ok....I know at first read this may sound completely absurd but soak it in and digest it first. My fiancee brought something up to me a ccouple of weeks ago when I mentioned all the refurbs that were going on in January really made me think (and it hurt...)

Close the entire WDW for the month of January (starting on the 2nd). At first thought everyone is saying the loss of money, etc... makes it unrealistic but it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as one may think. All staff would be part of the refurbs right down to the cleaning, detailing and perhaps small painting jobs. No worries about putting up the walls let alone making them look good. There could be lots of focus on the details, take the xmas decorations down and each ride gets some TLC.

There are lots of positives about this....least of which nobody gets their first pic on Main St with the wonderful crane in the shot behind the castle.

Well, yeah, it may very well be as bad as you think. MLK Weekend and the following week has really picked up as a time to visit, refurbs or no. And if you close MK for a month to address all of the work, what about the work that needs to be done at the other parks? Do you close them for an extended period of time as well? And if so, then when would you shut them down?

To be fair, the original poster was suggesting closing all of WDW, not just the MK. It's not unheard of (Disneyland wasn't a full-year operation when it opened, and lots of non-Disney parks operate seasonally today), but it's hard to imagine it happening now.

I don't see it happening. There was talk a while ago over in miceage about closing DHS or AK 1 or 2 days a week. The only reason why they would close a park (or all the parks down) for that length of time would be if they felt they had too much to refurbish and the parks could not be profitable during that time.

I would think that if Space Mountain, Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain were down for a month, the Magic Kingdom would still be profitable - not very profitable, but still profitable. Oh no, I've said too much - Disney, don't get any ideas.

Might be a prototype.

We already have conclusive evidence citing lapbars for this year...:lookaroun
I think there are others who said yesterday that they've seen boats that look brand new, but didn't have lap bars in them. So who knows. I was almost certain we weren't getting them this year and it was going to be next year. We'll have to wait and see i guess.

How about instead of all this saying, someone could grab a picture of the logs? Then we'd know exactly whats going on.

Some say yes to the lap bars (someone "heard it", another one said the CM said yes to lap bars, and another person saw them backstage). While others are saying just new logs this year with lap bars next year. :lookaroun

Honestly, I'm hoping for lap bars. I'm wicked freaked out with the feeling of flying out of the vehicle, thats why I don't really ride splash now. The ride overall is pure amazing though, so I kick myself every time I don't ride it. (this is also why I don't go on ToT, though I know they have restraints... just not a fan of the free falling feeling)

Yea, someone needs to go get a picture. I was gonna say that in my last post.

All this talk of people getting out of the logs - where do they go? Splash around in ankle deep water? I can't imagine what kind of thinking goes on when getting out of the ride is your best option. And how did they plan on getting out?

I never felt for a moment that I would fly out of the log. I mean, is it even possible?:dazzle:

It's not possible...but yeah, I freak out about that, too.:dazzle:

Though, I rode it in Aug, then again in December, and after my December ride really thought "That was it?"...You get used to it.

Maybe.

I already have E:E locked in. One at a time, one at a time.:lookaroun

I think I was 19 the first time I rode ToT. I was nervous and jittery throughout the whole queue, pre-show, ride up... but when the drop finally came it was SOOO worth it! I still get a little nervous about riding it but nowhere near what I was like the first time. Give it a shot some time, EE. Proud of you that you've committed to Everest though. :sohappy:

One major problem with that. Most CMs are not trained to use chemicals or safety equipment. 3rd shift custodial, maintenence and other utility workers have to have ongoing training on cleaning proceedures, safety, asbestos and other proceedures not normally dealt with with regular CMs. Training everyone would cost more money than some referbs.

Need to dust that chandelier? You need to take the computer class on "Cleaning hanging props and light fixtures." They don't take chances with legal stuff so they have training on just about everything.

Good points..... There has to be something better than the current procedures they follow.
