Heading for the great escape.
I dont see the point of bloggers and their musings, its a bit like the opinion column in a newspaper (RIP) after all in the real world the only opinion of note is my own and for some reason I usually find it to be right.
Who cares if some people are dining in the trough, if its good enough for the political masters why shouldnt the little man get in on the action. And who are people to comment on the ease at which people are willing to sell their souls, they dont know they may need the money to fund a drug habit or to pay for hookers or beer, or to have law enforcement officers look the other way for indiscretions of a family member. Maybe they just like free stuff but dont want to nick it.

No, you misunderstand my point. My issue is with people demanding to be treated as they are a professional journalist when they freely admit they are not.

I would also make the case that a news personality is not a professional journalist either but thats a different conversation for another day.
Just for clarification, I wrote that at around 4am. When I wrote personality I was thinking journalist, some of which are personalities as well. Middle of the night brain cramp.

No, Jeff sold his own home videos, not copyrighted Disney owned property.

There still may be an IP problem here as I would not be surprised if Disney reserves the commercial reproduction rights for photos/video's taken at Disney, I sell a fair amount of my photos but sell NONE taken at disney just to make sure I don't run afoul of Disney's IP department even if it's an abstract shot.

If you recall all the sports leagues copyright all images taken at their events.

Could "anyone" try to get into this "meet-up".....was it for any reader of the Disney Parks Blog, or was it only open to the social media types?
No problem...all you have to do is be fat and dress like you just came in from a trailer park according to our insiders.:grumpy:

It's not sketchy... it's called building 'brand advocates'. This is not unique to Disney.. Do you think people leak news to journalists purely based on who they think are really swell guys/gals?

Information is power... and companies can divy it out to promote their own interests as well.
You mean sorta like how EVERYONE knew what Apple was going to announce at their presentation yesterday before it was announced?

Question of the day: What's worse? Obsessed Disney bloggers, or people who obsess over obsessed Disney bloggers?

Always the bloggers.. The phrase "mommy blogger" makes my skin crawl. "Disney blogger". Just makes me think someone is so inside that they're out of touch with what is going on.

These people are frequently given much more than leaks, inluding media access and "goodies" for barely qualifying as "journalists". You can give somebody press photos and info without wining and dining them for free. The special treatment is too much for so little.
They tow the company line, and give you great publicity to thousands and thousands of people. They do you're work for you. You invite them to a dinner at California Grill.

Cheaper than a TV commercial.

Did the bloggers ever say they were journalists?

Sounds like some of you have some real jealousy going on. Why don't you make a YouTube channel holding Disney's feet to the fire, routinely denying any freebies and marching down Main Street with your ticker tape parade?

For all the allegations against Ricky not being a journalist, I honestly have to ask, did you genuinely think he was one?

The reason he gets perks and invites is he has a lot of viewers and listeners to his hobbyist enthusiast site. So start your own and maybe you will get perks too and maybe even called a by the forum guru of the day.
Everyone wins.

Trouble is BECAUSE he has access, Joe potential visitor ASSUMES he is a journalist and is reporting the unvarnished Disney experience and then people are unhappy because the reality did not match his glowing words,

Now there is NOTHING wrong with being a unpaid PR wire site for Disney it's just that you need to make it plain that that's what you are doing.

As for commentators Loathe him or love him Rush Limbaugh always states that he is a ENTERTAINER and talks about things that interest HIM and his opinions ARE biased. To his credit makes no pretensions of being a journalist as do many of the political commentators who PRETEND to be journalsits.

Winner? The posters who are obsessed with Spirit :D

The differnce is, this just happened. It's a relevant topic. Someone who was there is sharing in the concern. It's not that big of a deal to me. But it is an interesting topic as I had no idea the blogging is as big as it is.

I don't know...I think I go with the people who obsess over the obsessed Disney bloggers. They get so worked up over something that only affects them because they allow it to affect them. Weird.

What was the bad advice and how much money did you lose? Just curious.

Should Ricky have a disclaimer played in front of all his videos and podcasts that say everything he says is opinion and he has been given free things? To me insidethemagic is a podcast you listen to if you're riding on the train and interested in Ricky's opinions or ride videos. It's a fun diversion.

And that's about it.

Yes he SHOULD have a disclaimer or make the transition to journalism and not take the freebies.

One other point that I wanted to express is this. Many have mentioned that Disney actually hates them and thinks that as a force they are worthless. Ask yourself this question, if they have NO value to Disney can you tell me why Disney would spend that much to make them happy? Doesn't make any sense does it, especially considering how cheap Disney Co. has become. Why would they throw away those dollars for something that they think has no use at all? Answer: They wouldn't. So like it or not they are considered a useful part of marketing expense. A lot here might not want to admit that this positive approach leads to Marketing gratitude, but I think they are wrong. Disney also, because of that, has no reason to hate them. That crazy lady in the video did not hit me as making fun of them, more joking around with them. These people are very conscience of what "others" think of them and they are in effect laughing at that group. The message is..."you may think that what we do is mental...but look where we are tonight. Where did you say you were again? On line, perhaps, talking about how stupid we are?"

It is interesting, the dynamic shift from traditional media to new age media (notice the people involved more in traditional media are the ones most worked up, because their industry is dying).

Do you think that it's wrong that Apple employs a similar tactic? That's why everyone in the tech and business world was abuzz about their revel yesterday. Same thing, different company.

Who would you say is "obsessed" about Disney bloggers? Some people here might have strong opinions about this, but an obsession is certainly something else?

Please...even to attempt to compare a Disney blogger to Rush Limbaugh is incredible. Disney bloggers are people who enjoy an activity. Like people who write blogs about sailing, hiking, mountain climbing, etc. I'm an old guy. Someone that grew up and functioned 90% of my career in the time before the computer and internet explosion. Yet I still know what a blogger does and always have. I have never considered them journalists of any kind. They are people with a hobby and are very happy to share information that they might have been privy too out of excitement not out of what the returns are. Rush Limbaugh is a hate filled, loudmouthed idiot with no sense of shame or discretion. People not being aware that he is an "entertainer" is a dangerous thing for many people that feel that he is knowledgeable mostly because he says what he thinks they want to hear. If someone takes a blogger at their word the worst thing that happens is that they go to a park excited and looking forward to the experience. I, personally, cannot find to much wrong with that.
