Just a quickee Friday lunchtime musing:

You can say a lot of things about what Disney doesn't do,but you can't say Disney doesn't enjoy exporting WDW strategy (no, don't look at that building falling apart, look at this swag bag we're giving you) for social media.

Hence, the just wrapping up two day 'What's New, What's Next' event at DLP. I have no idea when this was planned, but you can not beat the timing with the Save DLP petition making global headlines.

Again, they brought bloggers in (far fewer than what would happening FL to be fair) and announced nothing. They showed off hotel rooms they renovated as far back as 2011 and said they have plans to eventually do all the hotels, but have no timeframe. Mind you they are still working on the incredibly budget Hotel Santa Fe (they didn't go with a Breaking Bad overlay) when I was checking out the shoddy work they were doing there in May of LAST year.

No new attractions were announced. They showed art of new holiday meet and greets and got European fanbois hot and bothered by announcing Print on Demand was coming to Disney Village, so those Phantom manor posters will be a reality.

Joe Schott, the resort's No.2, did many one on ones and promised they were going to fix things that have been neglected (just not big ones like Frontierland's geysers) ...but it was largely an event about nothing.

I have more to say, but this keyboard is not being cooperative (yes, Iger people want to stream The Avenger on an iPhone, sure!) so that using, gotta get back to work ... Will finish my thoughts tonight.

Waiting patiently, my fine sir.

But really, tell us how you feel about bloggers. Don't hold back :)

Page 89 in the new Unofficial Guide 2014.

Something that I believe I haven't seen here before.

A suggestion that there won't just be an overall limit to the FP(-) you can get, but within that there is a limit to how many 'headliners' (aka the rides that you really need it for) you will have made available to you.

And if you are an off-siter, that number will be *zero*.

If true, I wonder how many locals who are AP'ers who call themselves fans of the Mouse Arrest bands because '60 days out we can get a reservation for TSMM' will continue to be fans...

I have news concerning a new technology Apple just starting deploying that could be very scary if the coders of NextGen take advantage of it. It's called iBeacan and what it does is basically provide proximity information for objects nearby. It's kind of like GPS but works in doors and is accurate within millimeters. Here's an example of a baseball stadium that's planning on using it:

Now, imagine if iBeacan technology was added to NextGen projects... The potential is really bizarrely scarry if you really think about it...

considering i'm a mets fan and am at citi field roughly 15-20 times a year, i'm sure i'll have plenty of opportunity to see this in action. it's so fundamentally-flawed, even for a baseball stadium. the experience should be the game. to me, MLB's application doesn't read as anything more than another way to sell me a jersey (or concession, etc.)

you're right, peter. it's very scary...but most people don't think about it.

I am glad they informed today of more necessary refurbishments across the resort but I am looking forward to this event coming up next month.

"Dear Shareholders Club Member,

We are pleased to invite you to a Shareholders Club conference that will present you Villages Nature, the new sustainable vacation destination concept developed, in partnership with the Pierre & Vacances - Center Parcs Group, and that will take place on Tuesday, October 1st, 2013 at Disney's Hotel New York® Convention Center at Disneyland® Paris."

This was originally announced a few years ago but things have been pretty silent on it after the initial buzz.

Why do you think Bluetooth was chosen for the MouseArrest band, It's because you can have a self organizing mesh network which means that ALL items in proximity to the root mesh node will be enumerated as part of the network, Howintheh--- else is the Mouse going to do tracking.

The iBeacon device interaction is iOS specific. Those folks with an Android or Windows phone are not going to have this feature (at least for a while). With that being said, it adds another layer in the NextGen "penetration" of your pocket if it's deployed or added to the new "data net". Precise positioning would seem to appeal to Disney as much as every other element of this "expansive technological upgrade".

Bluetooth expansion has been driven primarily by the "wireless" craze in all consumer electronics. It's strange to imagine now that the original application for this tech was as an appliance diagnostics tool. Bluetooth 4.0 will give way to future revisions making low-power data transfer even more appealing to any and every seller of consumer products. Of course, the "evil" among us will look to exploit this tech.

Edit: This "could" make advertised line waits more precise too....

In theory, this can already be done with the magic bands.

Although, it certainly is a possibility that Offsiters might be excluded I think it would be one godawful mistake to do so. Places like Disney are word of mouth type businesses. They are still running on the good feelings that people put out to anyone that will listen. Excluding a group as large as offsite visitors would be beyond foolish. Just a quick check on one website, shows that they represent 493 hotels in the WDW area and that's just those that work with Expedia. They are there for the whole area but 0 existed previous to WDW. You cannot ignore a group that big and expect good things to happen. I don't know exactly how they plan to include those of us that don't pay the massive price to stay on site, but if they don't there will be a whole lot of unhappy people going home and telling everyone they know how much they are trying to force onsite stays. Even Universal has a system that allows others to get at least a little of the benefit. I wouldn't be surprised to see a version of the same thing at WDW. It will still cause me to not return, but it will at least not unconditionally excluded.

I liked Crazy Ones -- it looks like half the fun will be watching Sarah try and hold it together: there was one shot last night where it looked like she was really straining.
