@WDW1974, I don't know how much you know on the subject but for the DHS makeover, Is a majority of it Star Wars??? or will there be other factors going into it? Just wondering because someone said they are still cutting budgets and what not!

Whats all the more ironic with this park hopping business is that down the road at that Universal place, Potter 2.0 is being designed very specifically with park hopping in mind. Uni wants people to have to pay for multi-day, multi-park passes, whereas WDW is trying to encourage us to be content with one park each day.

Somewhere buried in this thread is your answer.... Short version is that nothing has been decided or finalized yet. It is NOT green lit.

People park hop for two reasons:

1. They planned out something else to do later in the day, like a dining reservation.

2. They are out of things to do and there isn't a reason to stay longer in that park.

So Disney has decided to try their hand at social engineering rather than address the root issue? Let's force people to make reservations in that park to keep them there!

Brilliant! What could possibly go wrong?

thanks I did not know that! I didn't see anything in the thread but I could have EASILY missed it!

Just a tip: if you click on the number of posts of @WDW1974 in this little info box to the left of his posts you will be taken to a page showing his latest posts. From there you can then just read whatever he posted in this thread without going through a million pages. Works with every other member, too, of course.

You also get there if you click on a member's avatar or username (even in the general overview of threads in a board) you get their profile and there you can again click on their post count to go to that list.

Ok @WDW1974 - you basically state that WDPR knows what is occurring, that the guest pattens are changing, but yet they don't know how to respond. (Not directly quoting you obviously...)

Later you (basically) posted that they are going to build new things at WDW, but they don't really have direction or vision about what they are really doing or where they are really going with WDW. Kind of lacking the long term plan... Correct?

If that is the case shouldn't the blame really fall on Tom Staggs and his management team? Isn't it their job, as head of Parks and Resorts, to provide a vision and direction for the property? Or is the bigger issue in your opinion that they internally don't realize that they don't have a vision for where to take WDW?

Does that mean we should expect a vastly expanded Universal Orlando section(s) on Martin's Videos in the coming years? ;) Because we all know there ain't much happening at The World for the foreseeable future.

Universal is much more restrictive as to how much camera equipment you can bring into the parks as well as what you can bring on a ride.

Most of their rides are high intensity thrill rides that cannot be easily recorded. You cannot safely mount a camera on a rollercoaster with the equipment you can bring through the front gate. (And thats something you should not do without the appropriate liability insurance to begin with)

So I'm not sure what all there is to record at Universal. As for Disney, There's a lot of things we can do and revisit and update. IMO.

We rarely PH ourselves. With little kids, it's more trouble than it's worth. I see PHing as a bit of a racket. You waste at least an hour travel time minimum. But most people I know swear by PHing. I know very few people who spend a whole day at DAK. Even with the MYW tickets, I know people who would drop it if they couldn't PH.

Purely anecdotal obviously. I too would be interested to know the data. I can tell you if it wasn't for the MYW pricing structure, we'd be day guests at MK and skip DHS and DAK more often than not. There hasn't been a compelling reason to go to those parks in years other than the fact the extra days are cheap.
Personally, I always get the PH option unless I am going with first timers or my grandkids. I find that if I am by myself of with another experienced WDW tourer, I usually hop between all of them I might go to Epcot in the Morning and MK in the PM (or vice-verse) or to DHS or DAK for whatever time that takes me and then either Epcot or MK for the rest of the day. I never have been willing to pay multiple times the worth of a meal at a Disney sit down so that is never my motivation for PH'ers. My guess is if I go for 5 days, I will usually hop at least 4 of them. I always drive so I don't have to wait for buses or transfer so it takes very little time to hop. I do like the Monorail trip(s) between Epcot and MK. I try not to think about what would happen if it broke down halfway between the two, twenty feet in the air and no stairs. Like I said, I try not to think about that.:arghh:

The secret? Rent a car. Never rely on internal transport unless you want a slow, scenic journey.

Slow, yes, and if you're lucky enough to be able to see out the windows, then scenic too :-)

Have said it before, but it bears repeating...we will not go there again unless we either rent a car or drive from home. We did that last year, and had the best vacation, time wise, that we've had there, because we weren't waiting on Disney transport.

"He wanted to care, and he could not care. For he had gone away and he could never go back anymore. The gates were closed, the sun was down, and there was no beauty left but the grey beauty of steel that withstands all time. Even the grief he could have borne was left behind in the country of youth, of illusion, of the richness of life, where his winter dreams had flourished." (-F. Scott Fitzgerald, All the Sad Young Men) He was referring to the loss of innocence. I wish I was a child again when I enjoyed Disney and cared nothing for issues such as these. The loss of our innocence has enabled us to open our eyes to the tragedies befalling our beloved WDW. Forgive me for sounding so serious, it just hurts to see such a wonderful place being ran by a "lord of the flies-esque" group who have lost their way. As an adult, at least the booze helps when I visit!

We drive to WDW and have a car at our disposal because we aren't fans of the buses, but we still don't park hop. We usually are at the parks from rope drop until a fairly early dinner and then it's back to the resort for a swim and bedtime. We try to keep our DDs on their same bedtime schedule which makes for a much happier vacation for all concerned. Even with a car, it is still just too much of a hassle for us at this point in time.

I seems to me they are trying to make park hopping an unattractive option for a few of reasons. 1) To force guests to stay in what many consider half day parks which will help with capacity issues at MK and Epcot, 2) to force them to be on property and visiting Disney parks for at least 4+ days if they want to see and do it all, and 3) to reduce transportation costs. If people can spend a couple of hours at AK or DHS and then hop over to Epcot or MK, they may end up decide to fill up their vacation days at UOR or SW which is the last think TDO wants. I think this is flawed logic, but that is the only reasons I can come up with. Instead of giving people a REASON to stay, they are trying to make it as painful as possible to leave.

We park hop because we hit a park early in the morning - before the crowds and heat- then go back to the pool or waterpark. Then we shower, get ready for dinner, and hit another park after our meal ( unless we are already in a park ) and with the sun down.

When you have 95 degree weather and humidity, the last thing I want to do is stay at a park the entire day in the same clothes. I tend to go a bit commando on our WDW trips, but that borders on the Bataan death march.
