Well, lets try to get this thread back on track.
New column from the Accountantneer.

its a good read, but I have one slight problem...

Reportedly, the original Tower cost $140M in 1994. Using simple inflation makes that $212M in 2004. Going from $212M down to $115M seems reasonable, right? But is it? Was the $140M reasonable? Splash Mountain was $75M in 1989. Should the original Tower have cost almost two times as much five years later? We never knew, we just had to go with the numbers WDI gave us

is he really comparing what is essentially a flashy log flume with a technologically advanced drop tower? is that really a fair comparison?

...I wish he'd stay on topic and not wander off so much but hey, it's still a good read.

I wonder what kind of area The Incredibles would have got in DCA. Aside from the KUKA arm ...ride? what else would have been there. Can't wait for that coffeetable book to come out.

Starting to think I need a bigger coffee table...

The entrance for the ride was to be in Pacific Wharf, taking out the farm area and stretching into the Timon lot - essentially the same space used by Cars Land. I don't believe it was meant to be its own land, but that's just what I heard secondhand when it was being considered.

At the same time, to fix Sun Plaza, the plan was to extend Grizzly Peak's theming through Condor Flats and into the entrance plaza. My source at the time said the monorail bridge would have been a fallen redwood. So that's...different.

Yes. Youre comparing E ride vs a cloned E Ride.

There shouldnt have been any developmental costs for DL's ToT

There had to be at least some, the elimination of the final room and containing the entire ride in the drop shaft plus adding the 3rd shaft would be something. Tokyo and Paris are direct lifts from DL, with Tokyo having the Hightower overlay. Given WDIs hefty markups who knows what those small changes run.

ToT has crazy money in ride system and infrastructure...
Splash has tons of money in scale and AAs...

Do you really think Splash is 'just a log flume'?

Both were very expensive attractions - but for different reasons.

Listen, they gave us 3 distinct versions of beer brewed for the park. I'm not gonna blame them for making a drink everyone can enjoy to go along with them.

While Buzz is pretty delicious, it's not really "fun". It's just a cherry cola.

Waitaminute. I'm not going to let you tell me what my opinion should be.

If i want to vastly criticize them, I will. I criticized Disney just as harshly for New Fantasyland and "Le Four's Brew."

If you're happy with it, good for you. I'm not. Based on what i heard and all the hype here and elsewhere online, I expected more then a bathroom facade and a giant food court. They gave the impression that you would be able to buy comics at Android's dungeon (ala over in Marvel Island).

I expected more and better out of them then what I saw.

I wasn't even replying to you in that post. I don't care what your opinion is. I said I'm not going to fault them for offering an all inclusive drink.

As for the hype, and site that covers Universal had said all along Android's would just be a facade and that the interior of Fast Food Boulevard would be similar to the setup of IFFF save for the Moe's area. The press release did a poor job of conveying what Android's would be. I'll give you that.

The rest is either poor reporting by other sites or not paying attention to the known information.

Springfield was a 'rounding out' addition to USF. Kind of like tangled toliets.. but actually a step above. A good comparison may be Paradise Gardens at DCA... they took a weak part of the park, and made it something desirable and improved the revenue opportunity for the park.

No one would argue the new food service location in DCA is a reason to make a trip to DCA... but it is still a valuable addition to the park and will improve many people's visits vs what was there before. Same as Springfield.

The spinner ride will just be icing on the cake.. helping USF with their needs to offer more for the little kids.
