You did not just compare the Mona Lisa to Splash Mountain. Yes you did. Look, any theme park ride that lasts as long as the Mona Lisa might conceivably be considered historically significant some day. But theme parks themselves, as a concept, aren’t even there yet.You write that as if theme parks are insignificant and not worthy of our passion.
Maybe go to an art forum and suggest that painting over the Mona Lisa would be no big deal. It’s just some oil on a canvas after all.
We all love theme parks in these forums. It’s why we’re here. But theme parks are ever-changing entities at the mercy of the corporations that own them. Nothing is permanent. Enjoy them in the here-and-now, and cherish the good memories you make there. But don’t count on their attractions to stick around forever.
But I know, it doesn’t make the closing of a favorite any easier. At least this one isn’t being replaced by a candy store, a meet n’ greet, or a cheap C-ticket dark ride, all of which Disney has done to other attractions.
