The lack of upkeep predates the announcement of the retheme by many years.

I know. But after refurbs in the past, show quality has always been excellent. Maybe missing one or two things, but not like what's been described. I won't go further into this, the state of show maintenance across the board gets me too upset. You could say that TLC was slowly declining until about 2016, when it really fell off a cliff. Which just happens to be after a certain penny pinching, bald headed crap peddler was installed as the head of P&R the year prior. 🤔

This is a case where, to me, deferred maintenance in an effort to "make a case" doesn't make any sense. There's no one in upper management they need to sell on the idea of the re-theme; this idea was already fast-tracked by the higher-ups. And they don't need to prove anything to the consumer with satisfaction data since it's not like they have to share those figures publicly anyway.

I was thinking recently, so Splash has had no real merch for almost a year and a half. Not even Tokyo apparently has anything decent. I guess they won't really have any farewell merch. I still and pretty sad I missed the last merch drop just by a day due to the park reservation system. Definitely sucks that the merch is now selling for hundreds of dollars online.

Etsy always has better stuff than official merch. It's not mass produced and the creators usually care about their creations.
I am literally in love with all of my Splash stuff I've gotten from Etsy. Heck, my Splash hoodie from Etsy is a higher quality than the crew neck I bought from the parks. I am afraid to wear the parks one, let alone wash it 😫.

I'm just thinking out loud but do you think there's any chance they started drafting retheme plans once Galaxy Edge was opened? It would draw crowds from Critter Country and Frontierland. Then GE flopped, Covid caused them to panic and announce it WAYYYY earlier than intended.

I think they have blueprints at the ready to replace any attraction. Just uh... very surface level.

Tokyo Disney splash mountain is getting a seasonal overlay that makes their splash mountain more wet.

That is a pretty big deal for the traditional sense that the Japanese have liked their water rides less wet than Americans can tolerate, and Splash Mountain of course has never been a soaking wet attraction with the double log design.

I am wondering if it is likely that this will bring more merch that could come to stateside.
