What history has been "erased?"

I said before that I'm a US history teacher, and I'm happy to say that we actually get more in-depth on a lot of previously under-discussed aspects of that history now than we did when I was in high school. Looking through my textbooks and sources, at least here in New Jersey, I can pretty safely tell you that nothing's been "erased"; if anything, the books have only gotten more complex and in-depth.
I'm talking about groups trying to sanitize everything and claim like nothing happened.

Well, yeah: again, the bulk of America's wealth was built on a race-based labor system and genocide of the native population. So yeah, racism seeps through the pores of the entire culture.

As were most first-world countries. I don't say that to refute your points, I just think America sometimes gets unfairly described, intentional or otherwise, as being unique in this aspect. Pretty much every major civilization came about as a result of brutal conquest and subjugation. Not really the point of contention here, I know.

It's a racist ride. That cute, endearing, catchy song "Zip a dee doo dah" is based off of racist black faced minstrel shows from the 1830's. Imagine people defending a ride based off of a movie that showed blacks as lazy and dumb. Imagine being black and riding a ride that glorifies it.

Look up minstrel shows. Do research. It's not okay and splash mountain should have never been approved in 1989 to begin with.

I bet you're really fun at parties.

Wokeness!
...from a racist movie.
Yet YOU rode it! Wow.

Wow, some of the replies in this thread are astonishingly stupid.

“Retheme of a old log flume ride tied to a movie that is racist to a franchise that brings representation not present in a full way at the parks = karl Marx being put at the front of the park”
And then there are the people that are claiming this is one of many rides that are untouchable... Is there an official list of rides that shall never be touched or Bob from Ohio or Susan from Minnesota is gonna scream and never come to the parks again? They can never change?! Not change at all?! They must stay exactly the same as they were when I was a child?
Haha please. For people who call “woke people” (whatever that means) cry babies, I see a whole lot of whining.

Well I welcome change and I will always have those memories of the ride, the parks changing a theme isn't gonna erase that.

Guys don't forget to buy recently created merchandise for the "suddenly unacceptable" thing! Good thing all this racist merchandise is still up for me to purchase!

This ride is bad! Just don't forget to buy stuff about it! That's good!

You're not wrong! I'm part Irish, to this day there's still some gritting of teeth when discussions of English history come up.

The issue here is that our race-based system was much more explicit, unfortunately; the European powers who colonized here put it in writing in a way that codified it that hadn't really been seen quite so clearly before. It's a big reason why there's often been a bit more of a class-based division within many western European societies, while the main point of cleavage in American society has largely been race, though the two are often intertwined in various ways.

But yes, we can't act like no other nation bears culpability today, either; one need only look at the freakout some are having in pockets of Europe due to the influx of, for example, Syrian refugees
