to give their rides theming. It isn't Disney by any means but it has been very cool to watch that park progress from the early days when it took over Silver Dollar City to now. It definitely isn't Disney scale but I like what they do there.

None of the other parks that have I have been to are the same type of branding as Disney, so I don't compare.

I love Disney, but I also love Holiday World. There, I have free parking, free soda, and there is no need to buy a park hopper to go between the amusement and water park. I have never seen a tour group leader with a flag. I can eat reasonably priced meals that taste decent and I don't have to book them out at 180 days. In several visits I have always seen at least one of the owners working (usually in a janitorial position) and they are wearing a regular uniform. The place is spotless and the workers and fellow park goers are friendly. It's simple and quaint. I don't have to do a lot of preplanning and organizing. It's a show-up and go with the flow kind of place. It's not as grand, but that is okay.

I feel the same with Dollywood. Everybody is friendly there. Although, I may be a tad bit biased since that is where I grew up and my parents still live there.:inlove: The workers are a different group than Disney, most live in the area and have for most of their lives. They have a particularly vested interest in the parks.

Another park we enjoy is Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. As the name implies, it's pretty fun.

None of these parks are Disney, but that is not their niche. The workers have always been friendly and the parks have always been clean.
