Supports a theory that the anticipated crowds for FLE (or Summer crowds for MK in general) have not materialized.

I don't think gas prices are going to help there cause either.[/quote]

Nor does the fact most everyone had a larger chunk of take-home pay taken away starting in January. I touched on both these issues back in January (too lazy to look up the post), but I'm beginning to think WDW guests run about 6 months behind the "real world." Spring Break 2013 trips had already been planned by then, Summer 2013 had not.

This. To some it may not seem like much, but to the rest of us, it took a bite.

I've come to the sad realization that there's about a 95% chance I'm not able to take a vacation next year to anywhere... Besides my backyard. Not exactly thrilled right now. Being at work isn't helping.

Saw LR for the second time last night, and it actually holds up even better on a second go. It still could lose a little weight, but I'm just baffled that the reviews and BO have been so bad. (I don't buy that the reviews are scaring THAT many people away.) Maybe it will find a second life on DVD.

So someone posted this blog, from a casual park goer, husband and wife, with 2 kids.. on their WDW vacation. these people aren't disney fans, just regular vacation goers.

"...Oh, and we watched the 1980's movie "Captain EO" with Michael Jackson. It was creepy. Mostly because this is clearly the forgotten park and you can tell no real effort or money has gone into making this park worthwhile for people to go to. You never hear anyone say, "Man- Epcot was a blast!!". You know why? Because it's not. It's a huge disappointment and at $371 or so for us to get in? Should have went to another park. Or Sea World. *sigh*..."

I find the entire post very telling of what I keep hearing from people about WDW, and the general sentiment of the product.

I tried reading that but after only a couple paragraphs my head started hurting and I gave up. I'm not sure what is worse, that Epcot is so off base from the general public or that some of the general public don't - and never will - "get it".

Sorry to break in with real news, but:
The block out dates at Magic Kingdom for July have been lifted, main entrance passes will be accepted starting tomorrow (Saturday the 13th)

Supports a theory that the anticipated crowds for FLE (or Summer crowds for MK in general) have not materialized.

Just Magic Kingdom, or all parks? Epcot has been an absolute ghost town.

The Epcot of today is living soely on nostalgia and food and beverage receipts. It needs more than one pavilion makeover every 5 years.

Very interesting. Currently, I would say DAK and DHS have the bigger problems, but I think Disney will be surprised when Epcot becomes more of a problem down the road once (or rather if) some of the problems in the other parks are addressed. World Showcase is very nice, but for a lot of "average vacation goers" as you aptly phrased it, WS isn't anything to write home about. It's a lovely place for adults but not necessarily for the kids. I know I only grew to appreciate it when I got older. And Future World is such a disaster. There aren't enough rides. Many of the attractions desperately need updates. The pavilions themselves aren't utilized to the fullest the spaces provide. I still can't believe how they've just let the Wonders of Life Pavilion sit for all those years. They should be putting in new attractions there. Life is a pretty broad subject... You can't tell me they can't come up with something great to put in there. If the redo of Soarin' and refurb of Imagination do come to pass as Spirit has reported, it's a definite start. But so much more needs done. And F&W can only prop up attendance numbers so much.

EDIT: Though reading that girl's blog, I will say, it kind of felt like she was actively looking for things to her off. Belle's dress bothered her? Really?

It's like the author had no idea what they were doing and did no research beforehand...or did the research and chose to ignore it so they can write a saucy blog.

There is some fairly entry-level stuff that almost makes me think this is all some elaborate joke. But then I see people like this down there all the time so...

Yeah. I do stand by what I said about Epcot. It does have its issues. But at the same time, I do appreciate and like the park for the things it does have to offer. And I know how to "do" the park, as does everyone else here. Would agree that it was obvious she did no planning or research beforehand. I mean, my God, she was buying a bottle (or two) of water for her family every time someone was thirsty? I know people do that, but what an avoidable waste of money. She reminds me of those people who do no research, go to Disney World and just end up doing MK because they moronically think that's all there is.

Exactly what I thought of Epcot, without wasting time on capt. Eo. Because mom saw it back in the 80s and wasn't impressed then, wasn't interested now. I don't like Michael Jackson at all.

Epcot was definitely the sore spot of my vacation. I won't be going back to that park for a long time.

Yes, they would have had a better time had they picked up an entertainment guide (assuming of course cutbacks left anything that they would have liked to see that day)........

But, I laughed through the whole thing. The family may have loved 'vintage' Future World (which in turn may have put them in a better frame of mind to enjoy World Showcase for what it is, or at least used to be).

I don't know which was worse, having to sit next to a hot smelly garbage can while eating or being fed Cockerell Fries .

If a family sees large, shuttered attractions, if they don't follow the parks, they might wonder if the place is about to be closed down and turned into a flea market.

And in order for them to afford the parks and their ammenities, they end up staying at a place that's very existence makes you wonder if the inspector in charge of making sure that motels meet basic human standards isn't on the take....

Sorry, but for the general public to "get it" there needs to be something there to get. The whole front of the park doesn't make any sense, it's as if the entire area was thrown together. It's disjointed to say the least. The world showcase is a glorified marketplace and bar with a little substance if you can battle the booze crowds together to it.

I'm really tired of hearing how people "just don't get it". No, we get it, it's a cash grab. Unless we can jump into a time machine and go back to the 80s, we won't "get it" the way you do, or want "us" to.

This seems truer of her MK blog. Although, realistically, even $18 is on the high side for a lunch buffet if your base line is Sweet Tomatoes or Golden Corral. And who doesn't know about Florida rain?

I do think her criticism of EPCOT is fairly dead on. Stale, dated, and largely in existence at this point to justify a giant food court. This from a kid whose favorite place on Earth--not just WDW--was EPCOT Center in 1983.

The larger point, however, this is probably a fairly typical guest. How is MyMagic Plus going to work with people who can't figure out everything in WS doesn't open until 11?
