Splash Mountain Evacuated Today

I think you'd all be surpised at how many people get out of rides during the actual ride. I've seen someone get out of Universe of Enegry with her baby while it was moving. One of my friends has jumped out of two log flume rides too. She's scared of big drops and instead of being wise and staying off she always thinks she'll be fine and then get scared.

Um...does she also stick her fingers into light sockets? I mean, she probably knows she won't like to be shocked, too...

hi,
I have never posted on a site, so I hope I did this right.

A couple years ago, I was on SM and these kids in the log in front of us got scared when they got to the bottom of the big hill, so their mom just told them to get out. After the first one stood up, they had to stop the ride, and all four of them climbed out of the log and a CM came and took them out the exit.

My brothers and I just sat and watched in our log, wondering why anyone would think jumping out of a log is safer than the ride itself, especially when you are warned not to and what mother would tell them to get out.

Oh Well

Back in 1999, we were evacuated from TTA about 100 feet before the exit from Space Mountain. I would've thought it was cool, except I had to carry a sleeping 12-month-old down a tall, narrow metal ladder, as they had no other way to get us down. (Or, at least, no other way that they'd let us down.) :fork: Not the way to make guests feel safe. I was terrified that I'd drop him the entire way down. We were furious!

Also, if a CM was monitoring the ride and the man did infact die where you said he did then you wouldn't be able to see him on the monitors for very long. That is one of the darkest spots in the ride.

"Darkness" is no excuse for a lack of proper monitoring. Just look at TTA - the majority of their cameras are infrared.

Oh, I don't know the details of the "accident," I was just posing a question based on what someone else had said happened.

They've said on a Universal travel-channel type program that Steven Spielberg doesn't like high drops and that he exits his very own Jurassic Park River Adventure ride prior to the drop. Interesting stuff.

I think she was scared, but also just plain stupid. If she wouldn't have listened to me when I told her not to move we wouldn't have had to hit the E-stop.

What exactly happens when you push the Emergency Stop button?? Do all the lights come on? Does the water stop flowing? Does the mountain empty the water?

Well I'm not sure if this is related or not but...

Hulk lost power at IOA today around 3 pm, they made everyone leave the ride station and removed everyone from the trains. Maybe some power issues in Orlando??

Well my brother and I got to Epcot around 2:30, and we immediately ran over to Mission: Space as fast as we could so we could see it complete. We asked several CM's if they were going to do previews today. They all said maybe. Finally we saw one CM coming out of the Mission: Space gift shop and we got a yes from him. So, we started waiting at the Mission: Space doors hoping that he was right and they would do previews today. We were the first ones in line. Then a CM who works at SM came over to join us. He said to hold his spot so we did. He went around in the back of Mission: Space and Test Track and a few minutes later he came back saying I've never seen an evacuation of Test track that fast! And we we're like what happened? He said that there was a power surge.

At that time we didn't know how big the power glitch was. But I called my parents, who were at Universal, and they said Universal and IOA were down as well. It turned out it was all of Central Florida.

After that, the big guy with highlights (I'm saying this because if any of you guys ever meet him you will hate him soo much) and he comes out and tells us, "Mission: Space will officially open August 15th. We strongly recommend you come back another day or another time " . At that time the line for MS was backed all the way up to Test Track. After he said that he cut the line in half. We weren't budging though.

We continued to stay in our spots. And it paid off. It was about 3:00 and the highlights guy came out and said, “It would be best if we started walking away from Mission: Space.” And of course we thought he meant that they weren't going to have previews today. Then he added, “so I can open up the gates.” I was so happy!!!

We walked inside and I got the electronic card for the wait time. I gave it to the person inside and then we continued until we reached the four centrifuges. We waited there for a good 25 minutes. Until they said over the intercom that Mission: Space needs some more time to repair because of the power glitch. I was mad! I got to see Bob Zalk though. I was going to call him over and get his autograph but it looked like he was busy working on the ride. Sue had to leave early to catch a flight back home to California though. So I didn't get to see her.

Anyways, they escorted us around centrifuge 1 to the exit. We ran through the post show and got back in line outside again hoping that they would try to open it again. All we heard from the ISTC crew was that they were sure if it was going to reopen. ~~~

It was now around 6:00 and they opened the gates again. This time we got to ride it, but we weren't the first ones on -- the second one.

I have to say that this was well worth it waiting in line for close to 3 hours in the hot Florida sun.

Too much typing......so I'm going to end it by saying, "If I would have to wait in line for another 3 hours, I would defiantly do it!" GREAT RIDE!! Too bad I didn't get to thank Bob and Sue.

I forgot to add that I overheard one of the "big dady's" who works at Mission: Space that the Travel Channel/Discovery Channel had been there a few weeks ago to film it so keep your eyes peeled on the Travel Channel. And we got to ride Mission 4 times!

I dont think they can actually be accused of changing the date really, because they didn't give a set date. :)
