Pacific Rim is quite possibly the best movie of the Summer. Will post more detailed thoughts in a bit.
My brother keeps trying to persuade me to go see this as part of MY birthday celebration this weekend as I get to pick the movie to go see with my family... Something about how he'll at least graciously pay for me to go to the movie he really wants to see, but not me. Such a wonderful brother I have, attempting to bribe me so subtly. ;)

Now me on the other hand.. I'm leaning towards a repeat viewing of The Lone Ranger or Despicable Me 2. So @thedreamfinder, it is now your job to convince me that my dear brother is actually right, and I should be seeing Pacific Rim. I look forward to your thoughts ;)

Spirited Thursday Musings: Telling cops they are fighting 'wars' everyday is a very scary thing for our society. ... Speaking of deep thoughts as they apply to the theme park business, the economy is NOT back to normal. Yes, the evil biased media may tell you so, but they are basing the health of it on Wall Street and how top banks and corporations are doing -- NOT AVERAGE PEOPLE -- the ones who visit O-Town theme parks. ... When water parks are coming close to outdrawing theme parks it isn't just the weather that is hot. ... I just want to be very clear on this point because many of our discussions are bleeding into each other. Imagination is being shut down to redo the entire pavilion, not simply to save on money. I also want to be clear that I've been told Figment will be a part of what replaces the fetid pile of excrement that is there now. No, no word on Dreamfinder. ... Originally, Cars was going to be the focus of the Studios Makeover, but very late in the game it became one of Star (Wars) instead. Monsters don't fit in at all. ... EPCOT will also be getting the new Soarin film in about three years and MK will debut its Wishes replacement and WDW will crow that it is putting money into all its FL parks. That is true, but with the needs so great it only will be a good start. ... Lone Ranger is still worlds better than Man of Steel. ...

Its not your fault.....no sense in killing the messenger....but in about 10 days we went from all out DHS redo to adding some Star Wars stuff. Ans as they say that is still in "flux" ....3 years for a new Sorin' movie?...three years?
So lets go with that, there is NO way they have any update of DHS ready by then....No Avatar sightings as of yet.....so to be clear in the next three years we get what? Mine coaster?

and a d23 announcement is still not looking good? i would think they will most likely announce it before sept 30 so it will seem crazy if they can't get their crap together and they end up announcing it like a week or so after d23. but i suppose we are kinda waiting on the board members??

I was planning on trying TLR tommorow, but since PR is coming out I decided that TLR is just going to have to do without my viewing. ( which If this mentality is not just mine could dent Ranger even more.

Pacific Rim looks like one of those bad direct to video mashup movies with better graphics! Transformers vs. Godzilla monsters! No thank you! And I couldn't believe the newest commercial I saw for it, stating that the film was "Star Wars for our generation"!!! Whatever that means...

I'd take a repeat viewing of DM2 or The Heat!

My mother was a CM and one of her many jobs was working at the All Star resorts. She was always aware of the occupancy rate for the hotels. She was low-mid level management. She would get occupancy rates such as 75%...80% ect. Sure these are not exact numbers for the parks but I would think there would be reasons to give mid level managers projective attendance figures so they could schedule staff. I don't think your everyday front line CM knows the numbers but I don't think its as secretive as some think. There is to much infrastructure that depends on numbers. What benefit would it be if only a few would know?

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense and is about in line with what I would have expected.

Somehow, the critics are like the howling dogs of Africa . Once they sense blood in the water, it's all over for whatever sacrificial lamb is before them. Even Pinnochio and Fantasia were panned by the experts when they were first released.

Pinocchio, Fantasia, and The Wizard of Oz received mostly solid reviews, yet tanked in the BO because the film industry was weak at the time (except for Gone with the Wind).

And are you comparing Lone Ranger to Fantasia?! ;)

Shame about no word on Dreamfinder, but you know what? This narrows down things a lot. Thank you for clarifying this.

This honestly excites me more than the DAK and DHS projects combined. Lord I hope they do this one right.

I am happy to hear about Figment being a part of what replaces the current version. I am also pleased about update to Soarin' for 2016. Having a redone Imagination Pavilion and an update to Soarin' does give Future World an improvement.

I do think more needs to be done to Future World, but Imagination Pavilion, and an update to Soarin' is a good start.

Well, I'm not denying that she had a reputation for being... Less than pleasant, or that her demands were often silly. BUT, I can't exactly blame the women for not wanting a more faithful adaption of her material. I love Mary Poppins, the music, the animation, the story, the lady herself, but even the characterization of Mary from the books was quite different from the movie. When it's your own book that had been trashed from your perspective, then I think we could talk more about how Walt was apparently practically perfect in every way in regards to movie, and Travers was apparently horrid beyond imagination. In your mind. I'd guess the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Again, this is from someone who does love the movie. But I think some of the things you wrote were a bit harsh on Travers. I would say the same thing if it were someone trashing Walt and saying only good about Travers.

And I can't blame her for wanting tapioca struck from the shopping list... Tapioca pudding is naaaaaaasty ;)

Well, I did lose my temper a bit, there, and I apologize for that. But some people here are assuming that Travers was this poor little author that mean old Walt ran roughshod over, and that is not true. She was impossible to deal with. Everyone at Disney who worked with her thought so. That's just the truth.

Thank you Magenta Panther, I do own that book along with a number of other books. I think most people on here, embrace how fallible, and how he was a man of his times. Even though he was a visionary.

But people want to "believe in Walt" they want to believe in someone who just wants to bring happiness to the world. That is the thesis of who Walt is to the general population, that is what people want to believe in.

Oh, I see. Well, you know, about that "bring happiness to the world stuff"...that really was a part of who he was, especially in his later years, after he built Disneyland. He genuinely wanted to make the world a better place; that's why he planned Epcot. But anyway, I did get a bit testy there, and I apologize.
