Honestly all three voice actors of Brer Rabbit were good. James Basket filled in for the Laughing Place segment and I think I watched that segment the most. The three main voice actors from Song of the South were all great.
I've often wondered just where in the Laughing Place segment Baskett had filled in, because if you listen to the Uncle Remus Record, Johnny Lee sounds EXACTLY the same. I wonder if it was 50/50 or not a complete cover for the whole section. There are a few instances where you can tell it was Baskett, but others where you know/can tell it's Johnny Lee. I wish a lot of things, but I really wish they had made the cartoon series with the Brers. I know there were other segments planned for SOTS (with even songs written for them), and I hope one day, if recordings or demos of those exist, they get released in some way. Even if he hadn't been able to supply the voice for Brer Rabbit anymore the way Nick Stewart had, I wish that he would have at least lived to see Splash Mountain.

All three of the actors were really, really good friends in real life, and had done Broadway and radio together. Stewart and Lee remained friends for the rest of Lee's life, and they wrote all-Black musicals and plays together that were performed in Los Angeles. Alan Young was also a friend of theirs and wrote a lot of sketches with them. Somewhere out in the universe, I hope there are photos of them together, and I hope wherever they are out the in the universe, they're having a blast.

I don't know how true this is but I remember reading that originally the plan was to have shorts with the Brers after Song of The South but the reception and controversy made them back off from that idea. Which in my opinion is a shame because the animated sections are great and some of Disney's best.

I believe that if these characters weren't tied to Song of the South and the live action segments which are what most of the complaints are about. While having a good amount of fully animated shorts no one would be complaining about the Brer themed Splash Mountain. Also voice actors would have been getting paid to voice characters that I truly think they liked.

just came across this, have no idea who this guy is or if he's credible but he claims to have "sources"

He doesn't tell us what his sources have been right about in the past in order to judge it. We've often heard people on these boards who heard ""reliable info"" from a friend or CM, who got their source from insiders on these boards. It's the circle of rumors. That makes those sources look like they have inside info... until it's clear they don't.

The rest of the guy's video is the same "Surely, they wouldn't..." arguments totally discounting just how imperative the "surely they would..." counterargument is.

Plus, the airing of unrelated grievances.

Not to mention he's not a DL blogger and the video is a month old and no one else who has actual reliable sources have confirmed this thus far.

plus, the Clockwork Orange poster in the background is always a red flag

I agree it’s going to happen, but could you clarify how it’s already happening?
I'm not sure why no one's talking about it, but look what has already been done (left side). The color palette of the rock work and grasses are not the same. I expect them to slow play the re-theming like this as much as possible until Tron opens.

EDIT: This could really just be sloppy/slow work as suggested in other threads.

However, everything that's not coming to the new attraction has more or less been untouched; which is a departure from previous annual refurbishments.

This was talked about quite a bit in the annual refurbishment thread. But it was chalked up to Disney being cheap/lesser quality work as seen all over property these days. I thinks that’s significantly more likely than them deciding to refresh half the mountain and leave the other half untouched in preparation of a retheme that won’t happen for at least a year.

Yeah, after more thought, this is more likely the plausible answer here.

I think it's just them being sloppy, if I can be honest.

At this point I'm not looking at this as a retheme, I'm looking at it as a mercy kill. There is absolutely no way Splash should be operating in this shape.

How Do You Do?
  • Third frog not moving
  • First goose on right barely moving
  • Mr. Bluebird not moving
  • Sweeping bunny 1 not moving
  • Br’er Fox barely moving while yelling at Br’er Bear
  • Br’er Fox’s jaw stuck closed
  • Br’er Bear only bobbing head
  • Br’er Bear not moving up and down
  • Jumping Br’er Rabbit not moving
  • Jumping fish not working
  • Br’er Frog not moving
  • Br’er Fox speaker still blown
  • Br’er Rabbit WAY too loud next to music
LP/ Br’er Fox Cave
  • At least 2 spinning beehives broken
  • Br’er Bear with beehive barely wobbling
  • Br’er Bear speaker still blown
  • Laughing Br’er Rabbit barely moving
  • Audio not working
  • Br’er Fox barely moving with beehive above him
  • Only one water stream working in Laughing Place
  • Turtle geysers not working
  • Neither turtle working
  • First frog not working
  • Br’er Fox barely moving
  • Br’er Fox jaw stuck open
  • Black curtain behind vultures removed showing behind the scenes
  • Left vulture not moving
  • Br’er Fox audio out at top of big plunge
Zip A Dee Doo Dah
  • 3rd Swamp Boy missing
  • Boat not rocking back and forth
  • Audio still blown in Gator Attack sequence
  • Br’er Fox barely moving
  • Br’er Bear not moving in and out
  • Br’er Gator not moving
  • Br’er Rabbit audio at end very statically
  • Audio also cuts off part of words

Not a mercy kill if you're the one prolonging the damage.

This was the show quality on Christmas day last year. Logs were stacked at final lift and at unload, took about 15+ mins after last drop to unload.

But what really caught my eyes was emergency lightning left on before and along the final lift. The inner-me was ecstatic because I got to see things you normally didn't gett to see...but the other me was basically facepalming..

I told the CMs about it after getting off and they said thanks. But this was already around 10:30pm...right around park closing time, so not sure if anything was done about it.

I don't ride SM enough to notice every single detail/effect that's broken, but I did notice a lot of AA's broken or half working. But the biggest one to me was the leaping fountains and/or geysers(?) -- they were all turned off that night.

The first time I noticed a "broken effect" was the trim brake on the final drop of Space Mountain.

Splash is the easiest ride to see what's broken because the AAs are up close. I'm curious how bad IASW AAs are. Pirates is also pretty bad.

Actually, I'm kidding about the Space point, because the audio effects are broken / staticy as well on it. As are some lights in the blue tunnel.
