I've often wondered just where in the Laughing Place segment Baskett had filled in, because if you listen to the Uncle Remus Record, Johnny Lee sounds EXACTLY the same. I wonder if it was 50/50 or not a complete cover for the whole section. There are a few instances where you can tell it was Baskett, but others where you know/can tell it's Johnny Lee. I wish a lot of things, but I really wish they had made the cartoon series with the Brers. I know there were other segments planned for SOTS (with even songs written for them), and I hope one day, if recordings or demos of those exist, they get released in some way. Even if he hadn't been able to supply the voice for Brer Rabbit anymore the way Nick Stewart had, I wish that he would have at least lived to see Splash Mountain.
All three of the actors were really, really good friends in real life, and had done Broadway and radio together. Stewart and Lee remained friends for the rest of Lee's life, and they wrote all-Black musicals and plays together that were performed in Los Angeles. Alan Young was also a friend of theirs and wrote a lot of sketches with them. Somewhere out in the universe, I hope there are photos of them together, and I hope wherever they are out the in the universe, they're having a blast.
