as far as the Space Mountain thing, it was all over the news when I was down there so I Am pretty certain it wasnt a rumor. And as far as keeping people from being stupid, NO ONE has come up with an answer for that!!!!

There should be an %ole test upon entering the park. If you're an $ole, Goofey kicks your and throws you out of the park. They could call it the Magical New York Entry Test :D

I have an idea. We all go to the parks in big plastic bubbles that will protect us in the event of accident or impending stupidity.

No, No wait I know we can expand that to the whole world and we can the all live in happyness and be assured that nothing can ever harm us.

Seriously, I think if some one is stupid enough to do something they know is not to smart and have been warned not to do then they deserve what they get. I always say its the littlest thing that costs you the most.

As for kids getting hurt, one time on Pirates I say this guy sitting infront us my wife and my self letting this beautiful little girl that was about 5 years old walk back and forth across the boat. They were the only ones in the row. My wife and I were beside our selves. She would go to the edge and kind of lean out and just before we got to the hill down the pirate ship scene I could not take it any more and knew if I did not tell this IDIOT to hold on to her she would of gone overboard. I told him about the hill and he half heartedly held on to her but as soon as we were down he let her do the same thing thgough out the rest of the ride. My wife and I could not believe how careless a person could be with a small child. (we have four) We spent the whole ride worring about her and did not get to enjoy one of our favorite rides. The upside for us was after we got off we went through again had the whole boat to our selves. the next two boats infront and behind us were empty and had a private show!

Maybe, just maybe, the refurbishment is for other reasons. After all, the article states "insiders who visit chat-rooms". Lets face it people, a lot of rumors hit chat rooms and forums like these, and never come to pass.

Well, it felt good to write that, but I agree, it's not looking good for Splash.

Whatever device they put in, will have to be mechanically locking, since there is no electricity to the boat. This rules out a secure lap belt (one that a passenger can't open). A refurb with OTSR may not hold up to all the moisture, since there is so much moisture and a racheting system being utilized (just guessing, my mechanical knowledge about such things ends with lego and spark plug changes). A lap bar sounds easiest and the least expense for Disney to install in current boats, without buying new boats.

There needs to be some type of waiver of liability printed on all tickets, which should say something to the effect that any person who purchases a ticket (and their surviving family members) releases WDW and all employees, entities, subsidiaries, blah blah blah, from any liability, if the guest is injured or killed as a result of not following the rules of rides (or words to that effect, you get the idea). I don't know if something like that would hold up in court, but it sure would solve a lot of headaches for WDW.

BTW, notice how we don't seem to have any attorneys who belong to the forum? At least none that have let it be known they're attorneys. Does this mean attorneys are afraid to be associated with having wholesome, clean, family fun? Makes one wonder...:animwink:

Good idea there No2!!! I think there is a limitation of liability waiver in place already. Unfortunately, that doesnt stop some people and it will never stop a Lawyer!! God forbid people should take a reasonable amount of accountability for their actions!!!

The whole reason behind the restraints is not only because of accidents, but because of rising insurance costs. Disney pays tons on insurance and has been trying to bring their figure down while developing a quality expierience.

But to those people with no common sense, you are still gonna get hurt if you believe that you can actually "fly" on Peter Pan or anything else. Don't be stupid. Yes, it's a magical place but don't get carried away! Watch your kids!

Installing lap bars on Splash mountain would not only be difficult, but in my opinion, uncomfortable. There is not enough room now for your legs and the seats are barely wide enough as it is. A simple plastic belt is all that's needed.

I think the problem with kids is that they can't see anything so they always want to stand up. A belt would do the trick. (No pun intended.)

Its another frustrating situation just like spaceship earth. They have to make changes to a ride which will make the ride worse because the world is full of stupid people!
I'm more concerned about when this is going to happen as SM is my favourite ride and I'm going soon. Any more news?

Yes! 99% of ALL amusement park & theme park injuries or deaths are caused by one thing:

RIDER STUPIDITY!

So instead of Disney putting up signs saying stay seated they should have put up signs that say Don't be Stupid Morons!!!

Exactly! Or before they give you your ticket, they administer a simple 5 question quiz with questions a 1st grader could get. If you fail it, you aren't allowed in!

Disney could post any warning and a lawyer could find a way to sue them for it. They are a major corporation with a lot of money and everyone wants it. Some people probably go to Disney just to get hurt and sue.

One would think these morons wouldn't be able to afford to get to Disney World in the first place...but, their stupidity is a reason for us still having the Electoral College...anyways, I hope they don't add lap bars to Splash Mountain!

On Spaceship Earth. Apparently they put up big screens showing safety messages on the intial 'dark' ascent.

And don't you think lapbars or seatbelts would ruin the look of SM? Part of the appeal is that it's always looked like the riders are travelling down in hollowed out logs.

Thanks I wasnt quite sure what they were talking about!! As far as the screens well I guess if people want to insist on being idiots, Disney has to do what it must to protect itself from being sued into oblivion!!! 49 more days until Disney and Port Orleans Riverside!!! WOO HOO!!!!!
P.S. I dont need the screens!! When I get ona ride I kinda know to stay put!!!!

And if Disney actually did this, there would never be any need for FastPass, because every attraction would be a walk-on!

People can do incredibly dumb things sometimes, but Disney (or any company) should not have to be responsible for protecting people from their own stupidity. Even in our lawsuit-happy society (ie, McDonald's coffee & pickles - I suppose the ice cream being too cold is next?) there must be better solutions. If a ride vehicle were to injure someone due to neglected maintenance, WDW would be responsible. But, if someone actually tries to get out of a moving ride vehicle, that's no one's fault but their own.

You can never anticipate every little thing someone might get hurt (or sue) over anyway. No matter how many gates, redesigned logs, or video warnings WDW installs, people will still find hundreds of ways to injure themselves.
